No, Your EA Account is just a login account in 2142, you'll never see that name in game, because you login to you EA account, then you come to the next screen, which is where your reserved name comes into play. You create a soldier with your reserved name. It probably retrieves the info, and gets you, your promotion and etc.

As far as I can tell, it's like this:

You have a Gamespy account that's registered with an email address. With that account, you get one "Gamespy nickname" and one "BF2 Name".

    For example, I have
    Gamespy Nick: WhiskeySixTG
    Account Email: -----@yahoo.com
    BF2 Name: |TG-12th|WhiskeySix
    Password: --------
    and then a second account:
    Gamespy Nick: whiskeysix
    Account Email: ------@gmail.com
    BF2 Name: WhiskeySix
    Password: --------

now then... all you need to know is your email address(es), and you can find the other three things:

    1) reset your password using your email address:
    https://login.gamespyid.com/lostpassword.aspx

    2) Login to IGN/gamespy using that email address and new password:
    https://login.gamespyid.com/login.as...index.aspx&sl=
This will tell you your Gamespy Nickname.

    3) In BF2, under Manage Accounts->Retreive Account enter the email and password (from step 1). This will give you your BF2 name

soooo - in the veteran registration page, you must be sure to not mix things up. For example, I first tried using Gamespy Nick:WhiskeySixTG, and BF2 name WhiskeySix.... that didn't work, because as you can see above, they're from separate accounts.

Pretty painless for me just now. EA downloader account then "perry" is a BF2 account with 0 points, and I was able to reserve "perry" for BF2142. So, I'll just use the clan tags thing and

All in as TG-33rdBigBill I had to modify my BF2 name slightly due to the 14 character limit, but hey this is close enough so there will be no doubt who dies when the artillery falls !! LOL

This thing is so retarded...I entered everything correctly. I put my in game soldier name - |TG-33rd|Snail and it says BF2 player name taken. WTF? Then i tried just Snail and it came back with an invalid password and i use the same password for everything. Ugh.

Had the same problem when I made my new 33rd name. Took me 5 days and about 150 tries !!

It can be a real PIA !

    Keep trying Snail.

That means the BF2 name "|TG-33rd|Snail" is under a different email/Gamespy name... if you know a few different email addresses you might have used to register, try what i did above...

nope i verified it. My EA member name is Snail788. My BF player ID (the player i use so i can use booster backs and such) is |TG-33rd|Snail on that member name, so thats my BF2 player name right? Theyre linked to each other...i dont get it.

hm. well... it should work if that's the case - are you SURE that bf2 name and that Gamespy name go together? how did you verify - go in BF2 and "retrieve account"?

I'm totally lost! Please, WhiskeySix Kenobi, you're my only hope.

So, I followed your meticulous steps:
    1. Using the link provided, I reset my password
    2. Using the new password, I logged into my GameSpy account and got my GameSpy Nickname: Diceman
    3. I then used the Manage Accounts->Retreive Account function inside BF2, and entered the same e-mail and password. My BF2 account name is Diceman_01.
    4. My EA Downloader account is Diceman0001.
    5. I entered my EA Downloader account (Diceman0001) in the "EA Member Name" field.
    6. I entered my EA Downloader password in the "EA Password" field
    7. I entered my BF2 account (Diceman_01) in the "Battlefield 2 Soldier Name" field
    8. I entered my BF2 account password in the "Battlefield 2 Password" field
    9. Finally, I asked to reserve "Diceman" in the "Name choice for Battlefield 2142" field.

The final result? "BF2 Soldier Name already used by another player"

    *frustrating*

    Let's see..

I don't remember my EA login. I have no idea what email I used. I know my Bf2 soldier name, but not the PW for it.

    I have a downloader login..

    I am so confused!

I think the best thing to do is just sign up normally when you get the game.
