Thematic skirmishes
Sometime, I would like to try thematic skirmishes.
One skirmish I had in mind had a theme with preselected kits, where all Squads have at least 1 Recon, Engi, Assault, Support, and 2 freebies.
The goal is to break up the monotony and to further explore how each kit interacts with each other and truly what each kit can provide for a squad.
Who knows? Maybe we'll find important interactions that increase squad longevity and effectiveness.
(edit: hm.. I wish I could change the title)

Re: Thematic schemes
So an Otus with an IDS and PDS on it both and a recon so the entire squad knows absolutely where pretty much everything in the area is at any time?

Re: Thematic schemes
With a recon in the group? Yes=).
But I was thinking going more indepth - something that only playtesting can achieve.
Some SLs might learn recons can provide more than just RDX on the flag.
With a greater density of recons, we'll see more RDX on the flag. But doesn't that mean we would also see more practice in defusing the RDX?
Is it worth replacing a medic with an engineer just for this feat? Probably not. Let's make that SM alot more effective. Perhaps we'll see a lot less "Buggy going to monorail!" because it's mined up.
How does a squad's effectiveness compare when they have every kit as opposed to only two kits? Sure, a standard loadout will crush an 'allkit' loadout, but an 'allkit' loadout has a lot more tools to use at their disposal and therefore can do a lot more to some squads that a standard can't.
If not, and I'm all wrong about this, maybe it can just be for fun? It might feel like we're playing a fresh new game ^^

Re: Thematic schemes
If this is what it is...
The clan mod is a modification of Battlefield 2142. When you play the mod, you won't have any of your unlocked assets, but rather a selected range of unlocks which should fit clan wars perfectly. Note that you will not be able to customize your kit - you will spawn with a selected range of unlocks right away!
Each kit has one or a few unlocks and all kits have the Frag grenade. All players have also been given improved sprint ability.
Ooo, that sounds fun. Much better than, "Let's all create new soldiers and play on fresh footing!"

Re: Thematic schemes
We also occasionally run a "Level 2 Unlocks Night" where the server is set to only allow level 2 unlocks and below, so no rockets, IDS, shotgun, motion mines, etc. I need to put that on my list of to-dos as well...

Re: Thematic skirmishes
I would hope the lvl2 unlocks night would be infantry only, because without motion mines, PDS, pilum, or some other treats the armor would pretty much own the map.

Re: Thematic skirmishes
These all sound like they would be great to play on. It would be nice to not have rockets raining down on you constantly.... (will frags be unlcokked there too??)

Interesting concept. I've thought about that too. Would it separate the "skill" players from those who act in a reckless manner knowing they will be revived?
Playing on a pubbie server would accomplish this task wouldn't it?

Playing on a pub server would show what the game is like without defibs, yes, but I think it would be interesting to see what tactical play would look like without defibs. Would squads stick closer together knowing that merely being in revive range doesn't do any good? I think strategies would look a lot different.

Re: Thematic skirmishes
revives are pretty pivotal in my strategies, I know that for sure. I am always calling for so and so to be revived lol! A no revive night would definately be interesting. It would be like 1942 all over again

I have tried to find a good clanmod server multiple times, only to (once) find a server populated with two people having a gunship duel...
