    Re: Disappointed

So, first I just have to remark how after 4 pages a flame war is non-existent. I am so use to playing in clans and gamer communities where a conversation like this would decay into 7th grade playground tantrums. The lack of juvenile chest pounding is incredibly refreshing.

For those who have argued for the reasons behind locked squads, I fully agree with you and understand. Locking a squad has a plethora of legitimate and strategic purposes. Beyond just wanting to squad up with friends, if a squad operates well as a whole I can understand the desire to not mess up the flow. I have been in those squads that find their groove and end up playing a major role in the victory of the team. This game is 20% skill, and 40/40 communication and teamwork.

However, I also agree and understand the arguments against locked squads, because TG is about being an open community focused on teamwork and development. We need to remain open to all; seeking to expand teamwork, cooperation, and strategic game play across the server. If 80% of the TG members on a team are locked up in TG only squads it sends a message to TG and non-TG alike (even if the message is fully unintentional).

A balance must be sought after. People should feel free to squad up with friends and IHS's, but there should be an equal desire to start up the "Learn TG" squads. Good gamer communities (like everything else in life) require a give/take relationship. Many of us have benefited greatly by joining TG and playing on the servers. We should each be willing to do what we can to share that experience with new TG members and non-TG members alike.

At least that is my humble opinion...perhaps I am just a crazy Marxist.

    Re: Disappointed

I have to say I'm impressed with the fact that nobody's gotten too up-at-arms about this whole thing, as well. Prior threads on the topic have devolved into some rather nasty comments. Maybe that's why this one has done so well--we have practice hearing this sort of thing. Anyway, I tend to agree. We shouldn't feel that we have to spend every round on the server running open squads, but at the same time, we should make time every so often to open up our squads, invite new people, and do some teaching of the TG way. It's something I've been more remiss than normal about lately. Thanks for the reminder.

Try TS (best option). Could I also suggest signing up for Crossfire. You'lll get a huge slice of awesome pie and will definately be in a TG squad then. It just takes a bit of time and people will get to know you and invite you often. Scrim type events are usually smaller scale than the usual full server. So including the planning and pre round antics you get a more personal feel. I find these "social" events to be some of the best fun ever in 2142. You get to enjoy the banter and all that jazz without the bullets and 'nades and shouted orders flying about. Put yourself out there and you'll be feeling the TG love quicker than you can say "can I come in sniper"!

TG has many rules to encourage a type of game play. No spawn camping, UC base protection, no roof top beacons, etc...

It seems to me these rules exist to encourage people to play on your server. To keep from frustration folks that can happen sometimes when you are spawning into a slaughterfest in an uncap base.

You should really think about the end effect all the locked squads have on visitors. Essentially you are working against everything those other rules stand for. The end result is pushing folks away so they don't get to enjoy playing in the great environment you have here.

I understand locking asset squads or locking them to get a few people in and then opening up the last couple slots.

I even understand locking a full squad to play with people you enjoy occasionally. Great more power to you. My only suggestion is when you have done that round after round, game after game, night after night, if you REALLY think your actions are reflecting the ideals you claim to champion by wearing that TG tag.

Wow, Guerilla, you put into words exactly what I was thinking, and you did it all without the extra junvenile chest beating that I would have used. Oh well, no time like the present. *starts chest beating*

In all seriousness, I think the reason for the cordiallity is almost entirely due to the sense of comraderie we feel towards each other. Though the silence shouldn't be seen as a lack of passion on this issue, it should rather be seen as a desire to prevent damage to the community at large.

We may all feel personally on one side of the issue or the other, the fact we feel the need to put the community before our own personal concerns speaks volumes for the kind of community we have.

Well put, but please keep in mind that we also encourage tactics and teamwork, the primer says it best and everyone should read it....even a re-read is good for a reminder.
I am also sooo glad that everyone has shown their best side in this thread...amazing how far things have come(wipes a tear).....

This pretty much sums up exactly how I feel about the matter and more eloquently than I could ever put it.

    Re: Disappointed

I've been noticing a recent influx of locked squads, but I can understand most of them. One is for the gunships, four people at the most really, walkers, tanks, etcetera. It doesn't really bother me except when one squad is made up of all the TG members on our team. I dislike playing squads not run by a TG member because I rarely hear the Squad Leader speak, or some other annoyance.
