Re: The make a new soldier trend
We should change our soldier names every day! Then the server would be like the dark room in the back of a Gay bar, behind that velvet curtain, only regulars get to pass! - EXCITING !

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Contrary to Eroak's post it's always been my understanding that TG members and more to the point, IHS members are held to a higher standard. Admins are quicker to ban people who should know better but still break the rules. I've read that numerous times before I joined. Which BTW is fine by me but it goes against what Eroak's post.
Besides that though sometimes people just want to enjoy the game and not be tied to anything. There are more reasons to play under a pseudo name than one person could come up with, the reason for mine being my own. And while I can understand the frustration but I have to disagree. Perhaps it's a symptom of a larger problem?
In regards to Teamspeak, I don't see the benefit of it. At best there's a few 'good games' at the end of the match and at worst there's a lot of talking going on before a match when a SL is trying to give orders. Team balancing issues are usually pretty obvious by the score uaually don't need someone to tell them that teams are uneven.
While I do love to put on those IHS tags and represent, often I just want to enjoy the game with a good group of people and rules I appreciate without anyone knowing who I am. Unfortunately for you, that is my right.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Well in all fairness..I think for those who feel they want to create a new soldier should let everyone know who they are. Although I do agree with the majority on how detrimental it can be for everyone in game and the server.... I also feel the people have the right to create a new soldier if they like. I have another soldier but I haven't used it on TG. Not to say I would have never got in game with it but I just created it, as McLarge did, to see if I can do better with that soldier. I have had my present soldier for about 4 years or more but really haven't thought of any KD ratio and/or stats for it. Now that I've been gaming for a while on BF 2142 I wanted to create one that I was more careful with. I will take this time now to let everyone know what the name of my other soldier is. Her name
is H0tgaminlatina. This is a name I've had out of TG (other forums, other gaming network sites, etc.) for quite a while now and it was only natural to have all my gaming characters with the same name. So if you see her on the battlefield know you will get revived
and maybe some cookies
With that said...good thread Sc1ence. Cya you all on the battlefield.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Why do I feel like this has become a mix of the shows "The Price is Right," the "Colbert Report," and a soap opera? There seems to be too much comedy, drama, and guessing for new cars all in one thread for me to be able to read it all...

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Tk'ers get banned, bunnyhoppers get kicked.. and so on. Everyone recieves treatment. Each incident is treated based on the incident and the persons history with TG. If a non-tagged person commits a violation, they are delt with based on knowledge of the rules and conduct just as a TG tagged member who does the same thing. A new member might be asked to remove the tags if they cannot grasp the concept of TG but might have future prospect, although this is a rare case.
Overall, each case is reviewed based on the incident, what happened, and the persons foreknowledge of the violations they broke. Not their tags or name.
Now that I cleared that up, My point of the post was how members should treat other members, not how admins react to violations. That wasn't the point of the thread and I'm not sure how you dissected that out of my post.Last edited by Mordona; 12-14-2009 at 07:29 PM.

Yea. Frequent rolling is pretty annyoing. I think of names on a game as if I was actually naming myself in real life. You should think about what you will name yourself and think about what nickname you might get, puns, etc. before you pick it. It is kind of like saying, "my old name was bob, but now I want to be called Mark"

Frankly... if you feel like creating a new persona it doesn't bother me at all.
What bothers me about all this is that most of these people who create these new soldiers are NOT wearing their TG TAGS. That I find to be problematic. Not because I don't know who these people are .. because most do.. but because they aren't representing the community anymore and they think they are being clever by being undercover big deal... the big deal is that TG isn't being represented without Clan TAGS.
Sorry didn't feel like reading the whole thread before I posted...
what Vortex said puts it straight.
In otherwords..... what he said.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I have used several alt names, and I mostly let those I know who I am when I'm playing, but I don't see what damage it's doing if I'm following the rules, my SL, my commanders orders etc. I enjoy ranking up, and picking a name that I wish I'd chosen from the beginning..
In fact the only thing that bothered me about it was when I was Commanding and an 'ok' SL just shouted at me because I was not watching what his squad was doing at ALL times. (I don't know how good he is at SL'ing, but going by his attitude, I'm not thinking he is fun to play with). He didn't ask for orders, help, support, just come right out and shouted because I did not have the unlock for reading his mind. So what if I missed a buggy shooting across the map and taking a back flag. I could have been doing something more useful for someone else. Are we saying if I was TG tagged, he would have talked to me differently? I'd have spotted the buggy with the extra power the Tag gives us? I think I command well enough, but to be judged so quickly, and knowing that someone new to TG would have had that treatment is very sad. I know most people would not do this, but everyone who comes to the server is potentially another great asset to the community, and should be helped and guided in that direction.
On another note.. Changing names is a pretty good tactic in some cases. |TG| SoAndSo always does a buggy rush along the east route on Carebear, Soldier2 always sits in the rorsche expecting a buggy to come up that hill etc.. But MrUnknown could do anything he wants, and I'll have no experience to plan against his moves..
I don't mind what names you use, and will have no expectations of you if I don't know who you are, and will be pleased when you do a great job for the team.BF3 Soldier: DrSparky

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I quote for truth! When I squad-lead I expect averageness from my squad, because that's what I'm most likely to get. When I get more than that I'm thrilled and when I get less I say "let's try harder" or "let's try something different." I do realize now that new names could throw my squad-mates, though, and will remember to make things clear if I don't have IDS, MMs, etc.
Currently, I feel like I should be using a "secret" soldier name - I'm in mouse limbo and trying to adjust to the whacked out feeling. I'm very much incapable of what I was with my old one.
