Disappointed
So, I have been away from BF2142 for a few months due to college. Now that i have graduated I have logged on to play a few times and I have been nothing but disappointed with TG. It seems like all of the TG members gather into locked squads forming exclusive little groups that leave the rest of us to fend for ourselves in squads that just wanna run lone wolf.
6 months ago TG was about squad play and everyone working as a team. Now, whole squads of TG members shut themselves off from the rest of the team. Where did the teamwork go? Where did the desire for strategic game play go? Where did the community go?
I am sick of seeing TG members huddle together in locked squads. Teamwork means more than playing with the same 5 people every round. As TG members we should be willing to open squads to everyone and encourage server-wide teamwork. If this is what TG is going to be, elitist groups which refuse to squad up with non-TG and non-regulars, than this game isn't even worth playing anymore...cuz this use to be the only fun server.“I don't care if I fall as long as someone else picks up my gun and keeps on shooting.”

Re: Disappointed
While there is some truth in what you state I would hesitate to use such a 'broad brush'.
I see locked squads as you do, and similar groups of TG members banding together. There are a number of reasons for this including IHS practice, IHS camaraderie, friendship, and sometimes just because people have fun gaming together.
I dont think there is any ulterior motive at play, I think its just human nature to socialize with people whom you are familiar. Its also human nature to ascribe this to 'elitism' or 'exclusivity' - when its simply people having fun. Too often we feel 'slighted' or 'unwanted' when quite frankly its all in our imagination - the internet helps reinforce this anomaly.
Truth be told, I have felt the same way as you - which is one of the reasons I am 'not' in an IHS. I like to game with everyone and not feel 'obligated' to join any particular flock of gamers - or make anyone feel as if I have 'excluded' them.
Also, I typically create unlocked squads and let the chips fall where they may. Sometimes I lock the squad to get a friend or two in, sometimes ( if the server is full of idiots ) I do it to keep out the riffraff that wont listen. Mostly I do it because I know that all the non TG people out there feel the same way you do - and I want them to feel included. I enjoy meeting new players that love teamwork as much as we do, and inviting them to join TG. In fact there are a number of people here who's arms I have twisted to join up. Subsequently those people put on TG tags, and join my squad... which I guess makes us all look elitist when we are just having fun.
So in the long run I guess I believe we should give everyone the benefit of doubt and not ascribe negative motivations when its just human nature to socialize with friends. Likewise, try not to paint TG et al with your paintbrush .. when many of us feel the same as you.

I completely agree with martha. He summed it up quite nicely. If there are specific instances that you think may be uncalled for, you can use our Contact An Admin forum to talk directly and privately with our great admins.

Re: Disappointed
Hey MarthaHyer. I understand what you are saying, and I don't believe it is ulterior motives either. However, I remember a time about 6 months ago when teamwork seemed to be at the foreground of game play on TG. Now it seems as though each squad functions autonomously and commander orders are nothing more than a way for commander to rack up points. Perhaps I am looking back on those months with a touch of nostalgia, but the server just seems different.
I remember being able to jump into any squad and people would be communicating over voip, SL would be laying out orders, and Commander would be taking care of battle strategy. Now it seems like every round is a clusterf**k race to get the most control points.
Not all squads are like this. I have found a few decent ones, but they are noticeably infrequent. The majority of the time I am stuck in a squad that doesn't talk, doesn't stick together, and doesn't support others. I come to TG for mature, strategic squad play. As of late this has been almost non-existent in most squads.
I am not saying that I think TG people are purposefully alienating themselves from the rest of the team...I understand the desire to play with familiar "faces". However, the lack of teamwork does stand out and I just figured I would bring it up in hopes that things will go back to the TG i remember. The reason TG has stood out in BF2142 is because we have dedicated ourselves to open, cooperative teamwork and honest strategy. It is why i love playing on the server, and i would hate to lose that environment.“I don't care if I fall as long as someone else picks up my gun and keeps on shooting.”

Re: Disappointed
Most of the time it's just socialization. The only thing people at TG want... should want... more than teamwork is to have fun. That means playing with friends, and IHS's are common case of this. There are a few IHS's - not sure in the 2142 field of operations however - that encourages their members to welcome public people in and let them have a fun time, the TGXV is a good example.
But maybe you are right, I myself have not been on the TG 2142 server and thus cannot make a proper judgement. But sometimes people need to think about their actions and thinking, it's impacts and advantages/disadvantages, and work out how to make a much better overall solution.
If there is too much socializing going on, not that I'm against it. Maybe you should try and speak to an admin to organize a PW night or present an event night to the 2142 community.
If this is how the 2142 server is, then to be frank, speaking out will get people thinking, and, at the rarest, encourage some action by a few individuals. But ultimately you or a group of supporters should present something to the community that encourages them to get back into strategy and good ol' teamwork. Like an event as I said that would actually present something that can be acted on.
Speak to an admin, I'm sure they can help you or take your word. But don't take my word for all of it, I'm not familiar with TG 2142.|TG-69th|Berlancic2"Speed. Aggression. Surprise."

