The invinsible gunship
Just a fact/glitch that I've found a couple of times... I was wondering if someone can explain the cause. In Shuhia Taiba... euh 32 players I believe... There's a invisible/invincible (here comes the invinsible) EU gunship! Hurray! It's on the PAC side of the map between the Uncap and the flag downhill of Offices (can't remember the lovely name). It's quite close to ground (like 50) and near a farm silo. If you pass by, you'll see the diamond, you can Q-spot it, you hear it, but you can't kill it or see it.
It make me freaked out because I heard the sound and believe there's a gunship next to me. So I turn around and see that's it's infamous "invinsible gunship" and then get kill by the real gunship coming from above...
So if anyone knows the cause or something about it, let me know.

Re: The invinsible gunship
I think it´s a whole different deal
Spotting Gunships bugs out often ! You will spot the real gunship but it will not move on the minimap. You can also respot it ,,, but it won´t move. The real gunship is somewhere else.
I have this bug regularly playing CO. Very annoying

Re: The invinsible gunship
This happens sometimes. It's not permanently there. Happens on suez as well, at inner bridge the gunship seemingly disappears on the pad. I think it possibly may have fallen through the graphics or something.
You can still hear its engines running which is quite weird. In Order to Dance

Re: The invinsible gunship
I think I've seen a video on Youtube about this, but I can't find it to post.

Playing BF2142 as:
-{SXGr}- J0KerRr
-{SXGr}- x^DeTeR
I'm always open for tips, tutorials and training in the gunship while online, just ask :)
Currently taking a break from MW2, but when I play its as:
eXileD// DeTeR
Even if you don't consider that I only have 7 days played in the gunship I'm one of the best pilots in the game
I will always accept a 1v1, friendly or not

Re: The invinsible gunship
I've had this on Project Reality before - the sound of the helicopter sometimes remains in the area where it was destroyed, leaving a squad running round trying to stop an aerial assault that doesn't exist. I'm not sure when it goes away, of even if it does before the end of the round.
I guess it's a bug with the Battlefield engine.

Re: The invinsible gunship
Maybe it's the new christmas unlock? Cloak the gunship for 10 seconds?

Re: The invinsible gunship
Its a packet loss fix that went out in 1.3. the servers were having issues of general lag due to to many packets that had to be sent out to client computers. This issue was most noted during 50+ open connections to a server. The server needed to send out all data as in axis, direction and equipment positions to all clients.
In 1.3 they reduced the amount of packet info being sent out based on distance to the client. So the server only sent revelent data to that client. If someone was 200m from me in game, the server didn't send me data on that player, thus opening the server's bandwidth for other packets to other clients.
This caused the gunship/transport spotting issue, its a client side bug. Once the gunship gets about 250m from your position, the server will stop sending you updates on its true position. Thus your client thinks its it the last packet that was sent to you, a static x,y,z location. The soldier formerly known as, Eroak.

I've been curious about why aircraft spotting sucks so much in this game; thanks for the explanation Eroak.

Re: The invinsible gunship
Well, maybe it's Q-Spoting but I believe it's different because I can see the diamond and hear the sound of it as I get closer.... I know it's not a killed gunship because well... you don't need to kill a gunship at that location to have the bug... I'll record it next time and show it...

Eroak, that was a very sexy explanation to a long time question. I appreciate your sharing your technical knowledge with us.
