Re: Exclusive Squads?
I understand the reasons behind locking your squads for whatever occasion...
But you can not deny that from an outsiders (and sometimes insiders) perspective that if this happens often enough its gonna turn a lot of people away from the community.
The repeat offenders I've seen do this tend to me make log out of game early. I don't care what your reasons are. Do it enough and its tiresome and annoying.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I don't see any problem with members running smaller locked squads of their pals as long as it isn't an every time occurrence. Most of the time that I'm in game I'm in the squad lead position. Usually I lead squads that I lock invite 1 or 2 people and then unlock it for anyone else who is spamming the join button, but there are those times that I know I can't deal with a squad full of people I don't know. It's those times that you'll see me run small vehicle squads, or 3 or 4 man locked squads with the guys that I've been playing with here for over a year and half now. People need to learn to not take everything as a personal insult to themselves.
We have all been on the outside of those close nit groups at one point or another, and we worked our way into them. Keyword is in that sentence is worked. Asking for an invite every time you see a locked squad isn't working, its asking for a free pass. Playing the game, and helping your team with revives, and supply points, playing well, those are working towards getting invites more often. You need to show people what you have to offer before you get a shot.
So my advice to you, Sluggo and anyone else who shares the same feelings, is to step up and lead a squad of your own. To join squads when they are open and use that time to show people that you are a team player, that you can get that revive that someone else would've missed, that you can guarantee that your squad will always have ammo. Asking for squad invites over and over again does nothing but make you sound like a little kid who's desperate to play with the big boys. You can't expect to get a free pass in everything you do.Whats the Deal with the tiny sig limit?

Re: Exclusive Squads?
Damonte was in Reaper's locked squad during the round on Sidi brought up initially in this thread. Reaper and a nameless German were in the air transport, while Damonte and ArmoredBear were in the gunship.
What's not being said here is how Reaper ran three previous squads of mixed IHS-comrades mixed with one or two non IHS affiliated individuals.
Thank you, Reaper, for opening your squad up three times to play with individuals who were not just not in your IHS, but also not in any IHS at all.
Who can blame him for wanting to play one round (coincidentally the round brought up as the 'trend' in this thread) locked with only his IHS-comrades?

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I enjoy playing in squads with a few new (to TG) players. More than half of the regulars around right now were not playing on TG when I tagged up. I suspect your experience of finding the oasis that is TG is similar to mine. "Finally, maturity, tactics, and teamwork!" It was being in a TG squad with a few TG guys that led me to tag up, join the forums and be a part of this community.
TG would not be possible if we did not get new people to replace those that invariably leave our community. We get new people by being welcoming to new players. This is at times a sacrifice, but it is a necessary one.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
Disclaimer: The following comments are not directed at any single individual involved in in this discussion...
I know there are some that encourage asking for invites to squads,(in fact I remember seeing it posted somewhere before), but I for one don't agree with it. I view it the same way as people inviting themselves in other social situations, it lacks etiquette. What if the person's motivations for not wanting someone in their squad have no tactical basis but are completely selfish? What if they feel a person's play style may interfere with their own?..or doesn't like how someone constantly spams rockets and doesn't ever use their rifle?..or doesn't follow orders well?...or uses annoying words like pwn and meh every five seconds?
Does anyone actually want to be in a squad in which they may not be welcome anyway? I know I don't, whatever the reason. Asking for an invite puts people in a position where they may reluctantly invite someone after being asked only so as not to look like a douche to the others in TS.
There are some SL's that invite me from time to time for which I am grateful, others that I will try and join by clicking if they don't, and others that I avoid altogether as I know my play style doesn't agree with them. Although I like to win and see green at the top of the list as much as the next guy, some people take the game more seriously than I, as I like to joke around on occasion...especially after my third Yuengling or so.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
yes, I was in the squad twice, one on minsk and the other i dont remember. I wanted to join up again on sidi but when i saw the locked squad i didnt make much of it and went and made my own squad and we did great, until off course the server kicked me for an SM seeing that I am not one YET

Re: Exclusive Squads?
i guess this problem is not that big as said here, maybe because sluggo did that "bad expirience".
i did that expirience to at the beginning, but i also had the chance to lern from some awesome SL's like zohar or silver. in these days we still have "learn tg" or "turns" squads which are a lot of fun and really effective. (i would not open a "learn tg squad yet, because of my skill and my english
) as said it is normal, that you want to play with friends and people you know, but if it is not necessary to lock the squad you should let the puppies seed the last slots.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I like playing with many members of TG, and have the players I lead come back round after round for some butt-kicking action, but normally I don't lock my squad (unless I'm in a gunship) and invite those players in unless it was a specifically planned thing I had talked about the round before.
Whenever me and Fruvous are on a side together I always join his squad and we have a lot of fun together, but we never lock our squads. It's always jump in there before another eager soul gets there, and if I don't happen to make it, I make my own squad (with a better name mind you) and compete for glory on the battlefield.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
What I meant with maturity was that there is a time and place for everything. Sometimes (rarely even?) locked squad might be more of a burden to your team than a help. A while back I was on a team with 5 locked squads, none of them full (I made an "unlocked" squad). I don't think that was the best for the team (you might disagree).
Only seen that extreme example once, but anything taking to exess are harmfull. I also think what Science wrote is true aswell. When I count, there are only you and I together

Re: Exclusive Squads?
If you do not like the way people keep you from a squad, then create your own! Plain and simple. Then you can set the rules, you can run the show, you can gain that reputation that will help you get an invite or two. I know that my squad is ALWAYS unlocked. Everyone is welcome! Although, you usually have to be quick on the draw because it usually fills up in less than 2 seconds, literally (~50% untagged pubbies on an average night). And as far as an IHS dominating because of a locked squad, yeah right. You can be surprised at what a squad full of pubbies can do. Better rapport too with players new to TG if you do not lock squads. So, instead of complaining that you do not get an invite because you might not be as "popular" with some SL's, create your own squad and go kick their rear. Just my opinion.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I'm afraid folks generally invite me to their squads because of my mindless debauchery ('ware the Spurnade!). Only a few can stomach the wit that is Spur

Tongue firmly in cheek, but seriously, while I don't lock squads myself, there are some squads where the banter is sometimes just not fit for some ears. It is better to stick with the evils you know than risk the evils you do not in that case
So many different reasons squads are locked, and the same folks that lock them often unlock when they have the invites filled. I personally do not see a trend of one person or several people being always exclusive in squads. Of course I am only on 9 pm till midnight est usually.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I personally lock my squads about 90% of the time to grab a buddie or two that are on so we can play together, then I unlock it unless designated as a gunship or roflcoptor squad for anyone who wants to take the risk and follow my lead as i tend to jump left right and sideways "medaforically speaking" all over the map. Everyone is welcome to hop on the crazy train with me if they are willing

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I've sometimes start up a "SNIPER" squad with only 2 or 3 people, I get the best I can, and hang back 500 feet or so behind the front lines, and pick em' off at long distance. Not many people do this, so it tends to work well. The commander often finds that the sniper squad can be as/ or more useful than a squad full of assault medics, part of the reason for this is probably that I make my squads out of people I find to be good snipers and follow orders well. You ought to try it sometime. Squad leader skills are not as stressed, and its a nice alternative to geting into frag fests.
