Re: Give me your favorite Knifing or WTF moments.
Just had another one today. We only had EU base left and I was Squad Leading. I saw a whole squad clustered around the building South of Ruins. I ran along the second floor catwalk and through the building, hopped down, peeked around the corner. They were ALL fixed on their enemies at the back of EU base.
Like a ninja I crept up to them, pausing behind each pillar as I went. Shink shink shink shink shink 5 of them went down, my squadmate had just spawned with a shottie and took the last one out. It was GLORIOUS!
Unfortunately they had a beacon I didn't notice and all 6 spawned in seconds later... and they were MAD!

Re: Give me your favorite Knifing or WTF moments.
Had a great one today.
16 player Verdun, Inf Only Monday. There's this one PAC soldier in a bombed out house that keeps popping up and lobbing grenades and bullets at my squad defending Hillside. Finally, we get fed up, and storm the building. He Vossaraptors 3 of my squadmates, grenades the fourth and has a Herzog attachment battle with me. I escape around a corner with 20 health. He goes prone, and lo and behold the very tip of his foot is sticking out. Hm. I try my last Herzog shot on it... nothing. Out comes the knife. Slash once, nothing. Slash twice, nothing. Slash three times... and his foot rotates just a bit further and I get the kill. Sorry Mr. Death Dealer, new tags for moi.

This pretty much sums up my feelings about knifing
As far as WTF moments go: Zhohar killed me in my FAV with RDX from beyond the grave!

Re: Give me your favorite Knifing or WTF moments.
I saw someone today who was taking their own buggy from inner bridge and putting it next to one of our bases and leaving it there with an rdx hidden on it. Then when an enemy squad got in to go somewhere, he would blow it up. lol.

Re: Give me your favorite Knifing or WTF moments.
Hmm, everyone here seems to be either black or white as to what they think of the knife. To me, there are moments when the knife is ideal for close-range combat which doesn't alert enemies nearby farther than 5 meters. For example you see a lone sniper watching over Roadblock on Berlin on the second floor of the building seperating Roadblock and Crossroads. You go in the building, up the stairs and knife him, knowing that he doesn't pose a very big threat to you with his rifle.
What I think is you shouldn't knife who could easily kill you if you missed or they noticed you before you could complete the shanking. Otherwise your just asking for trouble.

Re: Give me your favorite Knifing or WTF moments.
Deterhek, I agree completely but was afraid of derailing the thread so I didn't mention it. However, since you started it...
I think the knife is a greatly underrated weapon. Guaranteed (as much as anything can be guaranteed in 2142) one-hit kill with unlimited ammunition that you can do while sprinting? It's perfect for countering enemy mass-revives. I also use it any time I'm chasing someone up a ladder. Stand at the base of the ladder, aim up, hit attack, and jump. It's far safer than firing at them and giving them the chance to jump off and fight back.
I also prefer it if I get the jump on large numbers of enemies. The simple fact is if you've mastered how to move and knife at the same time, it's considerably (up to twice as fast depending on the situation) faster than using a gun, as well as quieter. The game gives you a knife and it's a very powerful weapon indeed. I'm not a knife addict or anything, but I think everyone should learn the ideal times to use the knife and also master how to use it. Frankly I think people that completely eschew the knife are crippling themselves.
I will finish with this closing thought: Rambo was the ultimate tactical fighter, and he used a knife. Be like Rambo.
(p.s. before anyone brings it up, Rambo totally wasn't a lone wolfer unless he had no other choice, Rambo is the ideal soldier!)

Except that when you kill them, they instantly have a little cross on their map of where someone just died, and therefore may see you running away from your crime.
I knife someone in the back, as any gentleman would if I'm fairly sure they aren't likely to turn on me with a shotgun. So snipers or engies zoomed in to take a shot are perfect targets. If someone is moving, I'm not going to chase them, I'll simply.... (Watch vid above)
My favorite WTF moment is still being chased by 2 gunships and a tank in the back of an FAV and somehow not dying.
Watch it here *Sorry for low quality, but I was fairly new to TG and Fraps at the time, and didn't grab a Battlerecorder file either.. D'oh!

Personally when I get the jump on long numbers of enemies I spot them and wait for my squad to come to me and we kill them together. That way 1) All the enemies die. 2) None of the enemies get revived. 3) I don't die (or if I do I get promptly revived). Of course there is the downside of me not getting those 2 tasty dog-tags before the rest of the filled me with shotgun shells.
In theory your points are valid, but in the TG environment it is not at all practical and will never work. So some advice, if your alone and you see 5 enemies in front of you... spot them, throw a 'nade at them, then run (<-- fixed because Jazy is absolutely right )
I don't have any good knifing moments...but I have plenty of good moments of killing people that are trying to kill me with knives.
The first NS map I ever played (don't even remember which one it was haha ) I was being attacked by cloaked snipers with knives every other second. I must have gotten 10 kills from people trying to knife me... Krylov>knife

JUst look at this. I think I'm curse with tank.
I never thought it was possible to put a PAC tank on it's side and for it to stay like that and blow up...

Sorry but I just don't agree with this. Even if you do die, it's better to weaken the opposing force for when your squad does arrive. Again, obviously situational. If for example, I'm all alone in the middle of nowhere and come across a big squad, I won't engage at all let alone with the knife. I'd never do it if I was far away either, I'd just run (or 'nade as you said). But if they're in range, why not tip the odds in favor of your squad instead of making them face an equal or superior force?

I don't want to derail this thread anymore so I'll agree to disagree however just a parting thought. If you are going to weaken them as you say why not simply use your gun? Unless you are really terrible you should at least get two of them and then you still have a chance to run, with the knife you are done for and you will be lucky to get two of them.
