Re: Bunnyhopping
Haha, one time I accidentally bunnyhopped here on TG. It was on carebear, and I was headed towards my SL to meet up with him after the rest of the squad had been taken out. I see two red dots on my minimap heading straight for me, so I assume they see me. I take refuge behind a car near roadblock, and I decide to out-maneuver them. I planned to drop a frag and lure them into running into it, but i missed my frag key, panicked, and smashed wildly at it as they came around the corner. Well, I hit space, and did a textbook bunnyhop-to-avoid-fire. I'm like crap, crap, crap, I didn't mean to bunnyhop, but my survival instinct was still intact. I sprinted around the side, and dropped a 'nade, then doubled back as it blew up. I see "you killed xpriment626" and "you killed (sorry I forgot your name)". Then my game froze, and I saw at the bottom PB: Important Kicking XXXDemon007 Bunnyhopping [Admin Decision]. My frags are assigned to alt, right next to space, and in my panic, I hit space. Sorry experiment. I encourage this imediate kicking though, the rules are posted in CAPS on the server load screen. I changed my keymap btw

Or if I am thinking of my route and I have someplace I need to jump and get hit right then, I might jump because my brain was on "gotta jump over that low wall there."

Those are ok... its jumping to avoid fire. like your getting shot at and so you jump up and down until you get to some cover....

You want to be careful with that, if you are out in the open with no cover around then one hop is still a bunny-hop. However if you are jumping to get behind cover such as diving around a corner or jump-prone over a wall.

Re: Bunnyhopping
Jumping to navigate terrain or increase the range of a toss is fine, jumping to avoid fire, either actual or anticipated, is not.
And attempting to jump over oncoming buggies is A-OK in my book.

Re: Bunnyhopping
as I have understood it, bunny hopping is using multiple/continuous jumps, not a single jump. Since TG is supposed to follow, as closely as possible, real world tactics, I think it perfectly reasonable that one would jump out of the way of an incoming rocked or grenade, but more than one jump is exploiting the game physics, as no human being would be able to do that the way the game does, and which we, as TG tag wearers are duty bound not to do.Am I mistaken?
I mean, if no one jumped out of the way of an explosion, the networks would never have been able to show the A-Team in prime time! It would've been blood and body parts everywhere!!

Re: Bunnyhopping
Any jump to avoid fire, actual or anticipated, is a bunny hop regardless of whether or not it is a single hop or a series of hops.

Re: Bunnyhopping
I personally don't do it (ask around), and I have read the rules and guidlines as to the definition of bunnyhopping (of which you have quoted a portion above), but it does seem a bit unrealistic to NOT be allowed to jump out of the way of fire. Especially as the rules state:"Bunny hopping and crack jumping are terms we use to describe ANY jump or series of jumps that you wouldn't see in real-world combat"
I've never been shot at with real bullets or explosives, but I know that when I've done paintball, I have definitely jumped - often- to avoid fire - not just to get behind cover. Once I jumped right over a guy who surprised me by laying behind a barricade, and was able to "shoot" him out (we say "bang" within 10 feet, to avoid injury). My first reaction upon seeing him was simply, jump. I didn't think about it, I just reacted. It was natural. Adrenaline.
However, I would never be able to execute multiple, even-heighted jumps as the game physics allow - and I am pretty fit. I'm not trying to change the rules, but this thread is called "bunnyhopping", so, lets discuss.

Re: Bunnyhopping
My primary question and a common tactic for me that I will cease if need be is I tend to jump into the prone when I come into contact. I'm not trying to jump to avoid fire but staying near cover so often I find myself sometimes reflexively jumping into a prone like I would over a barrier when nothing is nearby. If that is considered bunny hopping here I'll adjust my tactic.
I've always viewed bunny hopping as that ridiculous repeated jumping to try and avoid fire.

Re: Bunnyhopping
If you have further need for explanation use the contact an admin forum, but as Lorax has said twice now "Any jump to avoid fire, actual or anticipated, is a bunny hop regardless of whether or not it is a single hop or a series of hops"
To my understanding this is not a matter of "realism" but I doubt a marine is going to save his life by jumping a foot or two while carrying 80 pounds of gear. Last time I check BF2142 is not real world combat (and I'm quite happy about that).

Re: Bunnyhopping
Not to tangent but I'll throw a little real world exp in just for kicks.
Proper way to enter prone when getting fired at by US Army standard is a push off with the feet(perhaps considered a jump), to hit the ground to the butt of your weapon first to absorb the impact as you land on your forearms and take up a prone unsupported or low crawl position. That's regardless of the gear, but getting those few feet from your jump can save your life.
On the note at hand I'll ensure that I don't bunny hop. No one has said I have yet so I am fairly certain I'm doing well. I just hold down my sprint key all the time.

Re: Bunnyhopping
Yes. Yes. Why bunny hop when you can abuse your soldier to the brink of death from exhaustion?
Interesting tidbit about the bunny hops though. I guess that could be considered as prone-diving to avoid fire though (which I'm not sure qualifies as bunny hopping or not)

Re: Bunnyhopping
no need for explanation, just discussing.. as I said, I don't do it, and have never been accused, I am just asking. and Lorax is quoting/paraphrasig the server rules, as am I, so... since one definition contradicts the other, as proven by real life experience...

If the BF engine would allow you to leap/dive forward then it might be different I imagine. But a body-height jump from standing is open to abuse.

Quoted for complete and utter, albeit very funny, BS.
