Yet again, our poor Titan server lies empty. This is a friendly reminder that TG Conquest will always be there, like a dependable friend. Let us not forget our spastic yet always exciting friend, the Titan server. Aye, seed it, so that explosive fruits of reactor core goodness may grow and shed their shields so that we may partake of the juicy explosive flavor within.
Ever since it switched to that Northern Strike map a few weeks ago, I haven't been able to seed, and I'm guessing other people might not be able to either.
I don't know how feasible it would be, but a line like "Be sure to check out our Titan server!" in the scrolling rules on Conquest might help to draw more visitors.

"Why are we using potatoes instead of real grenades?"

I haven't even tried to seed titan because it seemed that Conquest was kind of weak during primetime for a couple of weeks now. Many nights I came in to find 30 players or so in there, so I helped seed it because that is the "bread and butter" of TG's 2142 community. On the other hand I also bumped into TG people on different occasions on other Titan servers when I went in to get my Titan fix, so there is an interest in Titan but it seems that noone has been taking the time to seed, myself included. In my case lately I have been encoding a lot of HD video with my old rig so between work and editing and preparing the video for the encodes, not to mention the encodes themselves any time I have to play I really want to play, not sit in an empty server and hope that someone notices.
The server did pretty well on a few occasions already and from what I observed I think it's TGers who are killing their own server. On more than one occasion I saw mass disconnects, which were due to someone saying in TS or in game "let's go to another server". Of course, they're killing their own server in the process, but they don't seem to think of that or care. One time they pulled that stunt just as the server went ranked. These are very selfish and dumb people who probably expect a bunch of pubbies to seed their server for them or don't really care. Yes I left as well because it felt like they took a big dump on all my work to seed the server and I was running out of time to play.
I'll try to jump in tonight but I'm not done with the video yet so I can't make any promises. If there's anyone in there I'll join you. I always check.
Because the people that demand titan donīt put in the hard work of seeding it more than once a week
Are you talking to me?
Well, I did my part last week...
OK, I will try to seed the Titan server tonight! (Euro timezone).
"All wars are fought for money" (Socrates, 470-399 BC) "Only the dead have seen the end of the war" (Plato, 427-347 BC) "We make war that we may live in peace" (Aristotle, 384-322 BC)
I can usually only take 2-3 rounds before I get totally worm out. There really is no map specific tactic like on Infantry Conquest where every flag has itīs own little strat.
This might be a problem specific to pubs, but I just get bored because noone is even attacking the titan, opting instead to: a.) steal a gunship and fly it for approximately 3.5 seconds before bailing out and wasting the vehicle, b.) wait for the silos to destroy the titan.
I think it'd be lots of fun on TG server where there's coordinated offense/defense.

Not even in the face of Armageddon. Never compromise.
Each silo has it's own strategies to assault it if it's defended, just like flags in Conquest. There are three major differences between Titan and Conquest that I see. First off, the Titan, obviously, second, the lack of a ticket count. With the obvious two out of the way, the last major difference is what I believe to be the reason that not everybody likes Titan as much as Conquest. In Conquest, your tactics are on the micro level. Little things placing an APM in the right spot, or a correctly placed sentry gun can make the world of a difference. In Titan, your tactics have to be on the macro level. You don't worry about the micro-management of your assault/defense, because you're wasting your time if you do. Because of the many different lines of assault that the enemy can take to attack any silo, you can't defend silos the same way you can defend flags on Conquest, and for the same reason, assaulting silos is different than assaulting flags.
People tend to stick with what's comfortable for them, and that's entirely understandable. When you've developed the mindset to play Conquest mode effectively, like everybody here already has. Trying to apply that same mindset to Titan is not only difficult, but saps the fun out of it. By mindset, I do not mean the goals TG Primer, I mean the intricacies of assaulting a flag, the minor details that we've all learned to pay attention to. Assaulting/defending a Titan silo with the mindset that it's just a Conquest flag will get you rolled over. There are very few silos that can be successfully defended using a Conquest flag style defense, and because the style of defense that we're all accustomed to fails so hard, we start to not have fun playing since we're facing a brick wall.
The biggest hurdle we have to jump in order to make Titan successful for TG is be able to store what we know about BF2142:Conquest, and learn how to play BF2142:Titan. It's enough of a different game that we need to treat it as a different game if we're going to enjoy it.
I hope this post doesn't offend anyone, I'm not directing it towards anyone, nor is it meant to be mean-spirited in any way. The challenges we face in this are not challenges because we, as TG, are incapable of meeting them, but because they go against the human instinct that has driven us for 1000s of years. We could make Titan work if we tried, it's just a matter of convincing everyone that the required effort it's going to take is well worth it.
That makes Silos far less unique in Titan mode than Flags on Conquest are the ways of transporting. On Titan you have high APC pods, Titan pods and Air Transports that can get you anywhere on the field in a few seconds. There is no frontline(s) as there is on Conquest.
Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
