Another trend. Maybe you can help?
I see another trend. A trend a lonewolfing where it doesnt need to be. This include TG tagged players.
When you make a squad. Make sure its for the benifit of your team. Usally a 1 man squad unlocked sqaud will do... jack for the team. Sometimes you want to SL, but how is one man going to help? Maybe your can double the effectiveness of a pubbie squad, maybe introduce them into TG and the use of VOIP. Having a pubbie squad that can do "something" is going to be better than out best TG player alone. Also your hurting your other SLs. I know myself and a few others SLs depend upon other squads to cover flanks and flags. When we look at the map and see a big "2" on the map, we think the flag is covered by squad 2. What happens when we dont see sq 2 is a one man squad? Yeah, we get out flanked and lose flags, tickets, ground, etc...
If there is a open squad, JOIN IT! If there is another 1 man squad, COMBINE THEM! If there is nothing, then make a squad.
Now heres where you can help me. Don't want to join pubbie squads? Why, because they don't do anything? Well they need to learn. TG isn't a free ride of better play and frags. Its a TEAMWORK REQUIRED server. That includes them. REPORT THEM if they are not responive or ignoring duty. I'm not afraid to kick them. The ones that come back usally learn how to mingle in and become better players. The soldier formerly known as, Eroak.

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
I must confess that I did join a pubbie looking sqaud tonight and asked for orders and got none and asked for mics and got 1 response, no orders were given, nor was there any markers set out on the map, I gave sit reps, said when I was down and asked for orders but the squad leader was unresponsive and the squad members did not use VOIP, even though it showed in the squad screen that mics were connected, so I left and joined a squad with players I was gaming with in previous rounds.
This may be my newness playing on the server, but I get bored when there is no chit-chat in game when in a squad, as it makes for a stale experience, being in a squad that uses VOIP is like carpet bombing an entire battlefield with Awesomeness!
In saying that, there are many people I have gamed with here that rise to the VOIP standard, including pubbies and TG members, and that is why I am here.
If you are new to our server, talk to us, crack a joke, revive us and have some fun, obey orders and use that mic to enjoy all the Awesomeness of squad communication, you and your squad and team are dependent on each other, if you do not communicate with each other you will be lost to the ways of FAIL!

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
The more I think of it, the more it makes sense.
I never had the mind of reporting such SLs. It feels like punting kittens off the sidewalk and into disease-ridden garbage can.
And now I realize that 'punting kittens' is just another term for 'sifting for gold'.
[random aside]
I just punted a kitten, but I don't see any gold.

From what I saw, small |TG| squads was a problem only today. Weird alignment of the stars during Halloween? Maybe.
I ran a few locked squads as of late.. if there's a lack of SLs I'll try to invite some random pubbies to prevent the "a jillion 2man squads". I noticed that a few joined like, a full 30 seconds after the round started
Also, SLing is pretty intimidating job to some. I think when some people make a small squad, they are doing it to try to get a feel with it before taking on the daunting task of managing 6 people. While I think they should learn how to use 6 people, there's nothing actually wrong with their thinking. They are still teamwork oriented..Last edited by Fruvous; 11-01-2009 at 06:47 AM.

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
Small locked squads can work. Sometimes fast tactics or specialized needs can only be effectively addressed with small squads. I don't mind these squads as long as they keep their purpose on track and they still work together. The other day I jumped in on 2 snipers thinking they were both lonewolfing. To my surprize they were calling targets and trying to kill same targets and cover bodies. While many of us might question the tactic, overall they are still trying to work together.

This is something that would surprise me too, most snipers get tunnelvision and off in their own world of 10x zoom, too concentrated on head-shots to call out targets. Sniper squads should make it their 2 primary objectives to cover bodies and q-spot - they have the best q-spotting of any class thanks to the zoom.
I have joined a few decent non-tg run squads recently that turned out to be fun.

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
I, like many people here, have spent a ridiculous amount of time playing this game.
With that being said, I have spent about an hour as Commander. This information is relevant to this thread because sometimes I feel that people can forget that being in a squad is not the only way to contribute to the success of the team. When you enter a game, and all the current squads are full, look to see if the Commander position is filled. By stepping up to lead your team you could turn the tide of battle, or ensure your teams victory. If you are like me and do not have large amounts of experience with commanding, its O.K. Take the helm! Familiarize yourself with the Commander assets. Communicate with squads to see what you can help them with. Take the initiative and organize multiple squads toward a common goal.
By taking the role of Commander as opposed to starting a one man squad you can enhance the effectiveness of your team, and become a better tactical player yourself.
Just my two cents. Take it or leave it.

