Battlefield 2142 coming to an end at TG (in a blaze of glory!)

Hello all.

It's sad but inevitable news, something that many of us knew would come at some point. The Battlefield 2142 server here at TG is going to be shutdown at the end of this month. Why, you may ask? Well, the reasons are very straight forward including low activity and the cost of maintaining the server. This will make a great many people sad, I'm absolutely sure, but it is what it is.

Now wait, what does this have to do with going out in a blaze of glory?

Many of us have amazing, fond memories of countless hours and rounds on our server. Those memories make the state of the server now with it's low activity feel bittersweet. So... what do we do about that?

What we need is a singular event to send Battlefield 2142 off to retirement in TG on a positive, upbeat note. A blaze of glory so that everyone's last memory of the game here is a reminder of what this game brought to our community. Not just what it brought to the community, but a reminder to all the people who are here now... who came here because of this game.

I propose that we choose a particular evening between now and the end of the month and make it a dedicated 2142 day. This is a call to all 2142 players past and present, active and retired. Battlefield 2142 is going out, but let's send it out properly. Let's pull the people out of the woodwork and put personal feelings aside. Full server, full squads, commander, armor and infantry maps combined, gunship battles!

All in one night. And then the game can rest easy.

This is a call out to 2142 players out there. Former members of the 3rd and 101st, current members of the 9th, 21st, the 8th, the 70th, the E1st.

Sc1ence, Eroak, Zhohar, Reaper, Anospa, CapucinoBob, LordMeatwad, MDFubar, Experiment, Smachin, SgtKyle, Lyramion, Fyah, Grimfist, FronzenInferno, Aruncado, Arithea, Repaq, Jazy, Silver, BigEye, Mantis, Undead, LordKelvin, PM, DrBeat, BleedingKnee, soggywafle, Hellharry, Spiff, Deterhek, DaddyofThree, Housekeeper, Nepharyte, Abel, Fruvous, Groshak, FrozenCrome, Jengles, ONiell, ArmoredBear, RedBaron, Specterr, Zoticus, Rasta, Unload, Reader, Superfast, Chebrush... All the MG players.

These are people off the top of my head. Know someone who used to play? Give them a shout and tell them to check in for this event!

Check into this thread. Suggest a night, commit to being there, let's make this happen!

I will be there no matter what day it is on.

Maybe have it on a Friday would be best as "Friday love" was quite popular.

first game i played on TG and still playing. I will defenitely come back(eventhough I wasnt rly gone). I was looking for the server a couple of days ago to seed but couldnt find it.

It looks like the major lag issue we had last year really did kill 2142 and everyone went over to that game I will not mention(bad company 2).

Lame I love 2142 and its action and I still wish that we could go back to before that lag hit.

Four years next month, for me, Beat. I'll have to get TS working with 2142 before this happens; it's still causing all VoIP games to freeze up for me mid-round.

I'd love to be here to see 2142 out the door! Might even be able to convince a certain, ahem, dangerous fruit to be there...

Edit: ...or I'll steal his PC, since it plays nicely with TS and VoIP. He'll probably be working and unable to attend. Either way, I'll do my best to be there!

i expected, that this day would come. is was a pleasure to play on this server and it was this community, which made this game one of the best games for so long.

I started playing at TG back in summer of 2007...dear god I was still in high school back then. Made some really good memories here. I will be there depending on the day.
