This subject has prolly been brought up before, but i wanted to make sure people know about this. Sometimes there are some experienced, well known players who come on, and create those squads that they only invite their experienced friends. Tonight, playing the Sidi map on the TG server, i asked to join such a squad. Who doesnt want to join a squad with good players in it? Promptly, i was rudely denied. This has been becoming a habit to most players, now i do understand that they want to play with their fellow in-house mates, and good friends, but dont always invite those and lock it, to make sure none of the noobs get in. I have seen some invite 2 members of TG and lock it, as well as up to 5 fill a squad. I asked and was denied, either they were waiting for a friend or not, it always seems to be impossible to get into those really good squads.
In a nutshell, play with different people, and unlock your squads if they are not filled. I say this because when I play with such players, I learn more and more as I squad up with the experienced players.
We are here to have fun, not totally demolish the battlefield, play with variety. That leads into teamstacking, but i wont get into that.Last edited by Mordona; 12-17-2009 at 02:15 AM. Reason: Merged

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I did not invite you to my squad because all of my planned out roles were filled. The air transport was going to lift the two gunship pilots and an extra to the middle flag and then the two in the trans were going to provide ground support. There was an extra as is and I was not going to allow more man power to go to waste. My squads are centered around teamwork and simplicity, less extraneous chatter the higher coordination is possible (which is especially true for air vehicles on sidi). I'm sorry if you feel excluded but there is no need to accuse yourself of being a noob or a less than good player.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
1st: I believe you're talking about none specific squad (Gunships, tanks, armor, etc...)
2nd: Maybe the squad was doing something specific and didn't need more player. Even if the name may not say so. I usually use random squad names (because you're restricted to 8 letters and random names are funnier). I just told what I was doing to the commander. Here's a example:
I had a squad on Berlin a couple of days ago. I was trying something with a 4 man squad and I didn't want more then 4 SM for 2 reasons. 1st: Smaller squad was a part of what I was testing. 2nd: Well I don't believe that I could effectively use 2 more SM. So I locked my squad at 4. The game went on. Then someone on TS violently said:"Squad 1 please unlock your squad!" so I was scared... lol. Honestly I didn't felt like trying to explain, whoever it was, what I was doing so I just unlock my squad and played like a normal squad. Still I haven't fulfilled all my tests lol. I'll probably try it again.
If you ask a invite, you could be politely denied. Still, if a squad is lock for no reason well...
It's just hard to know if there's a reason or not

Re: Exclusive Squads?
Different preferences
Some people like to play with people they are familiar with and tell jokes
Some people want to play with a small tight squad.
I think they're a fun to play against, and it's nice knowing which squads you can rely on. So either way, I don't really mind..Without teamwork, you'll never survive.
Without betrayal you'll never win.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I like playing against "exclusive" squads because you can usually tell that if one member is there, the other members are not far away. Same with IHS squads. It makes it a lot easier to find the best place to get some action, because oftentimes much of the skill on that team is condensed into that one squad or few squads.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I do understand the close knit system and wanting to be with friends, but I have seen three man assault squads that are locked, especially when some of them encourage more full squads rather than multiple 2-3 man squads.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
One-man locked squads are against our rules, otherwise no. There are many reasons for a locked squad, one good example is the one that Reaper gave. Another is, looking at a three man squad, that a three man squad is more mobile and the SL may have plans to utilize that squad for specific reasons.
Some locked squads are a result of the SL trying to keep the same people in the squad for consistency.
Although we do want no one to be left out, we also want everyone to have fun. In the future, I may suggest that if you know who the SL is...just send them a pm and politely ask why....if you really need to know.
I have been denied also, I either join another squad or simply lead my own.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
When I started playing on the TG server I never got into the really good squads, But I saw that as an incentive to be a better TGplayer. And after a while I got my first invites and was really happy that I was doing something right. The practicing payed off.
And anyway, you can always SL yourself and create your own great squad.

Re: Exclusive Squads?
This is a maturity issue in the end really. There are, of course good reasons for locking a squad. Assetssquads, trying minisquad tactics, want of playing with your friends and so on. Nothing wrong with that.
But I think you might want to ask yourself a few questions while doing it. Just picking questions at random as they pop up into my head, are others of course.
Is the best thing I can do for the team is to make a new locked squad?
What have I done to help/teach newcommers lately?
Does the team need one more sl or more sm:s?
How do I politely decline people who want to join?
Is it a good thing to run a locked squad for several rounds?
Do I have the energy and patience to be sl for people I don't know?
I can't give you the answers, since my answer probably will differ from yours and variating over time. As for getting invites, it will come with time. *shrugs* I don't get invites from some people and I do from others. Honestly don't think about it that much. And as other people stated earlier, you can always make a squad yourself. Trust me, it's a lot of fun taking a bunch of previously unknown people and see them function as a squad, beating other tg tagged squads....I guess I'm childish that way
. Or join some unknown, you might be surprised. Zao, Fruv are two sl:s I enjoy playing with and neither of them where tagged then I started joining their squads.
When I count, there are only you and I together

Re: Exclusive Squads?
Maturity issue... nop. Yes it's great to be able to play with great people (I was like that when I arrived on TG) but I sincerly think this as nothing to do with maturity on both side. There is nothing wrong with locking squad, there is nothing wrong with wanting to play with your friend. In the end if you cry about not being able to get in a squad for what ever reason I think your being selfish about it. I remember that I would spam the join button for 3rd squad when I was new to the server and I would feel sad to miss them. But I didn't go around crying that they always play together, that they don't invite me or that they don't turn me down the right way. What's wrong with just saying NO?? I would just go in an other squad or even start my own (I think I squad leaded more as a non-IHS member then since I joined an IHS). I would even be happy to face full 3rd squad and I would make squad just to have 6 people and try and find them to challenge them and become a better SL en SM and a better player. You do get better by playing with better people, but you'll get even better by challenging those same people. Playing against crappy player will make you dull in your skill. But playing against good player will push you to surpass yourself. I know it's just a game, but I want to be better and that's why I play on the TG server. Because the lvl of gameplay is high and because it's not just a walk in the park.
I can say for certain that topic like this one, will never change my way of doing thing because it make me more mad then compassionate for the people that whine about not having what they want. I know this is a mature community but there is nothing wrong with lock squad in regard to that. Maybe on the collective level lock squad are not the best, but so do IHS. I know at the Mth we play with different people all the time and we want to try new people cause we have a low population and we're always open for application. But sometime we just want to be together and enjoy our self.
Like Fubar said, if you can't get in the squad you want to be in, just find an other one or make your own don't come and pollute the forum like this is the end of the world and it's gonna bring down our community.
(It's not specially for you sluggo your not the only one in the past month to post things like this)

Re: Exclusive Squads?
I agree with what has been said, most notably HellHarry and Reaper. Interestingly, Reaper was diplomatic and nice but I'll be more specific. As much as "we" like playing with certain people there are also people "we" rather not play with and in some cases that might be "you" (no one specifically) [insert Admin edits here].
More specifically, by way of your example, Reaper is often a no nonsense SL and he doesn't like unnecessary "chatter" so if you're talkative and silly (Sluggo) - probably no invite for you. Having said that, I imagine you get many invites into squads where the SL very much likes your style of playing.
I didn't hear the declination so can't comment on whether it was rude or whether it was just the answer that was thought to be rude...
