Armor only and infantry only nights, the new and improved thread
Often people are all like "I LOVE ARMOR MAP!" & "ARMOR MAP IS GREAT AND TACTICAL!"
But at the same time.... WHERE do you see those people in those maps?
- Gunships
- Tanks
nuff said....
Itīs not like they make a freaking Squad and show people the tacticallness & epicness of their hugh maps. They lonewolf around in tanks and are happy about it. yay armor awesome. While 60% of the team is banned to be the targets of their armor fetish.

Re: You make the rotation
May I suggest a poll to determine the proportion of TG bf2142 players who prefer infantry style maps vs. those who prefer armor oriented maps. I am sure there are larger player numbers that prefer infantry maps. I would just like to see the breakdown of where TG players stand. Personally, If there are fewer armor maps with gunship assets its no big deal. There are plenty of titan servers where I can fly.

I do not know how to initiate a forum poll. I would appreciate someone doing it or letting me know how to do it.

Re: You make the rotation
Only moderators can start polls, I think. If they're not going to let you edit your post, do you think they'd let you poll?
Anyway, it might be interesting, but keep in mind that the numbers would (1) not all be SM (2) might not even be the people who play regularly. Still, it'd be interesting...

Re: You make the rotation
If you would like to post a poll, create one in the contact an admin forum and we can move it to the forums for you.
And you can edit your own posts as the post isn't more than a day old.

Re: You make the rotation
The problem with that question is...apart from some people who say they love one and hate the other, the rest of us probably prefer the mix.
Even if we do prefer one to the other, if we were to simply play the maps we like over and over it'd get boring. By including as much as possible as long as you find it O.K. then it breaks up the monotony, you're both less likely to get bored of your favourite maps, and less likely to play each map you don't like (as much) at a given time because it'll take longer to come across it in each large rotation. Just some food for thought, and that was of course the reason they were added into the rotation in the first place.
The same applies for why listening to music on random is good
Of course weed out the maps we ALL hate...but not everyone hates armor maps.

Re: You make the rotation
I actually did a survey a long time ago. Each person got to rank their five favorite maps 1-5. each 1st place map was 5 points, each 5th place was 1 point. It seems like a more balanced way to do it than just "infantry vs. armor" Anyway, jengles, I think we're agreed no one wants an entirely infantry or armor server.

Re: You make the rotation
Agreed. I am a bread and butter infantry gal, but there it is true that you can have too much of a good thing. I don't usually play much on infantry/armor only nights because I love the variety. Yes I like gunships, but even if I am on the the ground, armor maps provide variety. Even everyone that is not an infantry fan can admit to agreeing with that.

Re: You make the rotation
and we certainly do. Which is why I'd like to hear more comments on the actual rotation proposed here. I think it gives an appropriate amount of variety.
In fact, it gives the ability to switch up the rotation (and thus which maps get played more... those at the beginning of the rotation due to crashes) without having to reinvent the wheel each time.

Re: You make the rotation
Hmm if I am not mistaken, one of the admins said that long rotations also tend to make the server crash more often...perhaps that is why our last two weren't that long in terms of map count.

Re: You make the rotation
They certainly could have discovered something since I was admin as this was a long time ago, but I don't recall there being a real connection between crashes and length of a rotation. Certain maps are more likely to crash than others, but I never saw anything that would indicate longer create more. Lots of people have theories on why these things happen, but I don't give credence to many without some fairly solid evidence it's true.
But as I said, I'm sure people have found out more about this game's finicky nature since I was involved.

Re: You make the rotation
Well, I agree to a certain extent. I don't actually expect people to do a statistical analysis of every variable for when the rotation crashes.
But people often become convinced of mere ideas about these types of things. Like, it may make some sense that map rotation would cause more crashes, so they voice it, and after a week or two, it's more than idea... it's WHY it happens... often backed up by one or two events (e.g. a long rotation is put into place and it crashed a couple of times in a three hour period).
Anyway, if maps crashed more on loading, I'd probably be more likely to believe the "longer rotations mean more crashes" theory. But most crashes happen in the middle of a round when the server isn't accessing the map rotation (I shouldn't think). There could, of course, be things going on in the background that I don't know about, but if we're talking ideas against ideas rather than ideas vs. some convincing evidence, then it explains why I have my doubts about the server rotation length leading to more crashes.
