Mercenary90, infantry combat skills please.
Interesting discussion, methinks. He was told that he should not kill, and he did not kill, until he got into the Army. Then he was told to kill, and he killed.

Re: Player Critiques
I do this sometimes as well, but at the time, it looked like a good idea, then you get there and see a horde of death, and so change your mind knowing this is going to save tickets. Thats fine! Afterall the 1 thing I hate most as an SM is being sent into a death trap. And think as well that you start a map with a plan, and every SL has the same plan, so you decide to change your initial plan and do something else, but then you see another hole not covered by anyone, and you cover that.. Changing plans for me works better than constantly doing the same thing and failing. I say keep changing your mind depending on what you feel is right, and we should follow. If we don't like your changing ways, then we can go start another squad. Keep up the good work! (Should this be private? Oh well..)

Re: Player Critiques
I would like SL, gunship, and general attitude in games to be critiqued please. I think I come across quite abrasive over voip but I don't mean to be. Not sure I can do much to address that specifically though.

Re: Player Critiques
xD PM that's fine, I don't mind it being public for me. The complaint came in when we defending Toll Station and there was a break through, so I had my squad start heading to Ruins. However, similar to the situation in LogicalHarm's IDS thread I saw only 2 contacts on the minimap so I told my squad to head back to Toll, then I noticed alot more dots so I told us to head back to Ruins, but then a full friendly squad had spawned on the flag so I told us to head back to Toll, go figure, that squad got wiped so I told us to head back to Ruins, only to see that we had lost the flag and 2 more enemy squads had spawned in so I told us to stay at Central Camp... This all happened within about 30-45 seconds, and my SMs had some rather nasty comments at what appeared to be indecisiveness :P
Hmm, I'm wondering, for the purposes of this thread. Would those that want to be critiqued prefer it kept private, or would a public critique suit you better? Catman brings up a good point that our inboxes could get full, and I've noticed that usually in threads with somewhat structured freeform replies, one person comes up with a format and everyone else copies that format. Plus maybe if we see other critiques we'll think of other things that could be a problem? I don't know, you tell me, should we keep this private or public?
edit: Also, it seems I can't edit the first post anymore... Let's find an organized way of handling this, and I'll make a new thread that doesn't need the first post edited

Re: Player Critiques
Some might like it here, but I just hope they would be constructive and not a public call-out against someone.

Re: Player Critiques
i think a really good way are the "learn TG" squads which were made at the last time. i really appreciate that. maybe that's a good place to bring up some critique, but it's more for new players i guess. imo the best place for some critique is in-game. for example, someone want to have some critique for his/her SLing, than just make a date, where some people join his/her squad for a couple rounds and after that they give him/her some tips or says what he/she would has done different.

Re: Player Critiques
I have always been a fan of mentoring, 1 on 1. Though I have never been shy of any type criticism, even the simplest kind can lead one to reflect on oneself and benefit, it doesn't necessitate a better understanding thus a better skill set. The criticized individual has to invest themselves into reviewing the comment(s) objectively and the chance of mis-interpretation is always strong. Through mentoring, it is real time, the mentor is actively participating in improving the other's ability to insert your whatever your fancy here.

Re: Player Critiques
It's only possible to edit posts a certain amount of time after it's been posted. Not sure exactly how much this is, seems roughly 12-24 hours.
The forum moderators can edit posts however for as long as they need to afterwards, so if you would like to get in touch with an admin to see if they could start a thread where they could continually add people to the list that might be handy. Alternatively you could make it like the Gentleman's Agreement and have people signing it to confirm they'd like to be critiqued, this way they can also specify how they would like to be critiqued. Bump it very month or so for the newcomers and it looks like you'll be onto something good.
About public or private, I think Visitor messages might be the way to go. It's kind of an in between system, and allows for good feedback between 2 people without derailing an entire thread on a discussion between 2 people.Anger is a gift - Malcolm X

Re: Player Critiques
Sharingan, great ideas, the visitor message in our profiles is perfect. I want to avoid needing admin maintenance because being a forum admin somewhere else, I know how much of a pain that can be. Signing up for critiques is an excellent idea! Let's see if any other good ideas come up (maybe suggestions on some kind of structure for the critique?) then I'll make a new thread for the new setup. =)

Re: Player Critiques
Ya, but that requires extra maintenance :3. I'm looking for a low-maintenance, self-sustainable system we can use that requires minimal effort for all parties involved. I'd prefer not needing a post edited by myself, or an admin, as well as not having to clear out inboxes. Having people use the visitor message part of the profile is perfect, as it gives a semi-public place for a critique to be placed, that doesn't need administration, and allows for a conversation between the players involved without disturbing everyone else, while still allowing others to check it out and agree/disagree. Pretty much hit the nail dead on, for what I originally was looking for. =)
