Two questions...
Hello! I have two questions for you knowledgeable community...
A.What are these badges you have in your signatures? I notice several members that have them... Just wondering
B.Another question... are there any "in-house squads" (mercs, irregulars, |TG|Air, etc.) that will let somebody join under these (or my) requirements?
1. No access to xfire or teamspeak
2. no outgoing voice over IP, but active teamplayer via keyboard
3.No solid schedule of availability to play
Anyone? Or is it not right for me at the moment...
Thanks!

Re: Two questions...
you need to be a SM to join the IHS. The Irregs are the only ones you dont need to be an SM. Check out their section of TG. They do a great job around here.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Two questions...
The Irregulars are for those who are non-supporting members and those who don't have consistent time to set aside for gaming.

Re. your mic. It would help you out to a great extent to get a mic for TS and VOIP. I'm not one to tell people how to spend their cash, but a cheap mic would do wonders for your time here at TG. They're generally needed for In House Squads. In Order to Dance

Re: Two questions...
The badges are 2 things. In mine, I have a badge and a button. They are marks that I have passed TGU classes and/or participated in various scrims.
For instance, the gold button means that I have passed the TGU Advanced Squad Leader course. The badge means that I participated in a TG vs. TG scrim.Last edited by oniell121; 03-21-2009 at 02:48 AM.

Re: Two questions...
TGU = Tactical Gamer University (an event hosted now and again by experienced TG'ers to teach other less experienced ones how to play the game and play by TG rules (you get the button by being the less experienced)) And the ribbons are usually awards given out by the community for excellent conduct in-game (but mine and O'neil's were just for attending an event).
Just thought I'd confuse O'neil's post with a follow-up that is both long winded and probably not very helpful.
As far as the mic goes: get one. Really, I used to play without one but when I came to TG, not having one was no longer an option. Being able to communicate with squad mates instantly is a joy for me. I imagine it would be for you too.
My mic cost $30 (Can), but my brother snagged one for $4 (Can)... wish I could say mine is way better, but it's not. In fact, his mic is slightly clearer. But, just having the ability to make quick remarks about the battlefield or to ask a question of your squad lead can be a lot of fun, so I encourage you to just snag a cheap one when you can.
Sorry I've rambled. As far as IHS (in-house squads) goes, you'll need to be a supporting member. If that's not an option, you can still look into the Irregulars. Even without a mic they still might be happy to let you in, if you demonstrate the qualities they are looking for. No time for availablity is no biggie with the Irregs as well (I think). The other IHS's would probably ask for more of your time.
You should contact Damonte. I believe he's the head of the BF2142 Irregs.Put yourself out there and you'll be feeling the TG love quicker than you can say "can I come in sniper"! - Jazy

Re: Two questions...
Once again, thanks guys. I would love to get a mic, but at the moment (and probably for a while) I am restricted on voice over (parents).
Thanks for all of the info. I can see now how advanced |TG| actually is!

Re: Two questions...
Definitely have a look at the Irregs. VoIP is useful but for me following and acknowledging orders are even more so. You'll find most people don't read text messages so try not to rely on that. The commo-rose Q and T system with the PGUP/PGDN can cover a lot instant communication needs.
Feel free to add me to your buddy list and look for me in game to squad with.

Re: Two questions...
Zot's right on with the page up/down keys. One of the most annoying things about being a SL is when you ask a yes/no question of a squad mate and you recieve no response.
I understand where your parents are coming from, but I have to say TG is a very safe place to be. Many parents and even younger kids play on TG. I found it greatly amusing when I heard over Xpmts no-nonsense squad leading voice a kid cracking a joke in the backround. That had me cracking up for 15 minutes straight!
That being said, I always try to make mic-less people in my squads comfortable and contributors to the goal of teamplay. In fact, I think we played together a couple of days ago. I thought you did extremly well.Put yourself out there and you'll be feeling the TG love quicker than you can say "can I come in sniper"! - Jazy

Re: Two questions...
And you were right on here Mori.
Whenever I am SL (which seems to be about every game now), I do my very best to make sure that those without mics are just as welcome as those that I am able to chat it up with. And, it seems like more and more mic-less people are squading up with me as well. I make a greater effort to watch the squad text chat when I know that my mic-less squad members are at least attempting to communicate with me. I go out of my way to verbally recognize information passed on by these players when I see it. Sometimes that means that I might get killed a few more times than normal, or that I might be a tad late with relaying an order. But, that is okay, because the communication that these players provide is just as crucial as the people with mics. Plus, it only makes them feel that much more included when you laugh at their joke, or acknowledge that there is an enemy squad around the corner about to blow you to kingdom come. And, most of all, it encourages teamwork by all players in your squad.
So, all that rambling to say this. To my fellow SL's out there. Do your very best to watch your squad chat and to verbally communicate back to your mic-less squad members. Of course, with the fast pace of the in-game messages, you will not always catch everything. But, when you do your best to include those mic-less people, the team play in your squad is all the better.
That is the TG way.

Re: Two questions...
Really? Was that the belgrade round where I kept reviving people over and over and over again?
oh... the fun of it.
Would in-house squads (such as irregulars) be considered somewhat like clans? I am part of a very nice clan at the moment, and I will wear their tag. Is that fine?
Also, thanks for the comment Oz. I am glad you include us "non-mic" guys (thanks to all the others too
).

Re: Two questions...
Well put, OZ.
Anything a squad lead can do to encourage active participation from mic-less people will improve squad performance. Some will not respond, but those who do have the potential to become great TG'ers.Put yourself out there and you'll be feeling the TG love quicker than you can say "can I come in sniper"! - Jazy

Re: Two questions...
Actually, it was Shuia Taiba. A difficult map to keep squad cohesion on. You performed better than most at keeping with the squad. Indeed, better than a lot of people who have mics.
IHS`s are a lot like clans, actually. Tacticalgamer is a community, but within that community are many different clans. As far as the tag goes, they'd probably ask that you wear the |TG-Irr| tags were you to join them. But, again, best bring it up with Damonte or one of the other irregulars (like Zot or Logical over there).Put yourself out there and you'll be feeling the TG love quicker than you can say "can I come in sniper"! - Jazy
