Quality test...
Quality test lacks Quality.
WTH?! Wegame to record (which is starting to get on my nerves), Vegas for editing/rendering into MP4 @1280x720 as suggested by Silver and holy crikey it looks even worse in HD than it does in SD! It looks as bad as my Windows Movie Maker videos!

Re: Quality test...
I think I have an idea of what happened. Looks like Vegas defaults to 512kbit for the video stream. I didn't up it. I hop over to wmv for the presets and it has it at 6mbit. Tad difference.

Re: Quality test...
LOL, a TAD difference? Wow, I've downloaded things faster than that video is spitting bits....

Re: Quality test...
FRAPS + Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 + DivX Converter = lovely.
This is what Zho feels like while using C4 and USAS-12: link.

Re: Quality test...
Yeah, just a tad. Here's the 4Mbit version. Much cleaner.

Re: Quality test...
If you have good gear - record it in Fraps. While WeGame is good and saves you performance and space - Fraps is lossless for quality.
Also try upping the stream quality more. Youtube will convert it down anyway. So you could as well push as many MB on them as possible

Re: Quality test...
The video quality for Wegame is not the problem. The fact that it randomly gives LOUD burst of static in the middle of the recording is what is driving me batty. That and this constant clicking on the audio.
Fraps doesn't seem to work. I've got 2.9.8 and PB throws me out of servers because of it. Of course last night TG's PR PB tossed me out for having Wegame turned on. :/ Fraps also seems to be really bad on performance for some reason. When I tried Frapsing BF2142 it went from my perfectly smooth gameplay down to high-teens FPS w/jerks while recording. If I can get it to record w/o PB throwing a fit (find an old version, maybe?) I'll give it another try with some different settings.

Re: Quality test...
Newer version is what u need.. Older version did have a problem.
WeGame did that to me, and Fraps is perfect. No problems. You should specify your FPS instead of letting it choose, but then if your disk/processor is slow, you may suffer.. Depends on PC spec

Re: Quality test...
There's newer than 2.9.8?

I did, set it to 25 which should suffice for what will eventually filter down into SWF videos. As for my machine's spec, just built a new box w/an AMD Phenom 9950 Quad core & MSI GeForce 265 w/896Mb video RAM. So far there hasn't been anything I've thrown at this machine at max settings it doesn't peg to 60fps except when Fraps is running. You should specify your FPS instead of letting it choose, but then if your disk/processor is slow, you may suffer.. Re: Quality test...
Fraps pushes down your game Framerate to what you have set. So if you want more game speed you also need to record more frames

Re: Quality test...
I forget the versions, but the latest shouldn't have PB issues..
As Lyra says, if you record at 25 FPS, you will see 25 FPS as you play. I record at 30FPS and it's sometimes annoying to play at that rate, when normally the game runs at 100 FPS.I did, set it to 25 which should suffice for what will eventually filter down into SWF videos. Your PC sounds like a good spec. Do you have a fast HD?

Re: Quality test...
Well, that's just silly. :/
Double checked before I asked, latest version on the Fraps site, 2.9.8.
I unno. Came from my old machine. Friend gave it to my wife for her birthday present and I got it because she didn't have SATA on her MB and I did. No clue about its specs other than size which is way toooo smalllll.Your PC sounds like a good spec. Do you have a fast HD?

Re: Quality test...
miscellaneous comments ...
quality test 2 is way better and looks good in normal and great in HD
as you see now its the res you upload in that triggers the widescreen eg 1280*720
your upload mp4 at 4mbs is good, I use 4.2mbs, the higher the better and youtube will cut it down anyway, its just a trade of of filesize to upload time
my exact procedure is;
I play as 2142 at res 1280*720
I capture in wegame at high res mode which turns out to be res 1024*576
I edit in Vegas v6 and edit out the loud static with other background sounds
I render in wmv res 1280*720 (my older version of vegas v6 does a poor job of rendering to mp4)
I convert wmv file to mp4 in mediacoder (free) at bit rate of 4200 and at double pass, it outputs at same res as input ie 1280*720
I upload to youtube and have nice crisp normal quality and great HD widescreen
There is an older version of fraps that PB will kick for, the up to date version is PB friendly, free updates on versions for life from fraps website
I also get kicked form PR by PB for wegame
edit
I just watched you video again and realised you were in 4:3
to fill out in widescreen you need to record in 16:9, you do that by playing in 1280*720 widescreen
copy your desktop short cut and put at the target line the text
+fullscreen 1 +Widescreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 720
so from something like this
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142Launcher.exe" +menu 1
to something like this
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142Launcher.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +Widescreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 720

Re: Quality test...
Thanks, was wondering how you got widescreen out of that. Wonder if it'll go to 1680x1050 .

Also all of you were right. Reinstalled my Fraps 2.9.8 and recorded a good 20 minutes of BF2142 goodness, no PB warnings. Wierd that I got it before. Sounds are quieter when Fraps is in the mix, no idea why, but the quality in the video is loads better. And I bumped it up to 30fps and was able to play. Just as an aside when I checked the frames prior to starting to record I was getting close to 90 on Tunis Harbor.
One other question, how do you get the third person footage. I know that's from the battle recorder but that is server side, right? Access only to certain people?
