Re: E3 Battlefield 2142 20 min video!!!

Awesome video man.

Good Stuff:

It's funny, but it's almost more realistic in some ways. Now instead of spawning out of thin air, you take a drop pod from the sky down to your squad leader. It makes more sense.

Graphics look very nice.

Titan mode looks like it will be fun; the commander is certainly going to enjoy his gigantic ship that he gets to drive around.

Infantry combat looks pretty good, especially with stuff like those drones and kit customization and stuff.

That APC that launches those pods? Freaking awesome.

Bad Stuff:

Hopefully unranked servers will just let you unlock all the kit customization options. Otherwise it would just be dumb; you'd barely get anything compared to playing on a ranked server.

Uh... there is probably some other stuff I should be criticising. I just can't think of it. The only real downside, apart from that unlock crap, would be splitting the community. We saw with Battlefield: Vietnam, which was a worse game, that people who bought it basically just went back to 1942. What if people buy BF2142 and it's about as good as BF2, or most people think it's better but some don't? Will the community split or something?

I think it's not worth it to worry about that stuff, though. What happens, happens, and we can't change it either way.

Re: E3 Battlefield 2142 20 min video!!!

well this is not an expansion, its a whole new game. So hopefully people will take the next logical step and move on to this. I mean im sure there are plenty of people burnt out on BF2 that wouldnt mind a new game simliar to it. Then again, we always have a good number of people playing BF2 every night so they mustve done something right with it. However, this game just looks like crap loads more fun than BF2. And i totally enjoyed BF2.

Re: E3 Battlefield 2142 20 min video!!!

Well, BF:V was a whole new game too and people basically abandoned it. Of course, BF:V wasn't very good, so maybe if BF2142 is as good as it looks we won't have this problem.

And I agree; it looks even better than BF2. I'm ujst not sure if I want to spend another 50 bucks on it, no matter how good it is, if half the people stick with BF2 and don't buy it at all.

Maybe the demo will make everyone want to buy it. Can't wait

I forgot about a demo. How long was the demo available for bf2 before the retail game came out, I don't quite remember.

Re: E3 Battlefield 2142 20 min video!!!

well, even if people dont support it like bf2, im still getting it and enduring the pubbies cuz it just looks hella fun. I just hope it is as good as it looks and people come around.

And be aware, this is DEFINATELY an ARCADE game. Realism, this game is not. Its meant as a team based, fun to play arcade game. If youre not into that, then dont get, simple as that.

Side note - i cant wait to launch myself out of pods

Demo came out June 11, 2005, and the game was released June 21, 2005.

I wouldn't say it is an arcade game.. It looks to have about as much realism as BF2 does, just that the game developers have guessed at what things will be like 140 years in the future. Two "modern" armies fighting it out.

The demo couldn't have been out for more then a week or two.

Edit:

So are we still going to be seeing people do the high jump from a prone start?

I think it's likely. If you watch the trailer you see people dolphin-dive off the Titan as it explodes

Don't worry though. None of that crap will happen at TG (I hope).

The dolphin diving and stuff wouldn't be so bad but the animation doesn't follow the hit boxes, I hope they at least fixed that. I wont hold my breath over it though.

I remember when they were doing the stage show demo, and I asked if the red tag bug was fixed, of course my question didn't get answered on the air or at all.

Good point perry. I was just sayin that for people that try to talk like BF2 was supposed to be this hardcore tactical shooter when it clearly isnt. Its merely a balance between realism and gameplay. They obviously had to make some sacrifices in realism for the greater good which is BF2. Why are there so many people playing the battlefield series? Because its got great gameplay. And just enough realism to make it belivable. Im sure 2142 is going to follow suit.

"Well, you see, in the future, sometimes soldiers have AI chips implanted into their brains. You see, these chips, eventually, they will make the soldier defect, and shoot their own teammates. The problem is, the soldier doesn't know they've got these chips, right? But the trick is, if you tell them they have the chip, it will activate and they'll go psycho and try to kill you. But your HUD, see, it can tell if they have the chip. If it detects the chip, it will mark them as an enemy. So you have to kill them before they turn on you! It's not a bug. It's a feature."

Re: E3 Battlefield 2142 20 min video!!!

Release date is Fall 2006.. I speculate that it will be released near the end of November. So, we've got about 6 months to go.

Re: E3 Battlefield 2142 20 min video!!!

I wasn't sure how I felt about this game, whether it's unique and different enough from BF2 to warrant purchase, but after watching that 21-minute video from Planet BF, I am quite excited about it. I prefer conventional weapons, but BF2142 seems plausible enough, and I can see how teamplay will be quite fun on Titan Mode. All in all, i'm looking forward to this. At TG
