    Timezones

I'm just wondering. Since we are a multinational group with members from all over the world, why do we always arrange events based on EST rather than UTC?

Would UTC not be a better choice since most people should be able to find out very easily what their timezone is in relation to UTC and it doesn't get screwed up by things like daylight savings?

    Re: Timezones

I agree. Using Zulu time or UTC would fit better anyway. Since TG has some kinda Military structure using the time the military does would fit very well.
And as Proctor already said it would make it easier for everyone to find the right timezone.

    Re: Timezones

I also think it would be easier (especially for me because I am in UTC ) since every other timezone is in relation to UTC.

It's just kind of a tradition to use EST, since the roots of TG are in North America, and since I can remember it's always been the standard timezone used for telling everyone about when stuff is happening.

i'm a brit and GMT is my game but i have no problems whatsoever with EST, it doesn't take a degree to add or subtract a few hours and to know when DST is in operation. This zulu stuff sounds a bit anal to me...

In fact, different parts of the world switch to DST at different times. At the moment, I'm not sure whether the times I see posted actually are EST or if they are in fact EDT (Eastern Daylight Time), at this point.

All that you need to know is that CET (Central European Time) is UTC +1 hour and CEST (Central European Summer Time), which is the time zone you are currently in, is UTC +2 hours. Simple.

    Re: Timezones

The server is located on the East coast of the United States, hence the time is too. I fully agree that it can be confusing for our Euro players what with time change and all. That said I would not appose trying to add a timezone clock to the server if possible so that people have an easy converter, however there are quite of few of them already available online.

The one thing that I will say is that this discussion should be moved to either the |TG| General Discussion forums, or into the Server Wish List section as this apply to the whole community not just 2142.

    Re: Timezones

Agreed, I posted this in the wrong forum - please accept my apologies and if an admin could move it, that would be most useful.

I understand the historical reasons for using Eastern Standard Time but it just seems a bit silly to stick with it considering that we have players from all over the world now (and bare in mind that Europe has several different timezones too).

I know that there are many converters out there but it just seems silly to have to convert at all. I don't know - to me it just seems logical to work from UTC and add from that point rather than have to convert EST back into UTC and then calculate from that point (which is basically what I do now).
