Discussion: Battlefield 2142 / Battlefield 2142 - General Discussion - Games way to quick? - While I'm no stranger to the BF series of games, I just started playing 2142.
While I'm no stranger to the BF series of games, I just started playing 2142. I play on the TG servers knowing that teamwork is essential and since I have been playing PoE on the TG servers for quite some time, I know that my gaming experience will be enhanced.
One thing that I've noticed, in comparison to PoE, is that the games on 2142 are over rather quickly. I know I am just starting out, but it seems like I can't get anything going in terms of learning the maps, using all the gagets (unlocks), and setting up strategic tactics simply because the games are over sometimes in 15 or 20 minutes!
I'm not sure if its the game itself or perhaps its just the nature of the 2142 game, but in PoE, single battles can sometimes last a good 45 mins to over an hour! Now that's a battle! I must admit, the pure firepower in 2142 surpasses many games, so perhaps that could be a factor.
Is it always like this and are there any stats showing the average amount of how long a games last in 2142? Also, has ever been any thought in either prolonging the time limit or increasing the bleed count or does that not make sense in 2142?
Our server is ranked so we are forced to run the default ticket ratio of 100%. Your used to poe2 where we run 200% ratio and enjoy the longer battles that have a more dynamic tug of war feel.
If you really miss that feel I'd look into the Titan server.(when its active)
2142 is a faster paced game. Faster than BF2 and much faster than PR and POE. 15-20 minutes per match is about average. Though I have seen some last only a minute or two while others I have see go on for well over an hour. Titan Maps general last longer, as do some "stand off" rounds (like when EU holds toll station on Camp Gib). For the most part, however, rounds do not last longer than 20-25 minutes.
Part of the issue is that on the TG server we often play the 32 player versions of some maps which means only 200 tickets each team. Add to this that our server is almost always full, and 46 people on a map meant for 32 leads to some great firefights, but shorter rounds. There are some maps, such as Camp G. and Cerbere landing where you can add 100 tickets For 300 total without effecting the map. Most maps however, when you play the 64 player version are much larger and arguably less fun. Still in order to run a ranked server. You cannot adjust the ticket ratio. So 16 player maps get 100 tickets, 32 player maps get 200 and 64 player maps get 300.
If you want the rounds to last longer, keep up the revives. Every death you prevent is one more ticket before the match is over.
The game is very fast paced and requires an increased situation awareness. The pace itself leads to different tactics and over time you will learn these and develop your own. This is, even on the bigger maps, a large version of close quarters combat and everything changes quickly. A few others have come from PoE and said the same thing, the problem is that once you get used to 2142, going back is difficult. I have played most of the BF series and love 2142 the best, it is now the only one I pay. You will be challenged and have lots of fun. Team up with some of the seasoned SL's and you will learn that there are many strats and they constantly change.

Ain't that the truth....they also have a habit of changing as your executing them! If you have X-fire add "coloniell' to your list and I'll be happy to show you around and be your SL!

Hey Fubar, you do not have to pay every time you play BF2142!
You already did your payment ... for the DVD ...
Grep,
I had and still have the same conserns regarding the pace of BF2142.
I like a more slowpace approach, but as the others said above, this is a fast paced game by nature.
We had organized a campaign during the past (look for "Shockwave"), that we have altered the ticked value to 400. In that way, you can enjoy some long battles as you said you like it.
Titan is also an alternative for longer batles and we have a Titan server.
Stick at the forums and play on our servers, make some friends here, and then you can organize (I can help you, feel free to contact me about) a scrim or campaign with more tickets or whatever crazy idea you have.

I don't have x-fire, but I can download it... sure.. thanks for the offer, I appreciate it.
And thanks for all the replies as well, good info for sure. I do feel I am getting used to it though, had my best round(s) last night and earned a medal or two.. slowly, but having fun doing so. Seems like I still gotta find a class specialty though. I play Medic alot in PoE2 and now Assault in 2142. Unlocks will be huge to keep pace with everyone as well.

As such, there are a number of tactics that just plain "don't work" and while the idea of Formations and whatnot is good and has it's applicability in PoE and PR (and it's associated realism), the pace with which you can cover ground in the game... ESPECIALLY with the smaller maps... simply doesn't allow for that sort of thing. In addition to that, there are only 4 classes with a couple of different loadouts for each, some of which contain items that see infrequent practical use (like the Support Shield).

I would recommend playing assault lines in northern strike, in this game type the attacking force has to cap all the flags before they can cap the UCB and those battles can go on for quite some time.
As Mantis explained it, ticket count is not as high as it can be since its a ranked server and so the ticket count is set depending on the map.
The pace does also have an effect on the length of the game too, because people are much less careful than in the slower-paced BFx. This leads to more deaths and quicker loss of tickets, and therefore a quicker end to the round.
In any case, 20 minutes seems a decent enough time to have an enjoyable round.
I can guarantee that almost every single round on TG ends within 10-15 minutes. I had to go abroad for the CO Gold. It needs over 20 minutes in a round and it just wasn't happening on TG.
well..coming back to 2142 after a couple years of playing PR (only on TG ), it seems WAY faster than i am used to. i have only played a coulpe rounds on the TG server (i had a crashing issue last night) but the rounds i had went much quicker (and faster) than i expected. it will be a while until i feel comfortable SL-ing, as it seems that decisions need to be made far quicker than i am used to, (it doesn't help that i am starting over at private either...got only 2 unlocks so far) and the rounds are over sooner (some PR games can go on for hours!). i do like the fast paced feel, i just need to get comfotable with it all again...i need to remember that after a revive from a medic i am ready to go...i dont need to wait to finish being healed.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
Things usually unfold faster than...
