    Re: Recon or support

    My logic always triumphs at the end of the day...

    Playing BF2142 as:

    -{SXGr}- J0KerRr

    -{SXGr}- x^DeTeR

    I'm always open for tips, tutorials and training in the gunship while online, just ask :)

    Currently taking a break from MW2, but when I play its as:

    eXileD// DeTeR

    Even if you don't consider that I only have 7 days played in the gunship I'm one of the best pilots in the game

    I will always accept a 1v1, friendly or not

    I think most people forget that situations do come up where having an explosive recon is better than support and that 2142, played TGs way, is as much a game of time as it is tickets. Everyone dismisses tactics that don't net tickets and completely disregard the time those tactics buy. You don't need to get tickets now if the time you buy lets you get those tickets later.

    One good example. Columns on Shingle. RDX 2 levels down will often catch people rushing to the top. Will it net tickets? Probably not. Does it net time? Hell yes, it does. Or you see a squad skulking around the base of columns, drop RDX over the side like depth charges. Will it net tickets? Probably not. Does it net time? Hell yes, it does.

    What does time buy you? Time for more nades to be dropped, more shots to be fired, more ammo to be reloaded, more healing to come in, more revives to come across. Most importantly of all, for those not set in the Rambo mentality (either solo or at the squad level) it allows for reinforcements in the form of spawns, another squad or even members of the same squad who are deployed further forward than they otherwise normally would to get to the flag.

    Is it always appropriate in the TG environment? No. But it is grossly underestimated because most TGers dismiss time as a factor in the equation.

    Yes a Recon with RDX can be useful, especially like you said when defending a flag or a building such as on Belgrade. However that recon is only going to do any good if he has a support with and IDS with him so he can see where the enemies are and also to resupply him, as well as a medic or 4 to revive him when he eats rockets before he can hit that detonator.

    Taking this back to the discussion at hand,

    Recon=useful some of the time.

    Support=useful all of the time.

    Ok... The only time I use recon is for breakthoughs on minsk or FOB, or if I am the SL and am holding Columns on Shingle. I sit on the roof and snipe/spot targets for my teammates to ganz/rocket from afar. My squad nets SO MANY kills doing this that it is completely worth spawning in sniper. I also pack rdx/apms for that occasion to drop off the side of the building, or lay traps on the stairs. The enemy rarely, if ever, is able to cap columns, unless they have supporting fire from command center, or capture the roof.

    Yeah, but that's a pretty damn specific reason to take Recon over Support - if anything steps out of line you fall off the 'tracks'.

    yes, yes it is =)

    Most of the time we don't lose columns though. And if we do, we are all usually dead, and I spawn in something else

    Re: Recon or support

    Well... since you already have two soldier-types unlocked, I'd say play a bit with both and go with what you like doing. Anyone who can read can see that support units will get more use in squad play -- at least in TG squads -- but I play the game for my enjoyment and personally I LOVE sniping. Yea you don't always get your kill right away, yea theres a good chance of your victim getting revived, but that happens with any kit -- especially when you start out. You're not gonna get good at anything unless you try it for a while. Eventually you can get good enough to get the buddy trying to revive too, and then you become a real sniper. On the other hand, the shuko is just straight sexy. Recon and support have to be my two fav soldier-types. You have two kits already unlocked, both of which are used on nearly every map, so just go with what you like man, since you'll always have something to bring to your squad.

    --aside to (Greyed?)-- I'm pretty sure the PAC get better default weapons 'cauz pretty much all their armor is inferior to the EU stuff --
    Good Luck. You're gonna need it ^_^
