    Quickest way to rankup?

Recently i bought a 2nd copy of 2142, so my dad and i could shoot...i mean play together. So i decided to take the new copy and start over. Big mistake, i miss my unlocks. What do y'all think is the quickest way to rank up? Tactics, server, etc.

Recon or engy won't get you many points but medic (heal & revives) and support (ammo monkey!) will.

    Re: Quickest way to rankup?

Welcome to tacticalgamer! I hope you and your dad consider the 2142 tacticalgamer server for some fun times.
It sucks starting a new soldier.. when everyone else has the best kits available to them. It's unfair to be both inexperienced and ill-equipped.

A great way to great a few unlocks is to get badges. Make sure you get ranked servers. Note that they only count when you don't see text in the middle of the screen similar to "Waiting for 4 players to join". The text is pretty obvious, so if you don't see it and you're in a ranked server, you're ready to start earning ranks.

Here are some easy ways to get some badges:
    Knife only server
Pistols only server (some of them even have trippy low gravity!)
    Sniper only server

    [controversial]
Then spend 10 minutes inside an AA Rorsch or Walker's AA gun.
Then go in a transport, go high, then jump off with a parachute. Must last for 10 seconds.
    [/controversial]

    Reusable source of points:
Titan: Sentry in corridors. You can look online for the method. Personally, I'm not patient enough for the shields to die down.

Do that, and you'll get like, 4-5 ranks.

    Recommended first upgrades:
Defib -> Grenades -> Sprint -> (Whatever kit you want to specialize in. Either assault or support - default to assault if you don't know support)

After you have one solid class unlocked, get stamina.
If you love grenades, continue up until you get 3 grenades then unlock support.
Otherwise, you can go engineer if you feel like it, or go with support. Support has decent point-growth because EMP-locking vehicles yields decent teamwork points.
To EMP-lock a vehicle, you need EMP grenades for support.
As support, find a safe place, throw down your resupply kit, and start tossing EMPs on the vehicle until a teammember destroys it.

Remember you can pick up kits off the ground. This gives you experience with the Baur/Voss, so you know whether or not you want to unlock them right off the bat.

Some people highly prefer the Krylov (PAC default weapon) over the Baur/Voss. So if you start off as PAC, you know you will get a pretty good weapon.
Note the SCAR-11 (EU default weapon) is ok, but you will probably want to pick up a different kit.

While on the tacticalgamer server, one of the best ways to earn points is following your SL's order. On your minimap, it is indicated by a purple line. Killing people, capping the flag, resupplying, reviving, healing, etc near those points yield bonus teamwork points.
It helps when you have a good squad leader, because they understand how the map works and will get the squad working efficiently. If the squad works efficiently, then it's easier to get points.
A good indicator of a good squadleader will wear a TG tag. Some TG players may lock their squads - but don't let that deter you! Sundays, there are LearnTG squads, and some good squadleaders leave their squads open at all times (|TG-128|)

If there are no APC squads, you can rack up kills in the secondary driver's seat (press F2), or even kill assists as the driver for a skilled gunner (press F1).

The knife/pistol servers are actually considered illegal by DICE. A few people had their accounts wiped for using them. Honestly, join a TG squad, unlock your defib, and go to town. Every 8 revives is a bonus 5 and you'll get the medic bronze/silver/gold badges fast.

I played with plenty of fresh soldiers, none of them deleted, using such servers as a way to be not quite so handicapped.

Yeah it's basically stat padding though if it's ranked Fruvous.

Yes, it's stat padding. But honestly?
The game isn't fun if youre both inexperienced and ill-equipped.
I've had two friends buy the game only to never play again simply because of this severe disbalance. I'm simply trying to make the transition easier.

The ethics of statpadding is very different if it's an experienced player doing it.

I think the best way to explain it is, if someone decided to buy Everquest right now. He's the only level 1 character, everyone else is level bajillion (whatever the max level is right now).
Competitively, it's laughable to consider a new lvl1 character as a competent party-member, except after 5-some years when he's finally leveled up to be a mediocre character.
It shouldn't take months/years for a player to interact at the same level as everyone else, especially in a game where competitive player-player interaction is the point of the game

Simply put, if people are dropping out of 2142 (which is already happening), there needs to be support for the few new players coming in. If it doesn't happen, then 2142 will die much sooner. It is much better to expedite competency than to bash your head against a wall until something works, for the newb's sake and the community's sake.

(When I say newb, I mean someone who is new to the game. Not a noob, who.. well.. is generally immature and exploitative)

Yes it is. Every one of us here is a proof of that. If the game wasn't fun when I started out, I wouldn't have stuck with it.

What you don't understand is that I had different expectations when I was a newbie. I didn't walk into BF2142 expecting to be equal to everyone else. I was overjoyed when I managed to kill someone. I ran 4 and 20 KD and I was absolutely exctatic that I had killed 4 people.

Today, I can run 20 and 5 KD and I'll think that a decent round. I have different expectations.

