Re: Not a NS owner?
Lolol. I fanatically support Macs, if that's what he means.
I too lament the lack of NS. But... I just hope against hope that BF3 will make up for the shortcomings of BF2142.

Re: Not a NS owner?
Unless it is set in 2142 I doubt it will. Part of the charm of 2142 is the near future setting where they can edge away from realism more and into interesting (and unrealistic) game mechanics. For me if I am going to play a modern warfare proxy it will be one that is far more realistic than DICE will ever make BF3.

LOLOL. That was great Lyra! I've used Windows platforms for as long as I've had computers and I would never want to go to macs. I had a friend tell me once that "Apples are for eating and Macs are for hauling freight"

I think the mail was hit on the head about the money issue. There are other things taking up developers time and I don;t think 2142 is a big enough revenue generator to warrant further work.....that said, they are making a map for it.....very odd.

Re: Not a NS owner?
Personal choice.
PC users like PCs.
Mac users like Macs.
It's not gonna change and there's nothing to discuss

Re: Not a NS owner?
Didn't it take them three years to port BF2 and around two for 2142? NS should be available for Mac in another two years then.

Re: Not a NS owner?
BF2 was never ported officially. It's not difficult to port games (not that I know how). There's a site online whose members make unofficial ports of windows games to mac. Some don't work, but most do. Lately I've been playing the original OFP on my mac which is a nice sight. Unofficial ports for BF2 are out there as well.
Aspyr, the company behind the COD ports have apparently moved away from ports, but they knew how to do it properly. In Order to Dance

Re: Not an NS owner?
At first I could see the logic in this. After some thought, however, I think that if that is the case it is short-sighted and foolish of them. While it is true that BF2142 itself may not be a huge revenue generator shafting the Mac players only sullies their name on future titles.
Quite honestly if I were a Mac player and they came out with another BF2142 game (BF2143 anyone?) and there was a Mac port of it I would be reluctant to purchase it out of fear of it being similarly unsupported in terms of future expansions. Heck, it wouldn't be just in the BF2142 franchise or the BF in general franchise. BF3 on the Mac? What about the expansions? Heck, even PC players can, and should, take suck lack of regard for their customer into consideration.
So while it may not generate them revenue right now it increases the possibility of revenue in the future. It is as if they are completely unaware of the concept of Brand Recognition.Last edited by Greyed; 07-14-2009 at 05:24 AM. Reason: Title grammar fix, no, really.

Re: Not a NS owner?
Yeah, I'm likely to be buying the PC version of whatever new game is worth it, because I know they won't support Mac natively....

Re: Not a NS owner?
Wow i didn't know we had so many MAC players around even!
I use linux for my day to day stuff to avoid Windows as well, but when i need to game it's back to Windows. Emulating some of it is offcourse possible, but it's just so much hassle i don't bother and just start up Vista.

Re: Not a NS owner?
Hell, we should make our own expansion... (for macs!) but yea from what im hearing... DICE is being very inconsiderate and it upsets me. Recently, and im sure you all know this. They go ahead and make a new patch for 2142, Low and behold. A new map!!!! They totally disregard everything people have been complaining about. Macs are buyers of their games too. 'We have no plans of improving 2142 or making a NS for macs at this time' MY ASS! sorry, but they should be able to make a Northern Strike for mac if they are making patches for 2142 every 11 somehthing-odd months. >

Re: Not a NS owner?
It wouldn't be a smart business decision for them so that is probably why they haven't ported NS yet (and probably never will).
