Sad news

I haven't been around that much lately. I found out earlier this week that a once good friend of mine has been killed in Afghanistan by an improvised Explosive Device. I didn't speak to him that often over the past few years but I have many fond memories of the man and I know that my mum loved him like a second son.

He is a hero who regularly went into the front-line with his troops and lead them through some truly hellish situations. He will be remembered and honoured by those who loved him and called him a friend.

You can read about him here - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle6723889.ece

My condolences and deepest sympathies. My brother is over there and I keep dreading the news that this has happened to him. Be sure to polish your memories of him whenever you can. Men like this should never be forgotten.

Re: Sad news

This is the MOD's official article on him - http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/De...fghanistan.htm

By all accounts, he was loved by his men.

I wish your brother the best of luck Nepharyte. With luck, his training will see him through.

Re: Sad news

My condolences DrProctor. Keep him your memories. He died doing something that would keep his troops, troops like mine and many civilians safe. That's a good man.

Re: Sad news

My thoughts go with you and his family. Every day we here of our heroes dying in Afghanistan, more so recently than before from these IED's, but rarely do we see on national news the story behind each soldier - each hero - and how these are normal men fighting for the noblest of causes. For their country.
