Re: MG - 3 years birthday 2142-event: Sun. 17th October
After having got a good amount of free time for a while now I installed Battlefield 2142 and the 1.5 patch but unfortunately, as I expected, the game does not seem to agree with my Win7 OS. I could look for fixes but I'm way too much of a technophobe for all this modification of settings business. Guess I'll be waiting for 1.51 .
Re: MG - 3 years birthday 2142-event: Sun. 17th October
Thanks to MG for organising and for inviting us.
I got motivated (read: bored) tonight and decided to try and fix 2142 and it worked! Although it took a while and I didn't get on until 11:30pm when most guys were making their way out (only TG guys I got to play with/against was Big-eye, jazy and headq as far as I remember, unfortunately missed Silver and some of the Irregs that I saw were on earlier), and since this is a new PC I didn't have TS and for some reason my mic decided not to work for VoIP.
Still, it was great playing more than a year (or 2?) later and since I have a new PC, I didn't have a low framerate (After about 3 years of complaining) and although I still struggled at first it was still pretty fun. The last round I played not too long ago was especially heroic stuff...
(AAR type thing):
No other TGs and only two MGs (both on the other team) were on the server. Server pop was maybe 20 -24. Inf. only Camp G and we were attacking as PAC, and as expected, it was pretty hard to get out of the uncap when facing a decently organised defence, but after a very long grind our SL eventually found a way around and we hit Ruins -> EU base. They quickly took these back, but they were light on Harbour after they had cleared us out at the back, so we took it easily and pushed into Toll, which we also took after some further hectic fighting.
This was good progress, but unfortunately they had about a 150-ticket lead on us. But the team really pushed hard on Central Camp and hemmed then in, which allowed me to sneak around and take Ruins (waits for applause that never comes). The rest of the team then pushed out into Central camp and EU base which switched backwards and forwards, while the enemy took Toll back. After eventually capturing EU base conclusively I started to think it might be possible to cap the opposition out, but I looked at the tickets and they were in the mid-high 100s while we had just over 40. We tried to make our way back to central camp but they had taken it and their defence was too tight, at which point I decided to spawn back at harbour and try and take Toll from the North.
There was already a guy just to the North of Toll, who had either been in a skirmish around Toll and was just healing up, or was waiting for backup, but either way they seemed to be waiting for me to join up before we frantically took Toll, which was great, since I thought they now only had Central Camp. In fact the rest of our team had pushed in and taken Central Camp, and we had managed to cap them out when they had a ticket lead of just over 100 (I'm not exactly sure, but they had about 140-something and we had 32 tickets remaining). Pretty incredible turn around since they had pretty much slaughtered us at the beginning, establishing a massive ticket lead but just shows what a bit of determination, teamwork and inventive movement from an SL can do. I've forgotten just how damn fun this kinda gameplay can be (after playing way too much COD) and that was without comms, a full server, or any TG players.
Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
