Re: First time on TG
Very nice Fruv, et al. I suppose I'll give my testimony too. *Firmly grips pew in front of me.*
For most of my life I'd been a mocker of FPS games. I would particularly get on my brother's case about just "shooting people up." Then one day last year, on a whim, I told my brother to teach me to play this futuristic one. I have looked back, I'll admit, to BF2, but that didn't keep me coming back multiple times a week.
For about three months I was a random pub-hopper. One time I found myself in either a LEARNTG or XTREMETG squad of Oz's. That was the first time I found both leadership and obedience in a squad. It intrigued me. I kept hanging around and don't foresee leaving anytime soon.

Re: First time on TG
ok....here's mine.
I started playing BF2142 over a year ago. I found the demo of the game and played that for a couple of weeks until I finally went out and bought the full version. At that point, I did not have the latest patch so was stuck playing on two or three servers for probably 4-5 months (crazy, I know). Once I downloaded the latest patch and saw 150+ servers, there went curiosity to check things out.
Playing on pubbie servers was ALWAYS frustrated as I wanted to play as a team and rarely that happened. Somehow I found TG (divine intervention) and as the server was loading I saw the "rules" and said YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS! I don't think I went to bed that night and went home early just to play again.
I found the forums/website, signed up as a supporting member right away, downloaded TS and went out for another night of gaming. Setting up TS was interesting as I didn't know what I was doing, didn't know if it was working but found myself in the lobby pressing buttons and asking if anyone could here me. Once the green button came on, I heard a voice...Ya...I hear you. Do you need some help? What...someone going to help me figure this out? Draken was hanging out there for some reason and gave me a quick tutorial about TS and the TG community. The rest is history. I've been on the server for over a year and enjoying my reality breaks. TG FTW!

Re: First time on TG
i wish, don't have to use it anymore...
my start was a whole disaster. my english sucked, i had no idea about the game and didn't understand the most orders (especially from zohar). one day, in my whole over motivation, i wanted to squadlead and i did... it ended in a ban, because my squad was attacking the UCB and i had no idea what i could do. i gave the order to fall back (in my broken english) but they didn't. as always, i didn't read the text chat, so i ignore the text warning...
yeah, that was my start.
after this my brother (black_mirror) teached me a litle bit about tactic and SL'ing and about the gameplay. i had some rounds with the "E1st" guys, and it was a lot of fun.

Re: First time on TG
/offtopic mode on/ So your Mirrors brother! For a while, there was a lot of people asking if I was his brother (which confused me to no end since as far as I know I'm not related to anyone in here). Good to finally know who they where refering to
. /offtopic mode off
Had played bf2 a bit before I got bf2142 but I never got into 2142 since noone seemed to be using voip at all in 2142 while in bf2 they did. So I put it on the shelf for several months, was extremly bored oneday with nothing to do and pubsurfed for a bit. Was yelled at on one server for using voip (I was spotting enemies) and told to "be extremly silent you [censored] and if you want to use voip, go to tactical gamer instead and [censored] off". I, of course had no idea what that was, but looked it up and decided to give it a try.
Was the typical noob, didn't know anyone, understood even less but was lucky enough to get into a few of PM:s "Learn TG" squads. That and some squads with LogicalHarm was that got me hooked. Despite me most of the times in the beginning desperatly trying to even manage to keep up with them =). After getting a new computer I even managed to start shoot somewhat close to the direction of the enemy haha. When I count, there are only you and I together
But when I look ahead up the white road
There is always another one walking beside you

Re: First time on TG
First time: BF2, Sharqi. I swore that this would be the last server I tried before uninstalling the game out of frustration over the lack of teamwork, despite all the tools available to support it. I ended up in Whiskey's squad and since I was the FNG, I was assigned to the "bitch" job of Support.
While others might have balked at getting a crap primary weapon and ammo resupply duty, I loved it. I ran around passing out ammo to everyone who passed and learned the value of grenade spam, the only redeeming offensive capability of the BF2 Support. I had a terrible K/D, but I had fun operating in an ordered squad.
The old-school guys know the rest of the story.

Re: First time on TG
These are all excellent stories! I'm glad everyone has had such a great time in TG!
My start with tacticalgamer was my finding of the server in-game. I joined looking for some teamwork, and was awed by the leadership and use of voip in the TG server.
The very first time I joined the server I read the little note at the bottom right stating the rules/website and such, and, while still being an utter noob at the game (I had gotten it like three weeks prior), didn't understand any of the shortened words like UCB, and didn't know what "bunny hopping" was. But, in my excitement to play, I decided that I couldn't possibly do any of those right? Well the first time I played was nearly my last, as I was banned 10 minutes into a round by Eroak for Bunny hopping (or another offense... I think it was bunny hopping though).
Crap...
I liked that server! What was the name of the website?
Ah yes, there it is!
I log in, and contact an admin, and they were gracious enough to restore my rights on the server after I read the full rules of the server. YAY!!!! *logs back on to the TG server*
Like two days after that, I get banned again (by Eroak) for suicide RDX'ing HIS tank. lulz? (Unintentional suiciding... twice. Besiege knows all about that
Sigh...
Back to the contact an admin channel. Got the unban again. This is when I (took the |TG| tag off, which was put on wayy too early by me...) decided to wisen up and alter my "smurf" playing style to be more TG adequate. I stopped B-hopping, watched my rdx placement, and began to play more like a teammate than a no0b. Once I stopped getting kicked from the server for stupid things I re-added the tags and joined the online community.
If at first you don't succeed... Appeal to an admin.
Then appeal again.
Then grovel at Eroak's feet.
Then send him monetary funds for his...erm... new...car?
((Insert slightly witty, yet incredibly common-sensical quote here, to possibly ellicit a comment in one of thousands of posts on a rather popular web forum.))

I cant agree more with this thread, if not for TG there is no way I would be playing BF2142, I really cant stand to play on another server, so I am officially addicted :P

Re: First time on TG
First time on tg, I was kicked (not joining a squad is my guess in hindsight)) but I don't read in game stuff often so I am like "Dang, I suck too bad to be kicked for people thinking I am hacking and I haven't teamkilled anyone..."
And then I wandered on again another day, same thing happened. Then I wandered on another day and noticed the join a squad rule. Gads people are idiots, I hate joining squads, but oh well may as well. Hmm this is fun I am digging it, "You have been kicked for a supporting Member" (insert appropriate string of curses here). Liked it enough to risk sm kick. Finally got sm.
