The biggest problem area I see on the 2142 servers is during the day, from around 12pm-4pm est. I play almost every day around those times, and while we do report bunnyhoppers, base rapers, and the whole menagerie that is pubbys, it takes an admin (who is either watching chat, not present, or playing another game) quite a while to take those players out, or ban them. Having another admin for the earlier times who is dedicated to 2142 might simplify this process, and cut the reaction time in half.

Okay so where do we stand. Can the 2142 community get a breakdown of admins and time of day they play? Can we actually get the server to have admin on 24/7? If the answer is no - then can we get another system in-place to deal with issues when admin are not around - morning, daytime players that are an issue, map problems, server problems? What can us non-admins to help. I understand we can report it in the forum, we can create lists and report them later, but this does not solve the problem of the a players current game playing issue?

Here's something I've often wondered. If an admin is playing another game, or offline and something is typed into game chat, can they see it? Can they react to it? Is there a way to make that work where a response comes quicker than an admin reviewing the incident at a later time? Often times, a base rapper, bunny hopper, non-responsive SM or whatever can change the dynamics of the game. Just wondering.

If we're running 2142cc, we can see it. Some of us run a program in conjunction with 2142cc that monitors the chat screen and alerts us when certain words or phrases are typed, such as "admin" or "reporting."

On a side note, we rarely get reports in the contact an admin forum these days...

Let's assume that an admin isn't always present or available 1440 minutes of each and every day. What type of system would you suggest?

Do the admins want to see things that happen in the contact the admin forum when admins are not in game? I would think that would be a hassle when people are reporting pubbies or TG members for that matter, constantly in there especially when infractions are put in chat.

I guess what I'm asking is whether the forum is a preference for a bunny hopper or is the chat good enough?

Re: A plea for more Admins

The Battlefield 2142 admins track reports of rule violations made via the Contact an Admin forum as well as from actions taken by various admins.

Whether it's jihad jeeping or bunny hopping, we would like to see any and all violations reported in chat or through the Contact an Admin forum. In chat is great for making quick reports while games are intense. The CoA forum is great for incidents that are serious and require some investigation such as aimbots, repeated suicide tactics, and the like.

We do pull BR footage and review. We do pull server chat logs. We're here more than you might think, but unfortunately not at all times. This is how you can help us keep the server the way we like it.

    Thanks!

Re: A plea for more Admins

To be honest I think that the reason the CaA forum is used so little is because there is not enough value in reporting someone after the fact. The general idea of the role of an admin in game is to remove people as they break the rules, a rapid response in order to not disrupt the round to a great extent. This is even true of in-game chat reports. They often feel like they do nothing because either no one is watching to do anything or the person who reported missed the action the admin took. Now this is not to say that action is not taken but is sure is harder to care when there is no visible benefit.

I'll also take the time to point out that warnings are ineffective for the most part because they are really hard to see. I'm not sure what we could do other than use a larger text size in warnings or something else to the effect of increasing visibility of the warning.

Re: A plea for more Admins

Reporting infractions after the fact in the proper forums gives us the opportunity to stop them from coming back. Yes, we all want instant satisfaction but that just is not possible all the time. Monitoring BFCC I have gotten people minutes after a report for the simple fact that it was on screen. As Damonte said, just because we are not in game it doesn't mean that we are not watching chat or BFCC.
Please report via in chat and for repeat offenders or serious rull breakers....the CaA forum! It does work, many players have not returned due to these procedures.
    Thanx

well i guess the admin job can be a real pain.
just imagine you come home tired from work and you just want to hang out a bit and shoot stuff
and suddenly: "!reporting smacktard007 tk on purpose" etc etc..
i personally wouldn't be able to stand that most of the time and that's why i am not an admin,
but those you can stand that get picked out for the job and as long as there is an almost 24/7 cover of the servers where there is an admin on there is actually no need for more.

Being an admin is a largely thankless job. The people who don't like something you're doing (or not doing) are frequently very loud and incessant. The people who are content generally don't bother saying anything.

System one: Get more Admins. System two: Script for a TG proprietary voting system for kicks and map changes. Sorry to be obtuse as the mentioned is off the cuff. I don't have an answer, your right. But a lot of us are still asking for more Admins. Which I don't believe is a thankless job, I hope the Admins get satisfaction by sustaining such a community, as they sure have mine.

We don't have any way to code this in on a ranked server.

Re: A plea for more Admins

I think the Admins are doing a fine job with policing the server. Guys, we have to realize that there will never be a perfect system because of the way EA set the game up.

In an ideal world the Admins would set up the vote-kick script to be used only by the Supporting Members (like the kick-script that reserves the open spots) because the SMs could be traced back to this forum where as a pubbie would probably not even care about unjustly initiating a kick-vote. That way the SMs could be more proactive in removing problem players and if there was any misuse of power the admins could then investigate and either confirm there was a "just" reason to start a kick-vote against a player or if not then the script would tell the Admins which SM started the kick-vote and punish the SM instead for abuse of power and have their privileges revoked.

However then EA would not allow the server to be ranked..... (at least this is my understanding).