Your argument is flawed because it cruxes on equipment: that the game will be more fun for newbies if each of them had Vosses. That's not true. Things acquired without hard work have no value: I really loved my Voss when I got it because it was so nice after the inaccurate Scarr.
If I'd gotten it right off the bat, I'd expect my next weapon to be so much better.

That's where your stat-padding argument breaks down: if everyone had Vosses, they'd have nothing to work for, look forward to, or be surprised by. And the things they already had, they didn't value because they earned them so cheaply.

I've had two friends buy the game only to never play again simply because of this severe disbalance.
Plenty of people leave a video game because it's not to their liking. Contrary to your implied ideas, making a video game easier will not make it more fun. That only removes value from the people who actually enjoy the game.

The ethics of statpadding is very different if it's an experienced player doing it.
No it's not. It's still an exploit of the game engine, of the way the game is meant to be played, and it provides an unfair advantage. Whether an experienced person does it, or a complete newbie is not relevant at all.

If I were to walk into Everquest right now (a game I've never played), I would expect to take on level 1 mobs ... and to progress accordingly. I would not expect to play with my buddies who are level 120.
And if I didn't enjoy the path to level 120, well then so be it -- I don't like the game, I don't like it.

[b]It shouldn't take months/years for a player to interact at the same level as everyone else, especially in a game where competitive player-player interaction is the point of the game
Yes it should, and that's perfectly natural.
Why should it take months and years to attain the strength and co-ordination necessary to walk in a world where walking is the most common activity on the planet?
You're advocating for a completely irrational standard. Newbies start at the bottom, and newbies have bottom-level expectations.

Simply put, if people are dropping out of 2142 (which is already happening)
BF2142 is an old game. People are dropping out, and this is natural.

There needs to be support for the few new players coming in.
Yes, we should be friendly and polite toward newbies.
Making this video game easier for them, however, is not a smart idea because it will not make the game more fun, and it will devalue their accomplishments.

If it doesn't happen, then 2142 will die much sooner.
You're using fear tactics here to get people to agree with you.
We all like 2142, and we also all realize that it is dying, and that it will die some day.
Allowing people to stat-pad will not only make this entire experience less pleasant, it will cheat what little newbies to come in, of a genuine experience.

    ---

    In short:
Stat-padding is unethical and it will not make the game more fun for the community, or, sincerely, for the stat-padder. Acquiring things without hard work, just like in real life, removes their value.
    Fight!

Good post Zho, but I think we are missing the point here. SpecOp isn't in any way new to the game, he was just asking the best way to get points/rank up and imo stat padding is just not the right way to go. Plus it's fun to try playing without all your fancy unlocks!

    Couldn't agree with Zho more.

Also to be honest, there are only like about 5 unlocks that I would consider a necessity in order to be "well-equipped"(although it takes about 10 unlocks to get to them all), especially if you play on TG. The defib of course, rockets, grenades, and the sprint unlocks. The rest of the trinkets will come with time and work. 10 ranks will take you all of 3 days to reach on the TG server if you play smart and work with your squad.

    @ Specop

My advice is simply play, I started a new soldier not long ago and just played and I had all the necessary unlocks within a week, just be smart about what you unlock and have fun with it. I honestly enjoyed using the stock weapons again, it posed another challenge for me to beat and made me a better all around player.

If you want to get unlocks fast, consider Northern Strike. By earning any of the NS badges or ribbons you get unlocks that you can use to get a very nice assault medic up and running with less than 3-5 hours of game time. With a strong assault medic solder, you can revive and heal your way up to the higher ranks without too much difficulty.

Running as an SL or CO can also get you additional points, but make sure you are issuing orders and using teamwork or it kind of defeats the purpouse.

For the time being, remember that you can pick up a fallen solders kit by pressing the "g" key (default). So just kill an enemy and take his kit.

My friends call me Y. My enemies call me... well, that's a secret.

    Re: Quickest way to rankup?

Many players here have started new soldiers and begun ranking them up, this can actually be fun too(it is for me). Just play on TG or any other server that insists on teamwork, stay with the squad and follow orders. The points will rack up quickly, field unlocks are easy to get on the TG server. Most of all have fun. Oh yeah, kill people and pick up thier kits, this will equalize the imbalance of unlocks until you can get them.

Learn to command in TG way (best tactical usage of assets), learn to make revives as much as you can, support whore in spammy maps.

    Aimbot like everyone here. Kidding!

I would say buy NS. Heal, revive and support at the right times ingame. If you are really desperate, work the badges that give you thousands of points. But that's really boring to do, i would much rather just play the game and have fun.

Very true, I've had the game for a 1-2 years, and I've played on TG for a long time. I was just looking for other people's opinions on how to rank up. One tactic ive used is a transport pilot, I gained 64 pts (about 62 teamwork points, 2 kills, 4 deaths) and a gold star doing that, my dad was an engineer throwing mines out the side, other random people stayed in the turrets shooting the enemy, and I became a fairly good transport pilot. im pretty much goin with the assault route, for it's my best kit, I figured once I got all the assault unlocks I wanted, and the 2 endurance boosters, I would go back to playing on TG. Until then, I'm not gonna be very useful on the TG server.
