Missing a game and it's community.

Hiya people,

Been a while since I've shown my face here. Probably somewhere in 2009 to be exact (perhaps a bit in Q1 2010). Used to be a 101st member before real life kicked in and I went completely silent. Not sure anyone remembers at all! However, whatever happened back then, and whatever games I've played since... watching some of the squad's and other TG members BF2142 vids on YouTube and Noobflicks again today almost made me cry. I'm really missing that great feeling of what TG is and how the community makes the game...

Hence I decided that I want to come back and do some proper gaming in the one-and-only proper community out there.

So, please! Tell me. Who's still around? Does TG still have nice and active BF2142 servers? How's everyone? I want to know pretty much everything really. Missed this stuff. Missed you, TG.

There's no TG BF2142 server any more. Since you stopped playing in 2009 you probably don't know that 1.51 patch was released. It made Northern Strike free, added 4 other maps, fixed some bugs. In my opinion those new maps were rather bad. After this nothing positive was happening, less and less soldiers were fighting on the battlefield (however there are still some).

It's bad time for BF2142 comeback as BF3 will be starting soon.

BTW, maybe you don't know, 101st was dissolved.

I remember you! Hi again! As inrobert said, the 101st was disbanded and the 2142 server was closed down. Lots moved on to BC2, and are about to move from that to BF3. Hope to see you in BF3 too!

Some of us still play 2142 but most have moved on. You left TG before I joined but Ive been a member of 101st too. We dispanded our unit and some of us have moved on and some are still here. BF3 beta came out today for preorderers somany will be playing that. Another released game is Red Orchestra 2. For more tactical game you could look into Project Reality and Arma or those to combined PR:Arma.

Great to see you back garazaki.
Some of us do stil play this game, but not as much as we would liked to. It's mostly DEFR server.
If we do play, it will most likely be on a friday or saturday evening.
You should get in contact with PM.., Hablos or Finarsi. They might give you some advise with this.

You also might change a line in your signature.

It hurts me to see a great game like this bleed out. I would give a lot for a nice and active TG BF2142 server, but alas. It is a joy to see so many 'old' names though! Glad most of you found a place in other tactical shooters. @Bert: Yeah we're probably not recruiting anymore hehe. Felt like not adjusting any of it for old times sake

But I will! And Flik in GW? Doh. What has the world come to...

Yo dude.. You've got us all in your friends list. Get on Steam too and ping messages to those online. I'm rarely in game, but if I got such message would probably jump in at every chance.. DEFR server is still going which is nice!

So, I'm a bit of a moron, but what is Steam? Can you really be notified when people are in-game when you aren't? That sounds awesome...

Steam. Run by Valve Software (who made Half Life, Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and many others). It's a digital distribution and social platform - essentially, it's what EA's Origin wants to be. You can buy and download games through it, and you can add friends, create groups, schedule events, and so on.
Notification-wise, if I were to add you as a friend, and then I were to play TF2, you'd see "westyfield is playing TF2" in your friends list, and you could click on my name to send me instant messages (which you can send/receive from inside games), see info on the server I'm on, and join that server. It's really useful. BF2142 isn't integrated into Steam, so you can't join servers from people's profiles, but if they've added 2142 as a 'non-Steam game', it'll still show on their profile if they're playing it, and you can still IM each other.
Unless you have something against digital distribution or Valve, there's no good reason to not be on Steam (especially as you get a free copy of TF2!).
