Re: Important Info On The Beta!
This is posted on the front page of totalbf2142.com
Although a number of opinions have already been formed about the Battlefield 2142 beta, I've been sent a message from Colin Clarke that may change some of those. Here's what he had to say:
EA & DICE will be distributing codes through our regional managers that will allow players direct and free access to the Tuning Beta. We have contacted many groups already to bring them into the Tuning Beta and will be opening the doors wider to allow for a great experience. Players should keep their eyes on the official EA Battlefield news spaces and their local forums for more information on EA & DICE VIP key distribution.
It's great to hear this for all those that had their concerns. So sit tight and stay tuned for more news as it comes.

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
Do you hate it when TG gives supporting members first shot at connecting to a game server? Or when TG gives FAST downloads to supporting members? Or when TG only lets supporting members play on our private SWAT4 server?

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
They've got to have a way to pay for the services they provide. It costs a LOT of money to host all of those files and to let people download them for free. Offering faster speeds and some exclusive content to paying members is their business model. And it works. And it allows them to keep hosting files for free for everyone. It's quite similar to TG in that regard.

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
I think it is a bit different than TG. If you want to host the file fine host it and don't offer it for free with restricted DL speeds. Now if TG offered larger Banwidth to SM then yes I would have issues with it but what Fileplanet offers I think it is a rip off. I shouldn't have to pay more money to use my high speed internet to DL files. I'm sorry that is just the way I feel

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
What you really need is your ISP to host local downloads for these files. If the larger broadband ISPs provided sites like FilePlanet they would not only make their customers happy, but would save themselves on expensive transit bandwidth.

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
I agree here. Even though I do have a FilePlanet subscription, I get quite annoyed at developers and publishers that put together special deals and releases for FilePlanet vs. the general public. This isn't a gripe to be held against FilePlanet, but the developers and publishers that choose to release content exclusively through their systems.

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
But you've always got a choice to use FilePlanet or some other service. The only cases where you don't have this choice is when the developer and/or publisher ONLY release the file to FilePlanet. Don't be mad at FP, be mad at EA for choosing to release their file in this manner rather than allowing a public release that gives you that wide variety of options for fast downloads.

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
We have not. But I will make efforts to contact EA regarding this and see what we can do about getting some keys. We were able to do this with Red Orchestra and it was quite a bit of fun running those mini-contests to win the keys, I would love to do something like this with BF2142.

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
I am personaly not offended by a deal between FP & EA.
I see two big names aligning themselves with eachother as quite natural in the competitive marketplace.
If beta is only available thru FP then I will subscibe to FP to get it, it is worth the money to me.

Re: Important Info On The Beta!
A ton of betas are semi-exclusive to FP. It's a good source of testers for any company.
