Not a NS owner?
Alot of people here have mac of course, and TG sometimes likes to put in NS maps and EA was stupid enough to not even consider making a NS version for Mac. What do you have to say about it? Maybe we can ban together and try and get EA to do something about it.

Re: Not a NS owner?
At this point, I don't think their is much we can do about it that nobody has tried before. But you folks who don't have NS, maybe you should get together on another server when NS maps are running, at least you're not gonna be alone on your own.

Re: Not a NS owner?
true, but TG server is like the only fun server i go on, and i think if we get alot of people together we can get EA to make a NS version for the mac. Mac's are a Battlfield buyer, its very inconsiderate at it makes me extreamly angry that there are people who have tried but get this automated message that says they have no plans of making a NS version for the mac.

Re: Not a NS owner?
What about running your Battlefield game through a Windows installation through Boot Camp or whatever the program is called?

Re: Not a NS owner?
I am a mac user and hate EA games with a passion for how they've screwed up the mac version for so long. Not being able to play NS or get the upgrades is very annoying. I'm dreading already the release of BF 1943 or whatever the next version of BF is that is coming out, because I know all you PC users will be off to the next version and I'll be here left alone

edit: Oh, and as for bootcamp, don't take this the wrong way, but I sold my PCs and moved to Mac 3 years ago specifically so I would never have to see the windows screen again. As much as I like TG and BF, I don't love it enough to install windows again. Please don't take that the wrong way, but I used PCs for 25 years before switching to Mac, I've suffered enough
If I could play it with parallels, that would be ok, but no way I'm closing out all my photoshop and other work that I always have laying around open just to play a game. It's too much hassle.

Re: Not a NS owner?
Don't take this the wrong way mac users, but if you are into gaming, you really shouldn't be using macs. I can understand using macs for work or just browsing/watching movies but when it comes to pc gaming, macs pale in comparison to pc's.

Re: Not a NS owner?
Bootcamp is exactly what I have. When my family got our new IMac I thought, oh wait, Macs don't play games well at all, but the new Leopard version of Mac has Bootcamp ready to install (its a feature I'm sure but past that I can't help on instalation). All you need is the Windows XP/Vista service pack 2 in order to start up Windows, and then you can just play BF2142 and change back to Mac for your everyday use. Works like a charm.

Re: Not a NS owner?
And as a Linux user I can lend a tad bit of weight to this. Everything else I do is in Linux, everything. But games, I still have XP on my machine for gaming because until the companies get their heads out of their collective arses one has to submit to the Windows Tax or confine oneself to consoles. Given the type of games I enjoy playing confining myself to a console isn't an option.
Besides, it isn't like you don't have the option. I'd sure love to give OSX a try but can I do that on my brand new machine? Na-ope!
I can only hope Valve's recent job postings mean what they appear to mean.

Tried several times, didn't work too well. :/

Re: Not a NS owner?
Hate to double post but, this really is something unrelated to my previous responses.
I really don't get why DICE* doesn't release a Mac version of NS. I decided to do some quick searches to see if there was any explanation as to why they don't. What I found was far more interesting than I originally envisioned.
I stumbled across this article which states EA will be using Transgaming's Cider to port games to the Mac. What makes it interesting is that Cider is essentially WINE for the Mac. Yes, Mac boys and girls, you're playing the PC version of BF2142 through a compatibility layer. Which means there is very little reason as to why they can't do the same for NS since they're not writing for the Mac at all, they're just ensuring that it works with the compatibility layer.
I am at a loss as to why they don't do this.
* - Yes, DICE. Remember, DICE is the developer, EA is the publisher. So blaming EA for all the ills of BF is disingenuous. My understanding would be that it is up to DICE to ensure BF2142:NS played nicely with Cider since they are the people who actually dig in the code.

Re: Not a NS owner?
I dislike windows more than I like gaming, so I'll give up the latter before I restart the former. But mac is certainly not a strong gaming platform, you are correct.
As for the game, yes we are playing the exact same game in a cider port (which slows our performance vs.a true mac coded game, btw) and there is no reason they couldn't have ported NS the same way. EA support is horrific for mac.

Re: Not a NS owner?
We did just that yesterday
We should get all the non-NS players onto each other's buddy list.
Pub raids FTW!
And you guys are right, there doesn't seem to be much we can do, well, except to run the game in Windows on bootcamp, but that comes down to personal choice.
BF2142 is probably too old a game (= no new/big profits) for EA to even bother with a NS port. It's all about the money
