Re: Bunnyhopping
Huh, no mention of ferrets? *hides his furkid's eyes*
Anyway you know what boggles me more than anything? Bunnyhopping has been a problem, at least to my awareness, as far back as the original CS. It was finally killed in, what, 1.4, 1.5? *goes to the Google oracle* 1.4, released March 24, 2002. 7 @%@$ing years ago. And yet most FPS that have come out since that are supposed to be edging towards realism and modern arms/tactics seems to have to relearn the same lesson over and over again. *sigh*
Anyway, minirant, sorry, off to review the FAQ.

Well, in CSS you still have crack jumping. Not full on bunny hopping, but still jumping to avoid fire or grenade splash damage.

True. Of course when I first read about no bunny-hopping here on TG I couldn't help but think (and almost post) that what they're doing isn't bunny-hopping per se. But I've come to realize that the term has morph since its roots. Kinda like the Flintstone's theme song ending phrase meaning something entirely different when it was written vs. now, ya know?
Just to be pedantic for those that don't know, bunny-hopping originally meant the practice of using jump + alternating left/right strafe + forward + a swinging, left-to-right motion of the mouse to move faster than you could just running forward. Had to do with the fact that the game's a math simulation and, as anyone who's taken basic geometry knows, going from 0,0 to 0,1 or 1,0 is 1 unit but going from 0,0 to 1,1 is 1.42 units. So back then hopping wasn't about hit boxes, it was about speed thus the double meaning of bunny.

Re: Bunnyhopping
Ummm... are you completely sure about that? Because that's been known as strafe jumping since I started playing online in '98.

Yup. Regional differences. It's just like how coke/pop/soda all refer to a carbonated beverage in the generic sense depending on where you're living the same is probably happening here. Except, of course, region is replaced with whichever term was used by the FPS culture into which you first were immersed.

Re: Bunnyhopping
If someone reports a hopper to me, I STOP what I am doing and remove him from the server. That is why it is so important to get on Team Speak new guys. I do not always notice the reports in chat and rely on my fellow squad members to call it out.

One more, you can join their squad temporarily and tell them bunnyhopping is not allowed.

Well, if it's a "true" jihad jeep with RDX on it, there's not much room for it "being an accident" so report it definitely.
If you're talking about people who are running buggies over people, then I give a pretty wide berth. They'd have to be going back and forth trying to get people as their primary goal for me to report them. This does happen from time to time (some of the awards encourage it, for better or worse), but it's a very small fraction of the time I die by buggy.
Certainly if they're just passing and it seems like they went a little out of their way by swerving to get me, I'm not going to report it.
In general, if you're in doubt about whether someone has actually broken a rule, I'd say err on the side of giving them the benefit of the doubt unless it's been repeated possible violations. TG can at times descend into needless tattling which taxes the admins (making them less inclined to follow up on real rules violations), clogs TS, and generally makes the server less fun by increasing the whine level.

Bunnies taste good; but when the have rabbies I shoot first and then report them to the battlefield CDC.

Re: Bunnyhopping
I'll make sure to keep my eyes for anyone doing the hop of the bunny.
I hate it when I am the "culprit." What I mean by this is that there have been occasions when I havn't played the game in a while where someone will pop around the corner and startle me. As I quickly try to hit my comm button to inform the squad of the attacker and I accidently hit the jump button. After that I just stand still and let my attacker kill me as compensation for my mistake. That is always so embarrasing.

Re: Bunnyhopping
Well, what is bunny hopping? I don't consider 1 jump every now and again a hop. I've jumped in game some times because in certain positions and situations for some reason my natural reaction is to jump. Like if I am crouching or prone I often tap the jump button to get up (works in multiple games). Or if I am thinking of my route and I have someplace I need to jump and get hit right then, I might jump because my brain was on "gotta jump over that low wall there."
