XM-25 is US Military's PK-Rocket
watched a bit of this today and noticed they described the exact way that we use this rocket on 2142, surely we will gain an unmeasurably greater advantage over our enemies in afganistan now.

Re: XM-25 is US Military's PK-Rocket
They've been working on the XM-25 'for a couple of years'. Battlefield 2142 is out in stores for a couple of years.
Conclusion: Games are useful
I like it how things like these match with fiction. It's a signature...

Re: XM-25 is US Military's PK-Rocket
The XM29 Objective Individual Combat Weapon program is much more like the rifles of 2142. It combined a rifle with the airburst flat trajectory GL. They split the program because they just could not get the weight down to a reasonable level. So the XM25 was the mag fed airburst GL and the XM8 was the rifle. The XM8 was canceled, and I personally think you'll see the XM-25 canceled as well.
It weighs 14 pounds, which is just a bit more then a loaded M16/203. The fact is, unlike in 2142, a cement wall or shipping container can be shot through with any number of weapons. Medium or heavy machine gun fire, GL rounds, rounds from sniper or battle rifles, and any number of vehicle mounted weapons cut right through the kind of cover you shelter behind in game.
Fact is, the airbursting grenade is an answer in search of a question. It does nothing that cannot be done easily and more cheaply by any number of tested and proven weapons.

Re: XM-25 is US Military's PK-Rocket
Hell yes. Got a sniper? Not sure what window he's in? Bring up the M240. Not sure what floor he's on? Call in some armor. Not sure what building he's in? That's why we brought the JDAMs.
Some MG in the woods? It's displacing? We can't pin it down? That's why we brought plenty of artillery. No trees, no MGs.
There are no points in war for expending limited ammo. No infiltrator pins, no KDR. Accuracy stats are not tracked. Did you just use a 50,00 dollar missile to kill four guys with RPGs older then they are? If yes, then you are doing it right.
Call for air support, let the tanks deal with it, level the grid square with a time on target barrage. There are no points for second place, and there is no kill like overkill. Bounce the rubble.
During WWII, the German prisoners would often bitterly complain about how their fights with American infantry were always interrupted by P-47s or by Allied arty. They said that in the German army the infantry "solved its own problems", while the American infantry would just set up a base of fire and call for indirect fire.
During the Gulf War the USS Missouri used a Pioneer UAV to spot targets for her 16 inch guns. The Missouri moved off the gunline after a bit, and USS Wisconsin took over. As the Wisconsin's Pioneer flew over head, the Iraqi soldiers frantically began to wave bedsheets and handkerchiefs at it.
