willing seeders

I am interested in knowing who in the community is willing to seed regularly, because there is a trend for people to play at MG until the server has been seeded, which has allowed for the server to go unpopulated...

I know I have school and stuff, but I would like to know who is willing to seed the server on a regular basis...

I think headqd and Bert Haanstra are the only ones that I know that regularly try to seed...

I play mostly on MG, because i'm euro-time. But when i go to sleep i will try to seed the server again.

This is one of the main problems as far as I see it. The trend has seemed to be lately that more and more euro players migrate to other servers to get a few proper rounds in before they head for bed. This problems seems to haunt almost every title I'm familiar with on TG at the moment be it BF2142, BC2, PR or Arma. Lets say that the primetime US starts maybe around 6PM EST (I chose this time of day as it's the time I usually get my days work done [GMT+2] and am ready to play). This is equals with 11PM GMT, which is starting to be late if you go to school or work on regularish hours.

I did a lot of seeding work on the PR server almost the whole spring/summer and in the end the situation seemed to grow worse. At the beginning we would get the server seeded at 6PM GMT. Now it hardly seeds at 9PM GMT. This tiny window is the best gametime for me due to real life issues. The same issue was around on 2142 when I was more active. To get a game, and not some silly knifefight/pistolfight/gunship duels, going, I had to head to MG or some other teamwork oriented server. Luckily TG is not the only teamwork oriented communty (although in my opinion it's the best atm)... otherwise we'd be in trouble.

So where have all the euros gone? There was poll on the PR forum about the distribution of gamers around the globe. I think roughly 40% were from euro timezones. Of course this sort of poll never gives a 100% accurate depiction of player distribution, but it made me think. Why can't we seed our servers without the help of our US brethren (not to exclude you guys of course

)?

Maybe it is that all the games I mentioned are growing old or something, older people leaving and with them the initiative to play these games is going as well. Or maybe it's just fluctuation between newer and older titles as tHa_KhAn said on the Arma forum.

All in all my personal feeling is that the activity around TG has lessened somewhat from the time I joined. Or maybe time just goldens the memories or something. This is my personal opinion and feeling without any statistics to quote.

And no, I'm not trying to be a doomsday prophet or anything. I've just been thinking about this lately.

For me you are correct here in everything Hablos. Had the same thoughts myself.

I will try some PR when 0.95 is out, because my pc cant handle the new games (Hopefully BF3 makes me buy a new one

).

You guys are right sadly. Many of the classic TG games has lower population in general, so it's harder to seed and even harder when it's not prime time in the timezone the server is in. Sure if we could unite the active euros and seed it could maybe work, but still it will be hard. The BF2142 1.51 patch and PR 0.05 will make seeding easier and servers more busy that's for sure.

It looks like for some time in near future I won't be able to play 2142. But I will help seed the server.
SilentSunshine also helps to seed the server.

I would like to help your server getting seeded (me and grind have done it a couple of times in the past)
- but you guys need to switch to Camp G for seeding. I don't how many times I've seen your server with 4-8 people almost getting it seeded, only to get it empty 5 minutes later cause you are playing big Verdun or some other "unpopular" conquest map.

So..CAMP CAMP CAMP CAMP and just 3-4 TG seeders, and you will probally get your server going again.

There is no where to play late night, when your server is always dead, so please do some adjustments. I still see loads of active 2142 TG players in-game on our server or others.

Yeah, I try to hop on and seed somewhat regularly, especially if I see someone like Head is already there working on it.

With Camp G... Well, we've tried that. The results were far from spectacular. We'd occasionally get games going, but not often and not very big. Look down your lists for active servers. You see the armor maps like Suez and then... CAMP G! That's almost it. There are so many choices for Camp G, it can't really be that special if we get 5-10 people on our server running it. Maybe during Euro-play times it could work, I don't know. But, I know for U.S. times it didn't work too well this year.

Yeah, the most active US servers seems to be 24/7 Suez or Camp, not very fun to play on.

Anyway, hope you can get your server back active, would be awesome.

seeding means just being online on the server so that there are minimum # of players on the server and other people can play the game (as 2142 needs atleast 8 players to start game). You don't have to play during that time. Just start your game, join TG server, then press ALT+TAB and go back to your work. I do it all the time. If my TAG line reads as TG-Idle that means I am just seeding. This way people who join server know that I am just seeding the server and not active on the server. You can do something similar if you want...

Wow we got the server going on Monday evening and Euro time, how did that happen. Played two rounds and it was fun. I think Ill be seeding more often from now on. (even thou PR 0.95 is out )

I hop on when I can, but time is scarce, I smell seed ribbons for people , like head and sunshine and who ever is on to seed. I just got back into 2142 now that summer is over and will try to help. But lately the time I am available is early morning. Its not the game but the people you choose to play with. And even though my ping is like 180 on MG I gladly go there to get shot apposed to other random servers where I could wreck shop, just cause I rather get owned on a good server than own on a crappy 1. So ya I am all for getting are server up and going so I can dish it out as well
