Balance
This last week, I was swamped with essays, tests, and a speech I had to write to run for our school's "judicial system", and was unable to play 2142 for the whole week.
Yet this gave me an interesting question:
How do you balance RL with 2142? Cramming game time into periods of no work? Scheduled gaming times? What about relationships? Work, school, weekends, weekdays?
Just curious. He was told that he should not kill, and he did not kill, until he got into the Army. Then he was told to kill, and he killed.

Re: Balance
For me I play on the weekends. Don't have time at all during the week with constant school work and papers (Bleh). So yeah, weekends for me unless I have to be working on papers

Re: Balance
Well you have to realize that this is just a game and that your education is very important, its still good to get some fun (games) in when you can. As to how much time everyone has to judge it based on their own values. Like Jetheren you can play on weekends while you do your work (hopefully all of it) during the week. I adopt a different stratagem for my school work, game for a bit every night and learn to take breaks when you start to become unproductive but make sure that you still keep in the back of your mind the goals you need to accomplish. This is a bit risky but I've done well with it because I can usually fly through most of my work load (tasty organic chemistry lab reports) but my style also comes from the types of classes I have which focus less on out of class work and more on understanding class lecture and other material for tests (which is nice for me because I absorb knowledge pretty well during class when I can really focus out of my room away from the computer). For those times you just want to ignore your work and play (even though you hear that voice telling you to do work, or is that just me...) turn your computer off, plain and simple. Like I said education is more important than games (getting a job will let you play more games with a better computer later).
Speaking of which I need to get back to those lab write ups.Reapator, overlord of ponies

Re: Balance
During exam weeks, I only play for a little bit during the days leading up to the exam but almost never on the day prior to the actual exam. Of course I would play after the exams to cool down.
But otherwise I try to get my work done FIRST and then play. In Russia, we have a saying "Кончил дело, гуляй смело", which roughly translates to "Work hard, play hard". So all the important stuff comes first, games come second

Re: Balance
Balance is for Sissies.
I game when I feel the NEED to BLEED !
I dont care if I lose my job, or my house, or if Torres's wife decides to leave me, or if Catman sends me boxes of dead cats again ( and who knows where the heck he found/collected all the dead cats ) or if Eroak isnt around to TK me at the moment
2142 is the KEY to marital and spiritual well being
any true TG player KNOWS this to be true .. just ask the LyraOracle

Re: Balance
I found setting aside time (7:30-10 on Monday nights) worked well with my ex. She knew monday nights I'd be "gaming" and didn't double book it. That gives me my fix. I usually pop on for a couple hours on the weekend when I can, but sometimes that just doesn't happen.

Re: Balance
On weekdays I try to do any work as soon as I get home from school. This means that I can 2142 it in the evening which coincides with when most TG'ers are on.
Saturdays is a no work day. I do no work what-so-ever, so I usually end up going out somewhere and then maybe playing 2142 later into the night than normal.
Sundays is a 'do work' day if there's anything I need to do. This is usually essays and larger project which I can't be bothered to do midweek. It means I can set up a few hours to do this work if necessary.
It got a bit hectic recently with exams coming up but I found the balance! Soon I have study leave (no school leading up to the exams apart from some structured revision sessions) which means I'm home most of the time but my schedule will change alot as I have to do alot of revision to get the grades. Do the work now and it will pay of when I'm enjoying my summer...

Re: Balance
Even though I'm a full time student and worker, a dad, a spouse, and developing a grad level robotics course for my university, I can still play. However my reasons for that are simple, for my "me" time besides building robots and programming them (been getting more into AI) I watch Sarah Conner chronicles and Better off Ted (though never their reruns); BF2142 is the only game I play.
I'm usually only on late at night anyway, so that explains that.
Anyways, I juggle it all by keeping a weekly/monthly planner that I write everything into. I make small goals for myself for big projects and make a list at the end of every week of what needs to get done and the days that I will do them. When my daily goals are met that means game time for me.

Re: Balance
After 8 hours of studying I think I deserve being on battlefield for the night. I study during the day and play during the night. On a average exam week I get 4-5 hours of sleep a day and when a have a day of before the next exam I give my self a 10h sleep and this is functional for two weeks. With less sleep comes more gaming time and more study time if you like coffee then this is the thing for you :P

Re: Balance
I goto work at 5am, and get off work around 1:30pm, so I'm good for most of the day.
