Save the Date: TG vs. TGW scrimmage (large)

Date: Sunday, October 4th EDIT: Potentially it'll be the 11th.
Time: 3pm EDT (2pm CDT, Noon PDT, 20:00 BST, 21:00 CET)
Be on Teamspeak by: 2pm EDT

Sign up date and time: Sunday, September 12th at 3pm EDT.

    What is this?
All of the details except time and date are still being worked out, but this will be a large-scale scrimmage against Tournament Gaming World. Hopefully the numbers will be 50+ players (at least 25v25)

Tournament Gaming World runs a weekly 2142 match. Many of these are in custom maps that TGW has put together. You can see these maps here. Apparently, they often get 50 players to each of the Sunday matches. Our own match will take place in a two week break for their matches.

Overall, our communities seem to be fairly compatible. However, as in any scrimmage against an outside community, it's important to realize that we cannot expect everyone to play by TG rules. I'll post more on the mutually agreed upon rules, but expect there to be some definite differences. If you are uncomfortable playing with rules that do not exactly line up with TG's, it would be better if you sit this out.

I'll let you know in this thread (and then officially in the signup thread) what all of the details are when I know. I just wanted to get the word out on time and date as soon as possible so anyone who wants to participate can keep that day free on their calendar.

As always, the majority of spots will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis in the signup thread.

    ---
EDIT: Details already agreed on (I THINK anyway):

    Player Count: 30v30
    Rules agreed on:
    1. No suicide tactics like jihad jeeps.
    2. No beacons on inaccessible roofs
    3. Attacking the uncap WILL be allowed.
    4. Bunny hopping will be allowed, but like other scrims, we'll probably expect our own members to refrain from bunny hopping.
    5. Spawn camping is allowed.
Server location: We'll be using theirs as it provides more flexibility (since it is an unranked box). It uses the same service provider (Wolf) and should be up to the task.

Other details will be discussed this Sunday.

Re: Save the Date: TG vs. TGW scrimmage (large)

So I'll tell the story of how this scrimmage came to be:

The last major scrimmage with an outside community that I ran came about after I deliberately looked up some of the largest communities and challenged them to scrimmages. MIA/DIG took the challenge.

This one came about purely by chance. We were testing out the custom maps for BFCL on TGW's server in the BFCL infantry only mega-scrim. The teams were uneven, so I switched to the side with the TGW guys and overheard them say something to the effect of, "yeah, they're good infantry only, but just give us some armor..."

So I said, "well, we'd be happy to do a major scrim in a map with armor." They seemed receptive, and after I followed up with it, it seems like they're interested and this could come off.

Just a word of warning: these things have a way of unraveling even after the most assiduous planning.

Looks like a great challenge, but will non-supporting be allowed to play?

    Playing BF2142 as:

    -{SXGr}- J0KerRr

    -{SXGr}- x^DeTeR

I'm always open for tips, tutorials and training in the gunship while online, just ask :)

Currently taking a break from MW2, but when I play its as:

    eXileD// DeTeR

Even if you don't consider that I only have 7 days played in the gunship I'm one of the best pilots in the game

I will always accept a 1v1, friendly or not

Re: Save the Date: TG vs. TGW scrimmage (large)

Absolutely. The way these usually work is that it's first-come-first-serve, but SMs get priority. So for example if it's a 3 person scrimmage and the following people sign up in this order

    SM 1
    NSM 1
    NSM 2
    NSM 3
    SM 2
    SM 3
    NSM 4
    SM 4

Then the lists would look like this:

    Playing:
    1. SM 1
    2. SM 2
    3. SM 3

    Reserve:
    1. SM 4
    2. NSM 1
    3. NSM 2
    4. NSM 3
    5. NSM 4

Usually at least a couple non-SM will get a chance to play, but they usually play off the reserve list when someone no-shows or has computer trouble. Just make sure you sign up as early as possible and make sure you're on TS for role call (typically 30 minutes before the match).

I've run scrimmages where a NSM really deep in the reserve list has gotten a chance to play.

Thanks for organizing this Zoraster. I'm looking forward to it.

If suggestions are acceptable, let me be the first to put forward Belgrade. I think a lot of us enjoy the map, and I hope it's "armor-ish" enough for TGW.

Do you have any plans on doing full-scale dry runs of the maps? Drills? Just speculation, of course, but almost two months time gives us plenty to plan and get things down pat.

Not to mention that people have been removed from active rosters simply by failing to show up on time and/or for not follow instructions during roll call.

Belgrade is always a lot of fun.

I'd love to do Belgrade as well. I think we may do one stock map and one custom map though. Really it all depends on negotiations with TGW.

As for full-scale dry runs, while this would be nice to do, it's difficult to accomplish given people's schedules, etc. We'll definitely have a detailed (but hopefully not micromanagey) battleplans, but I don't think we can do much more. If some of the SLs want to get together to do something like a dry-run, that'd certainly be okay with me!

Also, I doubt TGW will be doing it, and while I hope we win convincingly, I don't want to so over prepare that it's not fun.

IF we do do a custom map, we'll hopefully at least have one night (preferably two) where we at least play on the new map to give people and idea of what's going on as we'll be at a disadvantage in a map that they've played and we haven't.

Updated original post with some of the details that have (at least in theory) been agreed on already. Other details (such as map, structure of the scrimmage, etc) will be discussed on Sunday morning in a meeting with them. I'll be sure to update you when I know more.

I'll probably sign up if I can get a more stable connection, right now I get awful lag spikes (those of you that find me standing still on the battlefield have probably been the beneficiaries of this).

Re: Save the Date: TG vs. TGW scrimmage (large)

    Afternoon,

This should be a great show. As far as skill level I think that both communities are fairly well matched. As with |TG| squad based play it is the cornerstone of TGW so between both sides the discipline level should be excellent.

Once the powers to be have worked out the details as the General of the EU Army within TGW I will start asking my players to sign up. Seeing as we play ever Sunday I should not need much notice. We are currently in Week 5 of a ten week campiagn so as we start winding down I will start winding the guys up.

This should be a great experience and I hope to see faces I have not seen in a while...

    JJ
