    Unhappy Locked Squads

I'm not a frequent visitor to the TG 2142 game but when I do visit, I'm kicked for failure to join a squad almost as often as I can get in. Sometimes it's my forgetfulness but more often all the squads are locked. Recently there's been a few 2 man squads as well as locked 4 & 5 man. The game is not full when I try. So is this typical, is there a way to get in ?

    Re: Locked Squads

2 man locked squad are manly use for specific asset use like tank, walker, apc, gunship, etc
4 & 5 man squad can be due to a squad leader who forget to remove the lock after filling is squad and someone left or it's just an IHS who wants to play alone trying new tactics out or things like that. In some special circumstance a 4 or 5 man squad can be better then a 6 if use properly so it can come from there too.

Usually you should be able to find a spot when squad unlock if not you could tryout squad leading ???

    Re: Locked Squads

    - Locked 2 man Squads are often for special things like APC, Tank, Gunship etc

    - Locked 5 man Squads often are waiting for 1 member that crashed or is joining

Join 2142 teamspeak channel and "famous" SLs like Silver, Fubar, etc will often get asked for invites. Sometimes even for "leave 1 spot open my PC crashed brb 1 minute".

Teamspeak is where it´s at !

Don't forget, you can always create your own squad. It might not be the most fun for the rest of the round, but you can rejoin up next round.

    Re: Locked Squads

Yeah I've had to make a couple of "three" man squads (consisting of me, myself, and I) when, a) I join and all the squads available are full or b) when the squads that could have more people are locked [due to being asset or waiting for people who crashed.

Normally when this happens I run around with one of the full squads and act as an extra medic for them until I get 1 or 2 people in my squad. Then I pick a flag and defend. It can be boring, but you just have to wait till the end of the round and then next round you have the opportunity of joining a squad.

    Re: Locked Squads

I would hope it's not as bad as you say. When I play, my squads are unlocked. Same with DocGuo, OZ, Martha, Torres, Roadwarrior... and many others usually run unlocked most of the time.

I'll tell you what, give me your in-game name and, if you're on at the same time as me, I'll make sure you get into my squad.

While I do understand the logic behind encouraging newcomers to form their own squads and learn how to SL, the fact is that TG'ers should be the ones doing these things. Better an experienced TG'er who doesn't know how to SL than an inexperienced newcomer who thinks he does. Frankly, even if you've SLed on other servers that still does not prepare you to SL on TG. (In fact, it's worse. SLing on other servers gives a completely false impression of what SLing is all about.)

It would be in the server's best interest for us TG'ers to form as many squads as we can every round, and for even people who are born natural leaders to follow behind a TG'er for a week or so. Only when one has followed, does one know how to command. That is true esspecially for TG.

    Ahem... /rant off

    You mean funnest, not funniest?

But do try to get on Teamspeak. Lots of regulars and TG alike use it and you can request a slot in a TG'ers squad and be in his/her squad!

    Re: Locked Squads

Ehh, I always leave my general squads unlocked. I also love to join squads lead by non TG people because I love to teach. There are also alot of good SLs that are not TG. We cannot have the attitude of us being better and being unwilling to let others learn and, most importantly, have fun.

And flip is right. TS is a blast.

    Re: Locked Squads

I almost never have a problem getting into a squad. There are always plenty of squads. TG led squads tend to fill up faster, but I still rarely have a problem joining a squad. Only time I do not want to join a squad is when the SL is a sniper (they don't need someone spawning on them giving away their snipe position). Every once in a while I have to make a squad, but that is almost never the case.

I say this from before being a TG and supporting member and after, locked squads are rarely an issue. The only difference is once you have played on the server, and people know you better, you tend to get more invites.

    Talking Re: Locked Squads

I understand the follow before lead and the reasons for sometimes limiting squad members. I don't mind playing medic or defending. IF I could get in a squad. But with 6 squads and all locked, you can only play for 90 seconds before getting kicked. You can't start a new squad with the limit maxed. I ran into that earlier today - only 42 players were logged in but I couldn't join a squad or create one.

Guess I got to get that TeamSpeak running so I can harrass someone about unlocking. Thanks for the tips.

    Re: Locked Squads

Richard -- don't worry about this advice on starting up your own squad. You shouldn't do something you don't like. You can only excel at something you like doing.

Squad leading, for me, was a natural step. I was just too ticked off with the way other people ran their business and I started my own. Until you get pissed off with how other people do things ... go on, be a squad member. Just don't forget to ask yourself, every once in a while "could I do better than this?"

Oh and as for your point above? In the 2 years I've played on TG, I have not even once seen a situation where I cannot create a squad. I find 8 2-man locked squads and a 1 5-man locked squad very hard to believe.

    Re: Locked Squads

Actually, what you're discribing sounds more like you came back into a game after being kicked. You must be "spawned in" in order to join or create a squad when that happens. It's an EA thing, not TG.

Edit: Oops, missed the 9 squad limit part. Yeah, that must have been at a strange hour. I've never seen 9 squads on TG. Just never happens.
