Re: The make a new soldier trend
I play PR, which does not have unlocks, and occasionally I would join the server without tags and with a different name just to see how people were treating new players. haven't done it for a while but I think it is more important that the TG players continue playing properly and not be switching names just to 'get away' with being treated as someone who might not know the rules. I think that going incognito on occasion is actually good for players so they can see how the server population is treating new players, and possibly note if some behaviors that they do themselves comes off as insulting when they are on the other side.
I agree with the argument that using a consistent name does help foster the community because of being able to recognize other regular players. I would agree that those that switch often should follow a previous suggestion of putting your in game name in your signature on the forums and using the TG tag while in game simply to show community support.Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I havenīt read the entire thread cause i donīt think i need to and i am a lazy bum but in all serious... If people want to make new players let them. Itīs their free time, their way to spend it. Who are we to tell people what and who to manage their free time? Maybe they donīt want to be noticed? Maybe the high standard you have in mind when seeing a special name is a burden to that person once in a while? So why not let them chill out a bit and play under a different name?
And last but not least donīt complain about not knowing who your playing with. The real strategic mastermind can work with almost everything ( and since these players still have their skill and tactical mind it should work out well )

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Dude, you're post more than any other here has impacted my outlook on this topic. In the end it is a game....aka 'for fun'.... and I guess as long as all players are abiding by the rules of the server, it is a little bit silly to bicker over something like this. While I DO still find the practice annoying, fighting over it is what will ultimately potentially divide the community.

What I love is listening to a guy in TS ask for an invite to a squad with his alt, but has to give his "real" name in order for the SL to oblige him. [INSERT ANIMATED EYE-ROLLING EMOTICON HERE]

Re: The make a new soldier trend
MaryPoppinz/Fruvous/Lv8 Furvous etc...., I think that's what HellHarry and the thread is trying to discuss - maturity/immaturity and TG community. In fact, since the thread, I have noticed new names of soldiers that were probably created with the intent to poke fun of the discussion. Okay.
I'm not sure how you create a community when you don't know who's who. I know my experience with TG has been a lot about getting to know people in squad or in TS. To take that experience further, if you wish, there are the IHS where we know each other very well and even personally.
Nevertheless, I think that all of these opinions are worth a read so I don't think you should "shut up," as you put it. But I would say that one thought from this thread is: if you do want a new soldier (as Reaper said for good reasons), why not put the TG tags on; especially, when you have been wearing them for years? No big deal for me but I'm not roll'in with them nor will I give my usual deference to them.
I don't think a discussion on how the community feels over this issue is a definition of fighting over it. I know I call my employees into a conference room to "discuss" very serious issues all the time and not everyone agrees but I get to hear points of views to make an informed decision; I call that - maturity.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
Oh my... apparently I can't take even short breaks, because every time I do, when I check back there's long, very opinionated, threads like these XD
Seriously? Too much of anything is a bad thing. I don't want to see everyone changing their names or tags the same night to the point I don't see any TGers at all, or don't know who anyone is.
At the same time, if someone wants to change their name for a while, for fun, anonymity, or a challenge... why on earth not? As said by Black_Mirror, they bring exactly they same level of skill and teamwork to TG, and as noted by admins they follow the rules like anyone else.
Why not go to another server? Oh I don't know... because they enjoy TG ?
Besides the rules and maturity, why should anyone be made unwelcome to the TG community? Simply for changing their name occasionally and bringing a bit of humour into our TS channels once and a while?
Let people have mature fun without going overboard "OMG he took his tags off!" They havn't stopped contributing to the community or game - and even then they'd be free to do so - and they'll still mainly play, and be known by, their main character.

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I have been Martha Hyer since about 1999 ... maybe longer, Im afraid to look.
For those of you wondering HOW I ended up with that name you can go to www.buxombombshells.net and read all about it
I have a couple other players I have made but rarely use, I picked these myself ( Martha got handed to me when I was inducted in BB ) and they are more descriptive and accurate than Martha

Re: The make a new soldier trend
I logged on the other day, I saw alot of different names on performing very well individually on their k/d. Without much teamwork or comms. And i thought about this thread.
Then i realised, could it be that many who used to play the game before under their real name have gone tired of what is demanded of them? I mean if you log on and are always expected to SL or always play the medic-horde game and then in addition people start complaining about teamstacking or not playing medic because it's not "optimal". Do you in the end give up playing because it's killing the fun? Or maybe that's why different solder names are in use? Is this where our demand for constant high quality-server gameplay has brought us?
I really don't know it just got me thinking that too much seriousness can kill the gameplay altogether for the old-timers and that we need to respect each other if we don't want to always play what is optimal to win. It should be all about fun in the end!
