    Re: SL to SL voip channels = AWESOMENESS

    Have you seen these channels ?

    They are for SL-SL comms during game

    original thread

    ==================================================
    Setting up Teamspeak binds for SL-SL TS comms
    ==================================================

    Click settings / key settings

    Click add
    Select a combination of keys eg Ctrl+Shift+B as below
    Select switch to + channel + Battlefield 2142
    Click ok

    Then create key combinations for the two subchannels for Team1 + Team 2
    IT IS IMPORTANT TO CREATE ALL THREE CHANNELS
    The way TS works is you have to join the channel 'Battlefield2142',
    before you can switch to the subchannel 'team 1' or 'team 2'

    ==================================================
    Set 'Push to talk' button
    ==================================================

    Click settings / sound input-output settings

    Click set and choose a key that is not next to any regular gaming key

    ==================================================
    Reducing the automated messages from TS
    ==================================================

    Click settings /options

    Go through all the sound effects and 'clear' them all except 'switched channel' (shown in pic)

    Oh man that was sooo great! I had so much fun!

    I especially liked the moment when Zio was like: "oh wow well done! There is only command left!" and still having aprox. 298 tickets on our side

    The SL-SL-Communication can really change everything. Especially if all SLs are in the channel. We had (I believe) 3 or 4 rounds that way. And it totally rocked.

    Quickest way to forward infromation to the other squads and get the team focues. Awesome work and great fun

    Why is it that we only see this once in a while? I think as squad leaders should always use this resource, it adds another whole dynamic to the game!

    I'm going to let this stay here for a bit and then move it to FAQs. Good write up.

    Question, what was the ticket count at the end of those 3-4 rounds? Blowout victories, I assume?

    SL-SL voip communication is great, but only when both sides are using it. Doc just had to make a thread reminding us of teamstacking because our games can get pretty one-sided. Do we really want to be promoting another way to make games even MORE one-sided? =(

    Finally, before someone brings it in as a rebuttal to my comment. How often are there enough SLs on both sides of a game that are on TS to make use of SL-SL communication on both teams? And on top of that, if one of the responses to this is "well both sides should just do it", then I'd like to say that's about as ridiculous as saying teamstacking can be fixed by just magically becoming exponentially better than the round before.

    I love the idea for competitive play, and scrims (same thing?) But as for on our home *public* server? ..... =\

    I can totally understand that but there was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG discussion about that topic already and now the counter-question.. who is stopping the other team by using it?
    We even said on the loading screen of the server that we use teamspeak during rounds. It is in fact a great advantaged but it´s like not using your rockets against an enemy assault who chose to take the herzog... He could have made a better choice.

    I would suggest that the loading screen could make it more clear that TeamSpeak is used to co-ordinate squads. That is not a conclusion that I would jump to upon seeing 'we use teamspeak' listed on the opening screen.

    But yeah, squad-to-squad communication with TS makes a huge difference. And let's not forget that having the commander in there is a nice idea too.

    "if one of the responses to this is 'well both sides should just do it', I'd like to say that's about as ridiculous as saying teamstacking can be fixed by just magically becoming exponentially better than the round before." =(

    I remember that discussion, I was against it's use on our public servers then, my opinion on it hasn't changed since. Unfortunately, there's not enough room on the welcome screen to say "We use teamspeak during rounds for SL to SL communication." Any random person joining the game who doesn't visit our oftens regularly is probably going to think "o, they have a TS server, that's nice" and not think anymore about it.

    Also the alt+tab crash still effects many people, including me. If I forget to load TS before I join TG servers, I'm not going to disconnect just to load up TS. Usually by the time someone sees the welcome screen, they're past the point where the alt+tab crash is too much of a hassle to bother loading TS.

    I'd just like to reiterate a quote from our primer:

    2) Create an environment where there is mutual respect for your fellow gamers and where all members would be working together to advance the enjoyment of their hobby.

    If one's idea of "environment where there is mutual respect for your fellow gamers and where all members would be working together to advance the enjoyment of their hobby." includes an environment in which you do whatever it takes to win including using a 3rd party program to bypass a limitation of the game to give your team an advantage that the other team most likely can't use... "fellow gamers" includes the pubbies that join our server, not just the regulars that visit our forums and know about this.

    Unless I'm participating in some form of competition play, I won't be using this. If the previous discussion on this is any indication of how this will go, then this may be a one man stand against this, but I'm ok with that.

    Negative analysis aside. I think that in theory, the idea of SL-SL communication has potential to be great and offer an entirely new level of gameplay. I can imagine in large-scale competition play having SLs able to hear each other, would speed communication up. In that aspect though, you might as well just have each team entirely in its own channel. If we're going to remove the SL<->CO<->SL voip, why not remove the SM<->SL<->CO voip while we're at it. Have SL<->SM for squad stuff, and use in-game CO<->SL for giving orders to specific squads that others don't need to hear. But otherwise having a way to go from CO straight to all the SMs would remove the need for SLs to relay orders. On a team of SMs who are capable of SLing, having the CO being able to talk to everyone will drastically increase team-wide reaction time.

    And for a potential contribution. Having entire teams in their own channels would make this idea alot better. For starters, most people on TS should be fairly evenly split between the teams, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem. The logic behind using "Team1" "Team2" instead of "EU" and "PAC" was that you could stay in the channel, which means those using the channels aren't expected to go to the lobby between rounds. So seeing as autobalance is off, and people aren't going to be changing teams often, why not have teams in their own channels?

    You are comparing apples and pears here mate.
    Do i have the option to push a button and become magically a far better player or lower my ping or whatever? ( without thinking of hax ) no i don´t. Do i have the option to push a button and get on the TS channels? Yes i have.
    And by the fact 90 % of the regular SLs of the server are either TG or known player who are on TS as well.
    Seriously man.. this is ot the dark side. We don´t want to shot Daleraan or rule the entire universe. But we still have cookies.
    Anyway this is also a good way to avoid the disadvantage of a non-talking and non-order-giving-dump commander... We all know these rounds where you have some 1337 COs who are just sitting back and mute there micro and don´t even give out orders.
