Re: Large scale warfare on display this Thursday
! Today is the Day !
I would like to personally thanks Mantis for this GREAT initiative.

N.B.
I have the following consideration / question / food for thought:
If a non-TG Officer / Admin had posted what Mantis did, I am sure that many of us would jump in and start to disagree about large scale, armor, maps, how pubbies will ruin the fun, how large scale is "zero tactics", or to suggest that the only way to kill Lyra is on a CQB situation.
Now that a TG Officer takes such an initiative, WHY everyone is happy?Last edited by Rasta-GR; 05-07-2009 at 02:11 PM. Reason: CQB

Re: Large scale warfare on display this Thursday
I would have had the same reaction. I miss the bigger maps, allows more movement, as opposed to relying on the tried and true tactics of Cerebere, etc. The armor maps can be played infantry style if you stick with your squad and are smart about cover and movement, people just get lazy and want the older maps back because they know what to do on them.

Someone record this...or send me the replay! I can't make it as I have a final tonight. This looks like it will be epic and sure to make a good video.

Re: Large scale warfare on display this Thursday
Personally I am a infantry person who doesn't particularly love huge maps with lots of armor, however it will be a nice change of pace and I'll be on later today
Proud to have been an Irregular!

Re: Large scale warfare on display this Thursday
It wasn't really meant as sarcastic lol, sorry.
If you play to your squad's strengths, and use good movement patterns, you could get between flags on Suez fairly safely. You have to play smart and move at opportune times.
The only downside to playing so meticulously is that the round may end up being over before your squad sees some solid action.
The idea is to use a lot of leapfrogging, and there will be moments where you're going to be moving over large areas that won't give you much cover. Staggering your squad members in a traveling line will work better and keeps people within revive range.
The following movement pattern is hard to setup at times, but will give your squad a better view of what's going on ahead and to the sides of you:
This is good when there's a lot of cover, because people can break line and only the first few people face immediate danger:
X
X
X
X
X
X
This type of squad setup (mostly/pure infantry on an armor map) will definitely benefit from having a recon included in the mix.
One very fun thing to do for these maps is to get 3 people together in a squad and only rely on your feet and FAVs. Do whatever you can to annoy the enemy. With the smaller size, you can hide and get away easier, and if you are wiped, aren't as costly as a whole squad losing all of their tickets.
/explaination off
The electrician should be finishing up in my room today (I hope) so I'll hopefully be on for some awesome fun today/tonight!