I liked it when you gave orders - it was nice when you were direct

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
i dont want to get off topic but what TomDaSlaya say's is sadly true
having played countless games in tg server and i like to sl, i must say that in the most rounds we had no commander, and every time i need something on the field there is no commander to guide/help/warn me..
even when there is a commander(which many pubbie players prefer because the squads are gonna listen to your order, even if it means a suicide mission it will bring him points and maybe a medal) most of the time's he won't use voip, won't spot enemy's, won't warn you for enemy incoming infantry waves, and most of all won't see where u exactly are with your squad and wants you to go cap a flag to the other side of the map on foot and with all the armor/infantry in front of you

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
I have to agree with MrMojay
I am guilty of this !
Sometimes when I join, all the good squads are filled and you only have a pubbie squad. I will often join the pubbie squad and ask on mic " is this a teamwork squad ? " - sometimes SL says yes - sometimes SL says nothing - sometimes another member says ' no ' or ' I hope so ' and then we try and get the squad to act like a squad. If that doesnt work I make my own.
Sometimes I will leave a squad and make my own when Im stinking so badly I feel guilty like Im making the whole squad look bad since IM the only one without a positive ratio.

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
Come on Martha! This is |TG|. It is NOT the ={[<I MUST CRUSH YOUR FACE WITH MAH PWNZOR STATS IN ORDER TO HAVE FUN>]}= clan. Don't ever feel bad if you don't have a 3.0 K/D! The game is about so much more than that (to me anyway).
Besides, more often then not, having the lowest kills and highest deaths in a squad means that you are running around with a defib, sticking your neck out for your buddies, and they are unable to return the favor.
A more "on topic" note:
When you encounter a speechless/teamwork-less squad as mentioned above, instead of asking "Is this a teamwork squad?", strive to kindle the teamwork by using your mic heavily. Call out revives, call out enemies and give intel. Finish out the round with the squad, noticing who is typing into squad chat, following the group and attempting to work together. Next round you can start a squad and invite those who were trying to work in a cohesive manner; show them the TG way. I feel that the personal reward of sharing the TG way with a squad full of new players is far more rewarding than sitting in a lonely one man squad.
I realize sometimes this is easier said then done, especially when you don't want the hassle of initially unresponsive squad-mates, but reaching out, teaching, and stepping up to advocate teamwork oriented game-play to those who are new is an admirable action. I'm more than sure that TG members are up to the occasion.

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
I'd have to say that as much as it feels good to introduce a pubbie into the "TG Light", sometimes people dont have the patience to deal with pubbies who arent responsive via not having a mic. I guess everybody needs to try it once in awhile to really get a feel of what teamwork is about. Broaden your horizons people!

Re: Another trend. Maybe you can help?
You are very wise Tomda - well said !
In fact thats what I meant when I said "try and make it act like a squad" but didnt want to type a real-life plot-summary cuz Im a lazy old fart but since I dont want to be a lazy old fart I guess I have to type the real-life plot-summary
"How To Get A Non-Teamwork Squad To Game The TG-Way"
Torres and I join this squad led by a pubbie and another TG member was in it and I asked the famous 'Is This A Teamwork Squad Or Is It A Hang-Around-So-We-Dont-Get-Kicked-Off-The-Server Squad?' and get no answer except from TG member who says he wants it to be a teamwork squad so we start doing just like you said and start using mics and calling intel and setting example and reviving squadmates. I revive this pubbie who says thanks and I say 'hey no prob teamwork is great eh ?'
Then the Squad Leader leaves the squad and rejoins the squad and now IM the Squad Leader - so thats how THAT movie ends :\
I will give a plot summary of the exciting sequel ' How to get a non-responsive pubbie to pitch in with the Squad ' next time.
MrMojay is NOT speaking blarney
( except for the boogie blarney cuz he KNOWS he loves to ride my boogie all the time .. and so does Jazy ! )
