Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
Hmmm.... I probably have about 8-10 rounds under my belt as well. Its freakin chaos!!!! I need to learn the lingo over on this side, IMPs, EMPs, UAVs, ATMs, WTF!!!
There is still a ton to learn but with time i may do alright. I was in Latinas squad with an awesome 2-18 KDR. Does that answer your question?
If you regulars see me running around out there with no clue, hook a brother up and give me one.

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
hahaha... i feel your pain.. so far, i think i've learned a few important basics:
1) at least 25% of the time, you need to be looking at the minimap
2) only 1 out of 4 deaths is from bullets... (which leads to lesson #3)
3) "cover" in 2142 is VERY different... you need to anticipate rockets and nades... basically play as if everyone has PoE2 MBT HEAP rounds and you'll get the idea
you need to be ~5m back from the edge to be safe.
4) crouch is the new prone

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
EMP's(electro-magnetic-pulse I believe) temporarily disable vehicles, there is the commander EMP and the EMP nades that the support kit can carry (and always should carry). UAV(unmanned areal vehicle? not sure on that one) is the commander asset that scans for enemy soldiers for a certain amount of time and shows them as dots on your mini-map. ATM...is nothing as far as I know
perhaps you meant APM's which are anti-personel-mines that the recon kit carries. They explode if you walk past them, however if you crouch or prone they do not see you.
Hope that clears some things up

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
You nailed it! As I've been playing more, I've really been loving the support kit (especially now that my BF2-insta-prone twitch is starting to wear off!) I like the range how the guns handle, and the sentry is fun too. Had a blast on infantry only tonight playing mostly support. Went 17-0 one round even!

Just working towards IDS now

Ah yes, the IDS. We have a new person to blame for the early disconnections. lol

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
Thanks for all the feedback guys! So I started by going up the medic tree... that worked well since I could self-heal (important for a noob) and rank-up pretty quickly. I then started using the support kit and am LOVING it. The LMG's suit my play style very well... the sentry is fun (albeit largely ineffective)... the IDS is REALLY nice as well.
Sooooo... here's where I'm at so far with the unlocks... I've got it to a point now where I have most of the things I normally use via Field Upgrades (IDS, Baur, Otis, advanced ammohub):
Not sure where I'm going next. Im thinking of maybe grabbing the baur in order to reach the Advanced Magazine (bonus rocket you say?)... any suggestions? I don't see the accipiter being used by many SL's - unlocking the otis to get to that not a good idea?

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
get IDS as unlock, rather than just field unlock
get otus
put IDS onto otus and zoom minimap 'N', enjoy your own local UAV that follows you around, then pay me royalties for using this tactic, as I inventing it
engineer next
right hand side first >>> 3 unlocks upto motion mines, then switch and do the whole of the left hand tree, all the way up to bait

Id say Max Clip, but taking advice from me is probably not the smartest thing. Its almost like asking a blind person for directions.

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
Extra rockets are golden imo, but if you want to live through armor maps I'd crap motion mines (unlock or field upgrade level). Then rockets if you already didn't and maybe go for otus then. Otus is useful but it will easily shows who is the SL and ''diamonds'' are always 3 seconds behind the time.
So maybe -> Baur -> extra rockets -> engineer tree to saaw (so you can unlock extra magazine as field upgrade) -> Otus -> Advanced ammo hub -> Engineer tree till Pilum
Also you might want to put extra frag somewhere there, as support you don't really need it but usually the 3rd frag is what gets you the kills from those who try to revive.
EDIT: And forgot IDS as you were talking about it as you had it (field unlock ofcourse), so take that first = much better than as field unlockLast edited by Mixa; 06-14-2009 at 12:49 PM.

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
if you're looking to participate as a good squad member, I'd go for the following things, whiskey:
1. IDS
2. Otus drone
3. The ramp up to motion mines.
IDS is a no brainer as it's hugely valuable and only one away (and will be more so when you get the clark shotgun and will generally fight closer to your enemies).
Otus drone, even though you might not SL, is because it's the best SL tool and your SL will die and pick up your kit quite a few times.
Motion mines because a SL should be able to have any person in his squad come in engineer... and engineers without motion mines are almost as worthless as medics without defibs. Unlike most other classes, it's important to be able to have people go engineer at any point to deal with armor... and sometimes you'll be the only dead body in the squad.
After that, personal preference will probably come in, but my suggestions:
4. SAB boots (this boost is actually pretty big and along the way you'll get an extra nade. the extra clip is basically worthless for everything except the engineer)
5. Netbat vehicle ID (obvious reasons)
6. Clark (because it sounds like you'd like to specialize in support and if you're in a squad doing close quarters, it's way better. Also doing this gets you the advanced ammo hub which is nice)
7. Voss (for rounds on EU because it's far superior to the SCAR... and on PAC if you end up liking the big clip though I prefer the krylov)
8. Advanced Rocket Magazine (no need to do this before now. while rockets are arguably the best weapon in the game, you should be able to do almost all your damage with the first 3 rockets. the fourth is icing if you're going support the majority of the time).
And that should last you a while. But I think that order makes a lot of sense if you're finding yourself goings support a lot. You might up Voss on the list if you find your SLs are asking you to go medic a lot.
I disagree with anyone who says get the Baur above the ones I've stated. In my mind it's an inferior gun for all but very very particular jobs. Either way though, the Baur takes time and patience to use very well, and the Voss is immediately accessible as a weapon for everyone. Don't waste your unlocks getting the Baur early (as I did way back when). Getting the Voss for EU will be more valuable than the +1 rocket.

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
IDS, Extra Rocket, remaining player unlocks (maybe this before rocket), then all engi unlocks if you want to play that class (the big clip makes a huge difference) or get the shotgun. If for some reason you're not liking the default assault rifle you could try the voss.
The addtional player unlocks are very handy (well extra 'nade and boots anyway).

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
The rocket is appealing, but generally speaking, if you're using rockets well, 3 does the job (2 really). That's not to say I haven't gotten a great number of kills from the fourth rocket, but we're prioritizing here. I'd take the Voss with 3 rockets over the SCAR/Baur with 4 any day of the week. I suspect I am not alone in this.
I looked up some people who I respect in terms of their play. I'm not well acquainted enough with many of the newer players for the most part, so I just picked those who are still around who I know. No one I looked up had a lower than 1.4 KDR, although for the vast majority of players, their KDR listed is much lower than their average now.
The following are people's favorite weapons overall:
Zhohar - Voss
Crux - Krylov, Voss (new account, old account)
Lyramion - Voss
Spiff - Voss
Frozen Inferno - Baur
Pedestrian - Voss
A small sample size, I admit, but I think it's still illustrative. Of the 6 I looked up, only one had the Baur as their top weapon.
Anyway, my point isn't that the Baur is "bad" or that people shouldn't use it. My point is that when it comes to prioritizing your unlocks, the Voss should come first.

Re: If you could go back in time... [unlock discussion]
I also have the Baur as my top weapon. Not that I can't use the other weapons, I prefer the Baur over others
