Re: Battlefield 2142

In bf2142

the commander kan kill the whole map with a bomb the size of a pea (antimatter) if he feels he might lose....

I doubt future combat will have much heroics nor fun in it.

In bf2 they already had to make the combat more uplcose by reducing accuracy etc compared to real life. So in the future combat will be mainly looking on screens to send rockets or lasers or whatever. Knifekills....nevermore.

*edit* Unless they have guys with some sort of lasersword that can magically avoid the futuristic weapons with extreme accuracy.. but then I believe I once heard of such a game that's already out there.

if they keep the realistic aspect to it, ill probly get it. whats the projected release date? like a year and a half, two?
2142 does not equal Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. From what you can see in the leaked video it still has ballistic weapons and that's how I think it will mostly be. There are tons of possibilities for futuristic ballistic weapons and different types of crazy ammo you could invent. It's not all phasers and energy cores.

Don't forget Epic's UT2007.

Agree. Think more along the lines of Aliens or Starship Troopers.

Re: Battlefield 2142

I'm very much against the idea of putting in mech combat. I think they should leave that to the MechWarrior series (which needs to be revived, by the way).

Re: Battlefield 2142

A mech is just a more mobile tank. You could actually see the rounds it fired, whereas tank rounds in BF2 actually move FASTER. Those ships flying overhead are just choppers. And there was still a grunt running on the ground.

I think it'll be more of a "skin" on BF2 - as much as we rag on the performance and balance issues of BF2, Dice seems to make a pretty fun product. I think it'll be okay.

Unless, of course, EA is pulling the strings. Then all the best guys will be laid off (or already have been, since EA likes to lay off when product is released), and the thing will be hopelessly broken

Probably more like 3 or 4. They'd want to suck BF2 for all it's worth.

Re: Battlefield 2142

Anyone play Starsiege: Tribes? That was a very awesome futuristic team based tactical shooter without aliens or anyt weird technology that ruined things. BF2142 could easily be done right.

keep in mind that as offensive technology improves, so does defensive.... our modern soldiers have tons more protection than civil war grunts did.

that said, if anyone ever combined mechwarrior with bf2 (and did it well) i would have thier baby.

Re: Battlefield 2142

I bought Tribes 2 and could never get into it. I switched to Planetside beta instead, at the time

One of the biggest things I wanted to add to the MechWarrior games was a CO for the online battles. If the developers basically did a lance setup and CO option like they do squads and such in BF2, it would be great. I do not, however, want EA to have anything to do with the next MechWarrior game, if there is one. I also don't want them incorporating mech combat into any of their games. Heh, yay for series loyalty.

Re: Battlefield 2142

I wouldn't like mech warriors the size of buildings in a BF2-type game, but small personnel mech suits could be interesting (like the mech suits on Planetside..not the mech warrior they later added..ugh!).
