Re: Not a NS owner?
For the people that bought a mac: yes it is nice and fashionable but a gaming rig it is not, you should have known that when you paid way too much for your hardware.

Re: Not a NS owner?
When people ask me why I use a Mac, I usually just tell them one thing.
Viruses.

Re: Not a NS owner?
But that's because hackers usually only make viruses for windows since it is installed on the majority of machines. There is nothing in the coding of the OS that fights off and destroys viruses. If macs were as mainstream as windows and worth the effort of hackers to make viruses for them, you guys would be in trouble to.
The chances of them making a version of NS is very slim, it's a small corner of a market to an older game. They probably don't consider it cost effective to release the extra stuff for macs.

Re: Not a NS owner?
I think people have a backlash against Macs because of the ridiculous self-righteousness than mac users many times have. It's furthered by those annoying I'm a Mac ads.
As for viruses, I haven't had a virus on my computer for the past seven years. I've had to replace batteries, reformat my computer, etc. (which, by the by, Mac users are NOT immune to, despite protestations to the contrary), but viruses are such a minor problem if you use an anti-virus program and aren't stupid about what you download and install.
---
Anyway, the point has been made: while it'd be nice if DICE made NS for Macs, it ain't going to happen. What would make that a profitable use of their time? 2142 isn't gaining many new customers, and few of them use Macs.
Mac users should probably not feel entitled to it. You knew the risks when you bought your computer; you traded a computer that can play all your games for a smug sense of superiority. It all depends on how much you value the former and latter on whether this was a good deal.

Re: Not a NS owner?
It's easier than PC to use and operate. The programs are so much easier for photo editing, video, podcasting, email, the list goes on and on. Sure, it took some time to adjust to initially, but well worth the time investment. The Mac's answer to multimedia is far and beyond (IMO) superior to PC.
I personally don't game on a Mac...that would be just plain silly!

Re: Not a NS owner?
I use macs a fair amount as my girlfriend uses them for her editing so her personal comp is a mac. I'm well versed in the Mac OS. I think the myth that the Mac OS is "easier" than Windows is one that persists from a time now gone by. That's not to say there aren't some things to like about it, but on the whole I don't see the mac OS as easier to use.
email? nothing is easier or better than gmail, and that works on both systems pretty much exactly the same.
I do like the Mac Calendar program.
multimedia I'll grant though I have little personal knowledge. I just know that there's a reason why the vast majority of professionals use macs.

Re: Not a NS owner?
Well please keep in mind that patch 1.51 should come out sometime which should improve 2142.
As usual Zoraster has put things down in the correct manner, I too have also not had any sort of issue with virus or malware since I built my PC 3 years ago.Reapator, overlord of ponies

Re: Not a NS owner?
It is still pretty funny when my Mac gets attacked by a virus coded for Windows and fails epicly at doing any sort of harm, instead doing harmless if somewhat annoying things such as popping up text documents full of incomprehensible gibberish.
EDIT: I forgot to add that I dislike Windows mainly because of its absolutely bewlidering setup wizards and tens of layers of drop-down menus. *shudder*
Also, while I lament not having NS, I can get the unlocks via field unlock so its not completely debilitating. I can stand a few less maps because at least I can be fairly sure that my computer will not be acting up during the game just because the OS suddenly decided it needs to index the entire C drive or absolutely NEEDS to update some random program I never use like Windows Media Player or something.

Why I hate macs. (And yes I have used them professionally for several years.) While they have a few nice things when it comes to video editing, overall anything you can do on a mac you can do on a PC, but you sure as hell cannot game on a Mac.
As for viruses, while there may not be as many for the mac, they do exist. To say otherwise is nothing but a fairy tail.
