    Re: Disappointed

From an administrative point of view, we generally allow locked squads for a variety of reasons and purposes. The only time we will actively ask someone to unlock a squad is either when it's a one-man locked squad or when we see that the locked squad is an obvious attempt to isolate the members from the team and skirt rules.

From a players point of view, I will only lock my squads during the initial squad creation when I hand out invites to play with folks I enjoy playing with. Since my time in game is rather limited these days, I want to play with friends and enjoy myself. However, if there are open slots after my invites are sent, I always unlock the squad. Truth be told, I feel uncomfortable if a squad I'm in is locked for any duration of time for any reason other than reserving a dropped player's slot.

    Re: Disappointed

I agree with what Lorax said, whenever I squadlead I usually lock my squad at the beginning just to get one or two of the people I enjoy playing with in but that generally leaves at least 3 open spots and I always unlock and let anybody in. Really that is what most people do, it is very rare on the server where a squad is locked the entire round. Usually you just have to be a fast clicker to get into the squad you want to

    Re: Disappointed

    Hey Guerrilla,

I am the training officer for the 21st. I lock my squads to pull the 21st together, practice teamwork, tactical movement, and particular skills. But here is the thing, I will always open up my locked squad and before I do that, I will invite anyone that has asked to join, wants to have fun and play tactically. If you ever see a 21st squad (even if it is full) and want to get in on the action, just ask. I can say rather confidently that Tactical Gamer wants to see all TG members and Pubs alike play tactically and well; it is in everyone best interest, as it fosters the type of fun we look for in being here.

I am glad you are ready to learn the ropes of squad leading. If you need some backup let me know, anytime.

One last thing from my experience the 8th Mercs have more Squad Leaders that step up to leading with open unlocked squads than any other IHS and they should be commended for this.

    Cheers,
    A

    Re: Disappointed

Before the game, if you see a |TG| tagged player lock a squad, just wait a few seconds, and typically it will become unlocked after they've invited a couple of their friends, IHS mates, etc.. Hold that mouse over the join button and as soon as you see it become available, click it quick.

I know with me and my 55th squad mates, there are usually only 2 or 3 of us on at the same time, so we will usually only lock the squad for a few seconds until we're in, and then unlock it and then it's first come first serve. My situation is like Lorax stated above though, and my play time is limited to about 2 times a week. So when I happen to be on and a lot of my friends are playing, I will try to play with full squads of them as much as possible because I want to enjoy my game time to the fullest.

Not to be offensive to certain In-house squads (actually, this one looks like one of my favorites), but several times I have seen a continual non-asset squad named "eight-ball" with members not in that specific IHS. I could name names, but then it sounds like I am on the offensive. I just am putting out information.

EDIT: and, by the way, some people are not available to use Teamspeak (me) for certain reasons, so don't go that route please.
Sometimes squad leaders also forget to unlock a squad after inciting so don't feel bad mate

Guerilla, I would strongly urge you to start your own squads if you find other squads filled up. If you would like pointers, or basic help in getting started, I'd be more than happy to help you.
Catch me on TS, and I can show you in under 5 minutes how to have fun while squad leading and how to get things done.

#1 advice I can give you right now: when faced with a frustrating situation, think of the solution, focus on the solution, and not the problem. Your post is focusing on the problem, and not the solution.

I used to be a major advocate for unlocking squads, and even as an IHS member, its sometimes disheartening to see a whole locked TG squad that even I wasn't invited to, but I've been noticing a 2 fold increase in the stuff Martha was talking about above. I try to run unlocked squads, but of the 5 guys, 2 of them lonewolf anyway with whatever kit they feel like and another 2 are usually 100 steps behind me leaving me with only 1 competent squad member. I guess I just like playing with people who keep up and pay attention which I'm guaranteed when I hand-pick my squaddies.

I think that the only times I lock my squad is when I'm doing a 3 man buggy squad, or I've just kicked out a teammate who wasn't listening to me. Like others have said before me, squad leading is the best way to go when no other squads are available. It honestly isn't that hard, and you can find plenty of people who will be willing to show you a guiding hand.

Actually, today, on belgrade, I was invited my drbeat to her squad (thank you!!), and she un-locked it. After about one minute, someone else in the squad pointed out another TG squad, and also freshened up our memory about this thread. A very nice and active member (actually, one who posted on this thread himself) kept a locked non-asset squad, not consisting of members of just his IHS, and kept it that way throughout the whole round. IHS practice? Didn't seem like it. Asset? No. The whole round. I didn't get screenshots for the squad leader's sake.

    Re: Disappointed

Lyra is right. Those who unlock their squads do so out of courtesy, since there is no rule making them do so.

In my personal opinion, I think it is great that some TG'ers become experts by playing together on a regular basis. On the other hand, if more than half of a team (about 2 full squads) consistantly lock their squads, it makes growing TG difficult, if not impossible.

Just two sides of the coin I'd like everyone to consider when discussing this topic.

    Re: Disappointed

An interesting observation I have made lately. When running gunship squads, many of the non-TG'ers that have joined me have asked me on VOIP if I'd like them to leave in favour of a TG squadmate. I have to explain to them that this action would really undermine the TG way of thinking, and would just generally be poor sportsmanship.

We must view non-TG'ers as TG'ers in the making. Just because they don't wear the tags, doesn't mean we should write them off.
