Re: The make a new soldier trend
But they're hardly anonymous :P
I can readily identify all the Slayas without having squadded with them.
Saying someone shouldn't be on TG because they use another character is extremely close minded and is completely irrelevant.
I go into the server with tactics and teamwork in mind, and you tell me to go away because you don't recognize who it is? Perhaps we should tell pubbies that they aren't welcome because they aren't part of the 'in crowd'.
Really, the only way an alteralias hurts the community is the people who can't tolerate it.
edit:
You know what fractures the community?
Some threads that make the community fractured!
Hooray, but I'm not going to ask you to leave TG beacuse of it, but only suggest to make the thread on another forum

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Side note...............TS isn't only for speaking........Sometimes I say very little in TS. But when someone mentions team balance issues or other problems on TS I hear it straight away and can switch sides or do whatever is needed.
Sometimes a problem player may be in your squad and hearing their name on TS can help you to "re-educate" that person about our rules and save another soul from a kick or ban
(I rarely catch the typed messages when in-game)

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Its not the using another char that is the problem, it is the anonymous nature of the alts. I never said people should not play TG nor did I tell you to go away.
If people NEED to play ANONYMOUS alts on TG then why even bother being a part of this community? My problem is not with random pubbies playing our server it is with well known and not so well known TG players rolling anonymous alts that make it difficult to get to know one another and build the larger TG community.
Hopefully I am clear here. The anonymous nature of the alts is causing a problem. You may know the slayers, but I have no idea who they are. It took me a week or more to find out one of them was zohar and I still don't know which one he is.
(edit)
This thread is not fracturing the community, the fracture occurred when people started rolling anonymous alts on a semi frequent basis. I am simply posting what I am sure many people felt before I made this thread. This thread is very much an attempt to stop any further fracture from occurring.

Barry:
I'm sorry but what?
Hope I misread that. Because what I read was that if you are a member of this site and read this forums you are obliged to wear the TG tags and if you don't you should go and play on another server. Man, I must be really really new to TG because that I didn't now.
Seriously. I can't see how it is anyones business what name I use or if I decide not to wear the TG-tag. How does it hurt you and your gaming if people play with another name?Nubhar

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Perhaps reread the original post. It does not hurt hurt an individual or the game, it hurts the community by denying us us the opportunity to have a shared experience. I want to be a part of the TG community, but a sizable portion of the community is hiding behinds alts and changing names on a monthly basis. This makes it very difficult to get to know them and feel like they are a part of the larger group.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I have no clue who any of the slayas are. I may not be on a lot, but I am on several times a week, and I am in the 2142 TS channel every single time I play.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
The thread does fracture the community a bit.
Drama is demotivating. This specific thread targets a group of players and ultimately makes TG feel less welcoming.
I can say the same thing :PIf people NEED to play ANONYMOUS alts on TG then why even bother being a part of this community?
If people NEED to play where he can identify EVERYONE then why not consider being in a clan with a private server?

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I honestly think it doesn't hurt the TG community :P
I think the people who can't tolerate anonymity hurt the community.
I can readily say Abel's alternate soldier doesn't bother me in the least. I still have equal fun when I didn't know
I can say that I am very bad at hiding my alternate persona - Mary Poppinz, which I haven't played in forever.
I can say that even if I didn't know who the Slayas were, it was a great joy fighting them - not knowing who they were only made me curious. It did NOT give me any negative emotions.Without teamwork, you'll never survive.
Without betrayal you'll never win.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I think your wrong Fruvous. My comment on team stacking was about the fact that people that roll alt name are no longer held responsible for any kind of unbalance on the server because most people don't know them. I see people changing side to balance team when their on there main caracter and there is no way you could convince them to stay with you and not going to the losing team (and thats good for us). But when they play there alt they no longer feel responsible for what is going on since no body is going to held them responsible for not balancing the team out.
And if you believe anonymity is all that good go have a look at 4chan and see what anonymity to the extreme does to people.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Ok, well, If I'm alone in my thinking, then I'm wrong. If there's noone who believes as I do, I will gladly shut up.
But I don't think so because I'm not the only one with an alt (an alt, I hasten to add, is Mary Poppinz, which I don't play)
TG is a community of mature players. TG is a place that fosters maturity.
4chan is a community of immature people. 4chan is a place that fosters immaturity.
Just because they're both communities that feature anonymity doesn't mean they are the same thing.

Shutting up either way :P

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I don't really agree with the hurting the TG community philosophy over name changes. To paint this idea in corporate terms. TG is the branding of this particular community. And individuals on the server really are just workers toiling away. They are still here building the community regardless of their names. And their voices (literal and figuratively speaking) are still providing the same spirit of play that TG benefits from. I can understand this philosophy more if we are talking about key admins changing their names since their presence builds a reassurance of quality control on the server. But imo I see no long term determent to TG as a group otherwise. Everyone enjoys playing for their own reasons and any effort to wag the finger over something as simple as a name only serves to push them away from the group. Creating an issue over something trivial seems counter intuitive to the mature, fun loving group of gamers I think TG is.
I've changed my solider recently. And although it wasn't my intent, its added some enjoyment to the game I'd forgotten as I toil away to gain my promotions. But I can understand the confusion and some awkward situations it creates (mostly just how the hell to refer to me). While I know we are talking about frequent changes, I re-rolled just so I can get other kits more fully unlocked instead of awaiting squad unlocks. Oracle77 was my first and only character until I created Nora_Charles. For anyone who actually takes the time to talk to me call me Oracle, call me Nora, call me by my actual name Matt. It really makes no difference to me. We can have some laughs either way. And isn't that really what a community's about?
The only negative vibe I can get from this situation is if someones changing their game name frequently to purposefully hide themselves from a person or group which in turn is causing some kind of drama. I haven't seen this happen here and if it did it seems really only directed at 1 or 2 people. That, to me seems between that group and I don't see how it pertains to TG at large.
However...... Sorry to derail the thread a bit but I think what hurts TG is when I see a TG locked squad with less then 6 (not talking about armor or asset squads) and/or a TG member making a squad only to leave it when he doesn't get certain TG mates in. I've seen it a lot recently and as someone who frequents the server often it gets under my skin. It's caused me to leave the server on a few occasions and I think it sends a pretty nasty message to any new person who decides to see what were about. Its been on my mind a bit and I didn't want to create a thread over it.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
GUESS WHAT:
It is interesting to realize that if it is TG members that are playing under alternate names, they must understand that they are held responsible to the same rules and standards that any TG member or non-member that is playing on the server are held to... If you are a TG member or a pubby that does obey the laws of the server then you have no problem.
Shall we crucify those who have done no wrong?

Never seen so many "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread" before. Eleven, wow. I can see this going down a bad road, so we should all be careful keeping our posts non-personal.

Playing BF2142 as:

I'm always open for tips, tutorials and training in the gunship while online, just ask :)
Currently taking a break from MW2, but when I play its as:
eXileD// DeTeR
Even if you don't consider that I only have 7 days played in the gunship I'm one of the best pilots in the game
I will always accept a 1v1, friendly or not
