Discussion: Battlefield 2142 / Battlefield 2142 - General Discussion - IDeas on rekindling 2142 - Guys, I would like to hear some suggestions on how we might rekindle 2142 here
I'm kinda in limbo with my living situation right now, and can't get on very often. I'll try to be on regularly in a couple of months. As for re-kindling, I'm suggesting a massive re-education effort for those who have been snared by games like bc2. They really want to play 2142, they just don't know it yet.
Playing as: |TG| Merkov
Now playing with the TG prefix because, according to oniell121, doing very stupid things with alarming frequency isn't a good enough reason not to wear them...
However, I'm not 100 % convinced that it will be a huge success before the patch hits. It might be worth a shot though - but my personal honest oppinion ... only the patch can bring a change that would be big enought, to revive the game for a longer periode than just a few nights a week. I think that there are quite a few people out there that are just waiting for it to finally be released. (speaking of final version here) But thats a wild guess too ...
Friday seems to be the best day to start - as it kinda developed into the main "2142 night".
Let me know if you need any help with anything and I'll see what I can do

I agree with big-eye. Personally, I don't play much else besides 2142, and I love the Fridays when I can get on. The last two Fridays were holidays though, so that also may have seen a downtick in players. I still check in on Tuesdays, too, but that night seems to have tailed off.
Also, don't forget, with Christmas just having passed, we may have temporarily lost some to newer, shinier titles that people got from Santa (Black Ops, etc).
waiting for the patch.......

I havnt been around long enough to see any trends but I think we might be seeing the end of days of 2142. When I started playing on TG (about 10 months ago) the server was almost always active and nearish to full. As time went on the server became less and less popular but would still be active. There was also a big drop in activity when school started up in the fall.
In order to get a "resurgence" I think we need more involvement from within to keep the server active and fun and but this I dont mean idle seeding. Being idle can destroy the game and can make thing very difficult when a few of them end up on one team with no way of removing them. The flip side of that is that few people are willing to actively sit on the server in order to seed. Now this could be just because I am now going to call the kettle black but there are a number of TG members that I havent seen online in quite some time. I have kind of developed a life now and can only play the odd night during the week and most fridays but I typically am not home on the weekends so I am not around as often as I like.
Regarding the patch...perhaps should we consider that the patch might not come for sometime? I have been hearing about it for almost a year and we have only just seen a beta that is a little sketchy. I am not in the loop so to speak but isnt BF3 on the horizon could this steal the development resources for our patch along with BC2? What are we going to do when BF3 is released (I am sure that it is still down the pipeline but I though beta testing was to begin soon)?
Possible Solution - Host more organized nights where we can atleast get 6ish members out so we can get the server going. Also go on TS even if not on the server. I will check this link and TS before I start the game and if I dont see any TG on I dont load the game.
I also think we need a new patch in order to rekindle the flame.
As to why people have dropped of I think there are multitude of reasons, personally I my life situation have changed, I now work 12 hours a day while studying full time. Not much time over for gaming I'm afraid (plan to come back to 2142 asap though).
When I count, there are only you and I together
But when I look ahead up the white road
There is always another one walking beside you
Gliding wrapt in a brown mantle, hooded
I do not know whether a man or a woman
- But who is that on the other side of you?
Tonight we had 15 or so players in TS playing on a public server, 3 or 4 of us joined the TG server and some public players joined as we were seeding, then TG people crossed over and we had about 20 players.
Probably just pot luck? but I think it is also a good idea, when we play on a public server maybe a couple of us could leave that server after a few games and seed the TG server while the rest keep playing, of course this would mean those that leave would have to wait around on the TG server for a while, but it may attract public players to the server when they see 3 or 4 people trying to seed it.
So if you do not mind waiting around while all your TG brothers and sisters are having fun on another server, seed the TG one and report in TS if any public players join.?
EDIT: I also think it is a good idea to report in the forums that you are seeding or had a great time on the server tonight with great teamwork etc. etc. and so on.......
If you leave the server for the night just throw in a post about how great it was before you sip on that hot chocolate or sit down for dinner, or ......
well Mojay - i sure had a great on Friday playing with you and so many TGers and pubs on our server! Despite the fact that I was on the losing side 5 straight times, I had a heck of a good time! Here's to Friday nights!

He does have a point, because if we were to really focus ourselves on rekindling the TG server, we shouldn't be focusing on DERF's server... sadly enough, I had not thought much about that...
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:
