TG Tags, There is no "I" in TG!
Yup, number of new members using "I" in tags again, please read this quote and fix them for uniform look to the rest of the members. This is FAQ number 10.
10: How do I add the |TG| tags in BF2142?
In BF2142, adding tags is easy as pie compared to older games where it proved to be a tad harder. With TG tags, our standrad format is 1 line, TG, then 1 more line. |TG|. In-house Squads format is one line, TG, Dash, IHS#, then one line. |TG-1st|.
Easy as pie is one thing, but adding lines is a tad tricky for some. As the lines don't apper in the Tag box when we select our soldier. Even though they don't apear, you can still type it in and they will register. Sometimes it works and sometimes you have to play around a bit to get it to place correctly. If that fails there is one last way to place it that always works. It's a few more steps but only takes 3 minutes.
- Open up Windows Explorer, your Terminal, or whatever file browser you may be using.
- Navigate over to your "My Documents" folder (Default: C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\).
- Navigate into \Battlefield 2142\Profiles\.
- Open up Global.com using any text editor (Notepad will do).
- There should be a line that contains the GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix command. Usually, this will be the second line in the file.
- Whatever is in between the two double quotes following this command will be your prefix. Edit it to your desire. (Example: GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix "|TG|")
- Save the file (File -> Save), and exit out of your text editor.
- That's it, you're done! The next time you login to BF2142, you should now have the correct prefix. Note that if the changes are made while BF2142 is open, it will NOT work. You must have BF2142 closed.
This method can also be used if your prefix gets "stuck" and you can't change it for one reason or another. Just edit the file and put in what you what. The soldier formerly known as, Eroak.

Re: TG Tags, There is no "I" in TG!
Goodness. I didn't think we needed to rehash this yet again. The "|" key is right above Enter/Return. Just hold down shift and press it. It won't show up as a ASCII character in 2142's tag field but it shows up in game.
I'm still seeing more people use brackets "[]" instead of "|". Ironically, there is a clan in 2142 called TheGathering which happens to share the same two letters with TG.
Anyways, nice write up Eroak.
Maybe we should sticky this?

Re: TG Tags, There is no "I" in TG!
Plenty of groups with "TG." I know I joined a TF2 server run by a community called "Trashed Gamers" who wears \TG/ and I got yelled at for wearing the tags wrong.
It turned out to be a pleasant conversation. Seriously.

Re: TG Tags, There is no "I" in TG!
Also a note, you are not allowed on TG servers to have more than one tag in your name.
For instance, I always use my clan tag [SF], but today I thought I would add the |TG| in my tag, because frankly (no offense to anyone), people with the TG tag sometimes get included in things others don't (for instance, a gunship squad made by a pubbie. He invites "TG'ers" because he knows they are good). You have quite a name for yourself!

Well, Penguin, either you're with us or you're not. Using the tags as just a fake status symbol is something that is disrespectful to the community. I know you didn't mean harm, but if you were wondering why you were asked to change your tags, that is why.

bump
Can we get a sticky on this so its easier to find? I'm looking at who is in the server right now and I see two people wearing ITGI tags...
Actually on second thought, maybe not that. But I think we all should not be afraid to tell a person that their tags are wrong, because it's disrespectful - if you're going to wear the tag, at least wear it right.¡Together Everyone Achieves More!

Penguin,
You can still wear your clan tag and not wear the TG tag. You are regular on the server and follow the TG SOP's. There are other examples of other clans/communities who do the same. MG and F are two that come to mind. If you are in teamspeak and you want to join an asset squad, ask to be invited. There are instances when I create a gunship squad and I don't know who would like to be a gunner for me.

Good write up!
You can also duplicate the "|" by holding ALT while pressing the 1, 2, and 4 keys on the NUM pad.

What's so wrong about typing the pipe in the clan tag? It doesn't show up in the clan tag, but ingame, it does.

Re: TG Tags, There is no "I" in TG!
Thanks for the responses guys. I didn't know at the time I would get this off-topic as much as I did.

Anyways, thanks, but since I don't have a mic, I am a lot of times in Teamspeak, but most people don't check the "Text message to Channel" messages while in-game.
In regards to LordKelvin, I am part of this community, and part of a clan. I was just searching for clarification. Thank you.

Re: TG Tags, There is no "I" in TG!
I've been pestering people about this in-game recently, mainly because I started to occasionally when I saw this thread and happened to notice their names in-game. But then I'd see the same people again and again with i's or brackets so I started looking for them and telling them each time - there's more than one every day I swear.
Although occasionally I hear someone else telling a person via VOIP about the tags, that can only be done when you're in the same squad and I'm darn sure people are not doing that often enough - so I type it out in chat. But I don't like seeming like the only person doing it.
I even heard someone say they like the i 's once, I told him no-one else uses them and it kinda just looks like he can't spell. If it were a word, that's what you'd call it. But I know some people arn't familiar with the key, so I'll tell them it's on the forums if using VOIP, or if they ask in chat.
Anyway, please can more people do this
if you do it whenever you squad with them it would solve the problem since they have to squad up to play. Don't say nothing.
