    Killing Floor!

    **FIRST OFF WARNING--LANGUAGE***

I know, but it was 2am when I was editing it and I was chatting with my friend via gtalk, not in game voip.....deal, or don't listen!!!!

This is the game killing floor I keep talking about. I know silver posted some videos awhile back. This is one of the many custom maps out there, based on Doom if you can't tell.... figured some of you might enjoy it.

    Re: Killing Floor!

This game is very good. The sounds of the weapons are awesome and really makes it feel like they pack a punch. Playing on the harder difficulties can be amazingly difficult even with a group of people who are working very well together. I'll be getting this game probably in the Spring when I have the extra cash, though finding 20 USD really isn't "too" hard for the most part.

I personally don't recommend the custom maps like the one in the video. Most custom maps, including this one, that I've played have some design flaw which makes certain areas absolutely perfect places to defend from. In that level for example there are two main rooms. One has only one entrance and the other has a front entrance and a back entrance which only the crawling ZEDS ever use (only one person ever needs to guard it). The strategy is to get in one room and just wait for the creatures. Since all the creatures must come through one entrance they are easily defeated. Which, in my opinion, takes the fun out of it and turns the game into a grind (I played with an entire group of of people I didn't know on the hardest difficulty and won on that level without pretty much any communication from the entire team). The stock maps have good defensive locations, but with more ways for the ZEDS to get behind you and breach defenses or merchant spawns which take you far away from those good defensive spots with no hope of making it back before the next (ever increasing) wave of ZEDS arrive.

Though the custom maps I've played have had these issues I'm sure there are custom maps out there that are very good. I'm pretty sure the new maps from the "expansion" are user made maps that the devs liked so much they added to the game.

The only thing I have against the game is that they don't have a party system. I remember playing this game on a Steam Free Weekend special with two of my friends. It took about 30 minutes to get us all on a server without it filling up before everyone could join. Since there are only 6 people to a team, and if the server doesn't allow spectating, it can be very difficult to get your group on one server (unless you have the capability to host your own, and if you do you better have 5 other friends since you can't switch the server from passworded to unpassworded in game). And even if the server allows spectators, your friend may have to wait a long time before one of the other people on the server decided to leave.

Killing floor rocks for sure. The TG Euros has a dedicated killing floor server running 24/7with a lot of maps and map voting between the maps. Anyone, especially TG's are indeed welcome to hop on the server anytime. I try to update the server with interesting maps on a regular basis. Let me know if you have any requests for maps

Personally I dont like killing floor at all.

You basically learn a level, the good camp spots and work after your script. There is not much room for real creative teamwork to happen on the spot. Very repeatative gameplay.

Yeah, what Lyra said is true.

But for a $20 game, and the custom maps that are out there, it's a game I can hop in with 2-3 friends and just have a ton of fun obliterating the specimens. As for the custom maps, they make the game more fun, yes, there's only really one way on that Doom map for the creatures to get in, but when there are six people, I go in the other room and take pot shots at everyone.

I don't play it enough for it to be repetitive, I've got my Sharpshooter at level 6 and the other specialties are at level 2s.

It's a cheap game that's fun to hop in with some friends for some (fairly) quick rounds, with good weapons, and a ton of gore! Obviously I think it's a great game for what it's designed to be

    Re: Killing Floor!

I disagree totally. L4D(1&2) is a halfbreed linear game, though that said they are probably two of those games I play the most

In L4D you and your mates are lead your way to the final showdown, and its all set up for you what is going to happen. Do not misunderstand me I love these games.

Killing floor is more of a survival thing where you depend on the teamwork to survive, the more of your'e team that strays the harder it gets to survive and win the game. You got to have real teamwork to make it happen, and the skills of your mates really count to what success the endevour will be in the end.

You also have the no crosshair thing which I like, and the perk functionality where you actually get paid with more skill as you play more. A tad more realistic than the games you just unlock more new weapons as you go along.

Finally everyone is of course waiting for the release of DF2 mod which will be awsome and also playable at our server. http://www.defencealliancegame.com/

    thx and cheers, ground