Re: Disappointed
If you're looking for Squad Leads who do not lock their squads, you're looking at one. Hell you're looking at 3 in this thread alone.
Just keep at it. I'll probably be on tonight, and you're welcome to join my squad. I'll even lock it for you if you want.

Re: Disappointed
Hey Guerrilla_1961!
Glad to see you back mate! It has been quite a while but i hope your doing well.
But back on topic your some kinda right with what your saying. I think that may also came from the fact, that more and more people ( must random public gamer ) are on the server lately. As a SL i can say sometimes i do lock my squads as well to get a few friends inside and then open it again. I don´t play that often lately and if i do i want to make sure playing with my friends. A few slots are still open to new player because how should this community grow if we keep all the awesomeness in locked squads and don´t share it with people unaware of this magic fortune of love and teamwork? ( we where all puppies ones and got converted by some one who let us be in his squad )
If your on TS give me a sign so we can squad up together again! It always has been great fun playing with you.

Re: Disappointed
I dont know so much about locked squads, but I do see a substantial decline in teamwork minded attitudes and play styles.

Re: Disappointed
From the perspective of somone who just started playing on the TG servers, I have to say that my take on the matter is completely opposite.
The only locked squads I've seen are mission-specific (tanks for example) and I don't have a problem with that. Like anything, there are better squads than others. Some TG squads I've been in fully embrace the TG approach, while others weren't much better than what you'd find on a public server. It's all about the quality of the leadership. In fact, my best squad experience has been in a completely non-TG squad and we ended up top squad for three rounds in a row.
So while there may be a few exclusionary groups out there, in my experience the vast majority of squads and players are open to anyone and especially to new non-TG folks.

Re: Disappointed
I do agree with Martha on this, but on the contrary, I thought the rules were locked squads only for certain assets (tanks, etc.). Lately though, I have seen several non-asset TG squads remain locked throughout the whole round. For instance, excluding Camp G yesterday, I played 4 rounds, and none of them had a TG squad leader, for the only open squads (not saying open in number of positions available, I am saying non-locked) were non-mic using squads. Not to be offensive to certain In-house squads (actually, this one looks like one of my favorites), but several times I have seen a continual non-asset squad named "eight-ball" with members not in that specific IHS. I could name names, but then it sounds like I am on the offensive. I just am putting out information.
EDIT: and, by the way, some people are not available to use Teamspeak (me) for certain reasons, so don't go that route please.

Re: Disappointed
This topic comes up now and then. A point to remember: while perception may not necessarily be reality it is still important to convey a teamwork atmosphere. Yes, everyone wants to play with their buddies, but if someone like Guerilla is coming here on the forums stating what his perception of the server's current state is, then we should pay attention and consider what he's saying instead of hand-waving it away.
We all know that the locked squads are just friends playing together, but what does random player "Th3Sn1per" who just joined our BF2142 server think? He doesn't know about these forums, he is NOT on the Teamspeak server to ask to get into that locked squad. All he sees are some not-so-tactical lonewolf squads open for business amidst a slew of TG squads either locked or locked during the pre-mission brief while the SL invites a host of TGers instead of those random players left out in the cold.
Either do the Learn TG squads again to bring new members into our way of thinking or continue the inbreeding amongst ourselves as the server dies off. Why join our server with its rules and limitations and requirements to be in a squad when there's nothing particularly special about the non-locked squads in comparison to Joe Snuffy server that allows spawncamping, suicide buggies, and bunny hopping?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blah blah blah.

Re: Disappointed
@ArmoredBear, I had never even thought of joining the TS server and asking to get in. That's a really good idea. Thanks!
@black_Mirror, It has been too long man. The best game play I have ever experienced in BF has been under your leadership. I hope to see you on in the near future.
I guess I get why some lock squads. I don't agree with it all of the times for a lot of the reasons stated above. It has also been a while since I have seen a "learn TG" squad. Instead of pointing out what i see wrong, I am going to work to make it better. With my new found life (hoo-ray no more tedious papers and useless required reading) I am going to read up on proper SLing and step up.“I don't care if I fall as long as someone else picks up my gun and keeps on shooting.”

Re: Disappointed
Thank you very much mate! I really appreciate that. Lets hope we get some rounds together soon!
Best news so far! Don´t get yourself frustrated if...
-at the beginning no one joins up
-people won´t listen and you find yourself all alone at the move marker and you know you will soon be dead
-plans not always work out that well
..because every single person enjoying your squads and showing them self on the forum will be worth it! Best feeling ever if you convert someone into a follower of the TG-Way.
SLing needs a lot of practice but it´s also a lot of fun! Just hit me with a pm if you need any advice. I am not the best SL ( actually i am far away of that ) but i can give you some tips where to start.
Best wishes buddy
