FYI - Belgrade is an Armor Map
/Rant on
There has been a thing around for year on this map. Itīs called: "Lets be Infantry at Comtower while trying to ignore out any enemy armor!"
This has lead to:
- Getting your butt kicked by APCs in Comtower
- Not be able to advance anywhere else when needed because the enemy armor blocks you in
- Being denied any chance to rush to an enemy backflag with a buggy
- Even totally ignoring the friendly armor at the main base and letting it stand around
Belgrade has lots of armor! If you try to pretend itīs an infantry map - you will suffer. Suffer hard. Well played APCs can pin down hugh junks of comtower and cost you an enormous amount of tickets. The Walker at Statue keeps the enemy APC at bay, so does your Tank.
Lets make up 2 practical examples:
A) PAC team rushes for Ruins, Pond and Statue. PAC Team mines the main road with EMP mines against Rushes. PAC Team takes control over the roads at Ruins and Statue. PAC team is able to shell Comtower from the outside. PAC now has contol and can herass EU.
B) EU team rushes to Comtower, Monorail and Playground. EU team has awesome infantry action at Comtower till enemy APC arrives. EU team suffers. EU team is pinned. Soon PAC team can rush Monorail with a Buggy to lock the EU armor down. Crying ensues.
/Rant off

Re: FYI - Belgrade is an Armor Map
Hmmm, where does this armor spawn at Belgrade? I've never noticed it.
PS: The above statement was purely tongue in cheek.

Re: FYI - Belgrade is an Armor Map
I've never seen Belgrade as an armor map on the same level as Verdun, or Suez. It's more like the perfect blend between armor and infantry. It's definitely my favorite map because of that.
Lyra's right, you can't just ignore the armor element of this map. The Walker that spawns at statue is a valuable asset that should be kept out of the enemy's hands. I know a lot of you have SMed for me and know I have a bit of an obsession with going for Statue, there's a reason for that! If you've been the unlucky soul who volunteered for engineer in my squad, you know exactly what I'm talking about since I put you in charge of the walker. I don't care so much about the actual flag at Statue, or even about having the walker, as much as preventing the enemy from getting their hands on it.
Com Tower is fun to attack on foot, but don't make it your main focus. Remember there's a whole other aspect of the map that can't afford to be ignored!

Re: FYI - Belgrade is an Armor Map
Good thread!
Sls never ask for engineers unless they go for statue, and even then they usually ask him to change when walker is down.
I can say that 70% of the losses I've had on Belgrade have been only because enemy managed to keep armor domination on for whole round.
I want to see some mines out there (unless I'm in tank, then you can ignore this thread -- if you are on enemy side that is
)

Itīs a "blend" of exactly 1 flag you cannot reach with armor - just shoot in. It's more like the perfect blend between armor and infantry

That was a very strange round and I was wondering wth your team was doing...

Re: FYI - Belgrade is an Armor Map
In my experience armor maps have lots of 'open fields' with patches of buildings, this place has small 'open fields' surrounded by buildings. The ratio and spacing would define the game style and coupled with that is the fact that "Comm Tower" was deliberately created to be an infantry only area to ensure that aspect was preserved.
In my opinion Belgrade is a blend between both Armour and Infantry styles.
