The ability to play 64 players with giant mechs...That is pretty much liquid gold to me.

Az - Who owns all the mech/battletech games, even earthsiege.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Trailer

Intresting, there is a big probability that it is just a mod.. I had really hoped that they added more tactical options for both the grunts and the squad leaders and commanders.

Quake Wars - looks more intresting....

But to early to tell on this one. I have fait in the swedish developers though. I am a swede myself....

Re: Battlefield 2142 Trailer

Well first off, it's slated for Fall 2006, and there's been no official announcement? Sounds like a mod or a hoax to me. For BF2, the first preview was done a year ahead of time, and I'm of the firm belief that EA does what ever it can to hype its big games as soon as possible. Aside from all that, the beginning of the video (where the logos show up) doesn't feel right; almost as if someone put a camcorder in front of a computer monitor. And as someone else said, the voice acting (we've never seen a narrator in a BF game) is absolutely terrible.

The last time this topic came up, I said the same thing: if it's not MechWarrior/Battletech, I don't want it to have mechs. From the trailer, it looks like there's only one or two mech variations, and I'm sure that they wouldn't be customizable- probably just the replacement for tanks. I've got a feeling that this game would be a race for the mechs, and the infantry play a minimal role (mostly getting slaughtered). As much as I like BF2, if this game or mod is real, I'm not particularly looking forward to it.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Trailer

The trailer comes from PC Gamer magazine and the game is the cover story of the May issue. It's real. It is based on the BF2 engine, like BF:V was based on the BF42 engine. The other thread Trooper linked has more details.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Trailer

I'm trying to figure out why everyone is freaked out about the mechs. They appear the be just a replacement for tanks. There's no reason to believe that they will own the battlefield any more (or less) than BF2's armor does.

To me it appears to be a similar game, but with new weapons and scenery. Why is that so bad? We've all complained about how we need some new maps 'round here. And hey, maybe this time they'll have a shoulder-mounted stinger?

Let's wait and see if it's good before slaughtering it.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Trailer

I kind of think the back story is cool. It actually gives a reason for the game. I completely agree with bommando. This game has an amzing engine and backbone for many possibilites for games to come. Those mechs look awesome, could you imagine fighting against those in an urban map, would be awesome.

I think EA is gonna suck everything they can get out of this engine, just like UT2k? does. We will probably see more about this in the next coming months

Yea, I think the backstory is cool, I read that post about the details on the game, some of you should read it if you haven't in the other thread about this.

The commander should get an EMP bomb... that would rock! thing is, then the soldiers would be like paralyzed too cuz of their armour.

I agree i do like there being a reason for the fighting, ill wait to see more information/trailers before i decide...from what i've seen it didn't make me want it one bit.

I also dont have a liking for futuristic types of games.

Personally, I don't really like seeing mechs outside of the MechWarrior/BattleTech genre (there are a few exceptions, but not many). I'm sure that the 'mechs are just a replacement for tanks, and that rather annoys me. The whole basis of mech combat is different, customized mechs (even those of the same type could have different weapon loadouts) duking it out amongst each other. I'm willing to bet that the machines in this game are neither widely varied nor customizable.

Well said. BF2 will be my game of choice for MANY years which isn't something that can be said by anygame other than GR and BF42. BFV wasn't a meaty expansion, but was still fun (love the music) and I think this new expansion looks like a nice change of pace.

I also think the teamwork tools are revolutionary for FPS games (yes AA had them first technically but not on a 64p scale) and ALL future games need to include a similar setup. I like bf2 as much as anything just for the simple squad mechanics and any "skin" that lets me play a different game type with those tools I will enjoy. I still can't wait for FH2 and POE2, as well as some star wars, battlestar galactica mods on the horizon. BF2 is just in its infancy of my gaming cycle.

I loved the mechwarrior games, but like you said mostly for the customizability aspects. Thats highly unlikely in this bf2 expansioin, but just like bf:v I will probably pick it up as a fun diversion.

Re: Battlefield 2142 Trailer

I've already decided to buy it !
I agree with Bommando that BF2 (even with some bugs) is by far the best multi-player game
I agree that 2142 looks like a mod.
I expect it will have the same engine and the same command structure etc
I also expect that the everything's just gone future looking ie tanks=mechs , helis=UFO things, jeeps= er jeeps , medics=medics, etc
I dont think the fundamental formulae would be changed at all.

What I would like is if they thought laterally and used the sci fi element imaginately
eg infantry have energy sheilds that can be recharged at power points, or everybodies got engineer skill and can repair eachother body armour, or more down the route of powerups, for invisibility or jetpacks. I would like it if there was a lot more flexibility in the soldier class mentality. However I'm dreaming, I expect rigid classes like in BF2.

Even so, half a year and I'm on TG 2142 ser 1 --- zapping everybody

Edit: afterthought, it would be great if the game had a autosquad feature, so that if you didnt join a sqaud in 60 secvs, out are randomly assigned to a squad
