    Y sniperz r gud

    Y sniperz r gud -
    by Snideley McSnipey

    1. Spotting - You can spot teh enemeez! You can spot the enemy walker, and then... DO NOTHING! while it kills your squadmates. But hey, at least you didn't die, like those other dumb a**holes actually trying to fight the thing. Sheesh.

    2. Style - The uniforms are SO much cooler, especially the helmets! It DOES cover up my moustache, but hey, when you're promoting teamwork certain sacrifices must be made.

    3. Diversion - You can make the enemy use precious resources to fight you. For every death, they may have to use - up to 4 ROCKETS! After a while they will suffer the indignity of... wait for it... dropping an ammo hub.

    4. Fear - Traumatic memories of being headshot will cause the other team to... well... they'll be scared, OK? Cuz they fear you and your 5 kills, really.

    5. Cloaking - You can cloak right past the unsuspecting enemeez! On maps where it really matters, no one will spot your outline, no one will use an IDS, no one will place sentry guns and APMs in tricky places, no random APC mortars or grenades will frag you. Most important, Zhohar won't hunt you, gut you, and leave your eviscerated body as an example to others. Nope, won't happen.

    6. Fire superiority - Opposing squads will be so overcome with fear of the sniper (which they can't see, but hey you can never be too careful) that they will lose to your squad in spite of superior numbers on the ground. Now that's GOD-LIKE!

    7. Headshotting people is cool. This is the real reason it's fun to play sniper. Why can't we just admit it?

Snideley realizes that this is a living document, and is nowhere near complete. So pitch in, add your own reasons, it's fun!

I've always wanted to play the Recon class and actually use the sniper rifle (as sniping has always been my favorite FPS activity), but I don't dare try in a TG squad. No way I could keep up effectivly and still play the role as a sniper. I need to go on other servers where the squads don't move at the speeds TG SL's like them to go and try out the role of a sniper.

Ok, so for all you non-believers about how snipers don't do crap during a match, I stopped a cap of Command on Carebear today with my sniper rifle. The flag was being capped right under the nose of our entire team, and I shot their SL in the head, then sniped the guy going for the rez, and then finally the guy that ran to revive them. The other three members of the squad were around the backside of the second story, and were quickly met by the rest of my squad that had been warned of them by me and finished them off.

I rarely play sniper anymore on TG, but it upsets me that you ridicule it so. I picked up the kit only for a bit today, but while I had it I had plenty of confirmed non-revived kills (I confirmed them because I covered the body for the full 15 seconds) and I spotted a capture attempt, thwarted it long enough for my squad to react, and even bagged a few nice shots in the process. Lastly, body sniping does cause most enemies to run for cover, clearing the way for a squads advance. Throw a few nades ahead of you along with it and half the enemy squad will be dead before you even hit the flag.

    Two words: Chris Hooper...

Though I guess 'Lord Kelvin' would have worked as well...

I'll give you the typical sniper doesn't do well here, but I've seen some REALLY good snipers on |TG| ones who play with the team, not just get points. Heck if you really ever want to face death in the face, go up against Eroak as a sniper, he can wipe a full squad no problem.

Please note that the bullet points mentioned above represent the specially skilled p00bie Recon that has spent many training hours in areas that promote chaos & confusion, and is the breeding grounds for the Lone Wolf and the abundant Bunny Hopper. Here at TG, our Recon training focuses on the know how to toss RDX and obfuscate AP mines as opposed to the sneak & head shot dance.

He was told that he should not kill, and he did not kill, until he got into the Army. Then he was told to kill, and he killed.

Some people didn't have situational awareness. But the sniper discussion has happened many times already.

Eroak plays sniper? I'd like to see that...I've seen Guardian and chris_hooper, haven't really seen LordKelvin, we need a sniper-only night one of these days.

Snipers are called recon for a reason - to recon...to spot people, and then maybe kill them.

Just to clarify snipers/recons have no advantage over any other kit in the spotting department, all kits are equal.

Indeed, this is the case. Pointing a Pilum at an approaching enemy is just as effective as pointing a Voss or a Zeller at them while Q-spotting.

However, the zoom feature has its uses... like seeing that sneaky cloaker or SL hiding in a bush. It can also sometimes give a clearer view of the goings-on in a particular area when zoomed mid-way in.
